Overlooking Grundy if he's still available would almost be like Buddy all over again IMO. The only differences being whoever we take instead will be a lot better than Tambling and there'd be more teams who overlooked him before us as well, which would at least balance out the lack of "there were genuine concerns about his character" excuse some trot out in regards the 2004 decision.

I mean I think Richmond's backs are settled in Rance, Grimes, Griffiths and Chaplin, forwards seem set in Riewoldt, Vickery, Elton and Astbury, and Grundy learns of Maric.

For mine there is little point in reaching for a ruckman in the draft itself as I don't think we desperately need one. Maric Vickery and Derickx should be able to see us through as mature bodied rucks. If we are going to take one then perhaps take a rookie kid with lots of raw talent that we can tuck away at Coburg for a couple of years and see if they come on. If not then we can always go down the free agents path in years to come and recruit one to replace Maric once he moves on.

Forward line is an absolute mess. We don't know which small midfielders too play, we don't have a legit power forward, only Jack.

Grundy could be played as a power forward, he's an animal.

Wait a second, small midfield depth is bad? Do you mean small forward? Clearly Richmond should be playing Shaun Edwards, Nahas, Martin and Nahas. A Edwards maybe off the bench. I think Vickery can easily play second tall, he's a lot better than a few clubs' 2nd tall.

+1. I've advocated us taking Vlastuin throughout this entire thread, but Grundy is a completely different level. To be honest, I've had him at 1 at various stages of the year and I still wouldn't know who I would take out of him and Whitfield if I had the choice. Having watched Vickery, Naitanui and Longer, I can confidently say that without a doubt, Grundy was a better junior than all of them.

Although I don't agree with you in regards to Grundy being a better junior than Vickery , I do think Krueser was a better junior than all of them . The job of a recruiter isn't solely to judge upon who is the better junior but more so rate players upon there potential to become a AFL footballer .
That is the reason you might find is why some may question Grundy's , worth more so than others . Many have a varying opinion as to his potential at AFL level .

I rate him just as highly, if not moreso at the same level. Grundy is just as unique due to his Basketball background.

Rendell's comments are spot on. Why would you say they are exaggerated? He is ready to go, he is 100kg, very advanced in his ruckwork and his improvement in 2012 as a forward is amazing. No reason he can't be ready to go. Comments in my opinion are fair.

You would be one silly recruiter to turn this guy down at Pick 9.

This is probably the reason why he is unlikely to last to us. If he is as good as many are saying then even those with ruck stocks being ok will seriously consider him as guys like this do not turn up every day. I do recall FJ saying in an interview that they start to look at kids from around 16 yrs till they become available at 18 or TAC. That may be a reason why some may or may not draft him as I have no real knowledge of whats coming up in the next couple of yrs draft wise. Does sound like a real goer though from all the things being said on BF alone.

If they think Grundy is a mistake at 9 for us, that's fine, it's an opinion, but I sure hope that person isn't employed by the RFC.

Lets see. How many times does a elite ruck/forward come past? Then you ask, how many times does a midfielder come across. Those wanting Vlastuin before Grundy. Wow. Mayes, Macrae, Garner? Really, in front of Grundy? I don't understand but fair enough.

We have loads of small forwards by none of them have really convinced me they will play in our next premiership.

Our forward talls are worrying. I don't know whether Astbury will make it. Vickery needs to become a power forward, at the moment he's a gumby type forward. Elton looks like a high flyer upgrade on McGuane, a Crameri type, whilst Astbury could be everything but the reality is that he's nothing atm.

Look if Grundy is available at 9, I would be doing cartwheels and that's some effort at my age and weight . but I just can't see it happening because he is an out & out gun and I would be amazed if those clubs with picks in front of us don't take him . You have clubs chasing Tippett at an exorbitant price . Grundy in a few years time will make Tippett look like a bush leaguer !!!!

I respect that, it was a rhetorical question so to speak. I wouldn't ask you to disclose that information at all, I know of the confidentiality it all comes with.

I think what I think, I am not having a go at your thoughts, just interested on those thoughts of recruiters you know. I am trying to work out what they are seeing that I am not. Then again, I think back to past drafts and in every draft there are selections I went "what they hell are they thinking" so it is very plausible.

My information two weeks ago was that Richmond had information that he may be available and they had watched him extensively and rated him highly. Who knows except for our recruiting team.

To me, like Martin_Riewoldt at stages this year he has been number one on the board. The more I see of him, the more I want to place him there again. Two weeks till the draft, I have lined up extensive tape watching. My final mock draft I may post here will be the day before I fly to the Gold Coast for the draft.

Teams will let him slide for a whole range of reasons. Extensive list management, some may think they want a ready to go midfielder to help them up the ladder because of pressure of performance, some may rate their ruckman and say there is no point in getting another, where some may seriously rate others in front of him. If they all combine, we could get lucky. We will start to hear more from the end of this week on, as clubs finalise interviews, make promises, talk to the family about what the club will have in store for their kid etc etc. Basically, other recruiters will be able to know what others are doing before the Thursday of the draft in the top 10. Most of the time.

If I hear anything at all, I will pass it on.

Absolutley spot on. Guessing with most threads on bigfooty could be broken down to two to three main points. Draft can not come quick enough. Or the test match for that matter. Something to watch.

I have been a fan for a while. Definite talent, hard running midfielder with very good skills, good character, leadership. Doesn't make mistakes, very composed and clean.

Would be very happy with him at our second round picks.

True! I know very little about him, seen a highlights package and read a short bio, that's all. Sound a likely type though. Was thinking more 43 than 32 but I know nothing! I guess with Brisbane picking between 32 and 34 we'd have to take him at 32 if available
