Been stated nearly every post on Vlastuin and in particular by RT that he has been injured this year.

But that was at the start of the year where he was moved to the HB line, surely that cant be the reason for being below full fitness at the combine ?

Why was he below full fitness ? These kids run Beep tests 2-3 times a year what was his usual test ranking
also what was his 20mtr times , I have tried to find them but not much luck

His standing verticle leap is 70cm which isnt too bad but his pace and endurance is what worries me most, Plus his kicking is just average needs a bit of work.

Sam Mitchell isn't fast and his kicking isn't that great yet if we had the chance we'd sign him tomorrow.

Again, he does not have average disposal. I have watched him very closely for the past year and I assure you his kicking is in the very good category for both feet. With his elite work rate and ethic, endurance won't be a problem. He will struggle early, but all AFL players do. Endurance is something which can be severely improved.

So yes, a player who wills himself through the contest, who thrives in tough situation, has excellent stoppage skills, elite work ethic, no regards for his safety when he attacks the ball, very good skills and the constant mindset of "I will get the ball, no matter what it takes," I could see becoming elite.

Pace isn't an issue either as he is more or less at the bottom of the packs. Swallow/Hayes/Thompson all aren't quick players, all are elite for their position.

If you were starting a team from scratch, would you first select a player who could get his own ball or who couldn't?It's simple really.

Vlastuins kicking is good. Not elite. Won't be an issue but won't be a weapon.

He is a good kid. We will be proud to have him if we select him. Which isn't as sure as it seems.

No offence UTG and none to Quigley who always does a great analysis of the draftees with more detail than anyone else but most of his viewing comes from the Champs each year. Where as FJ watches every game for 3 years. I know whose opinion I'll be backing on draft day.

In 6 YRS we could have the best dam midfield & then poach a ruckman. Look at it this way, u can use a pick, a spot on your list & the next 4 yrs on the list developing that ruck or do you use that same list position to churn & burn through another 5/6 players looking to beef up midfield/defence etc. During that 6 yrs you mention we may pick up the next Cox/Sandilands (as rookie mid you). In 6 yrs the whole role of the ruckman may be entirely diff to what it is today. For mine you play the percentages. Unless you're desperate for a ruckman I would draft the best available (usually mids) & build the team to the best competitive beast u can & then look at filling specialist positions such as a ruck when it is time

Simply don't agree with this philosophy in these circumstances. Firstly, you can get the same midfield or even better getting Grundy and concentrating on mids and forwards predominantly for the next 4 years or whatever via draft or FA. If you wait till 5-6 years then I believe it unlikely you will get someone of Grundy' s ilk and form at that stage. Who ever is available of that quallity will be too expensive even if available on the market and you mature midfield will be busting your salary cap . On the other hand, the odds are high you will get other mid opportunities at least as good if not better than Vlastuin in the next 5 years surely. Unless Vlastuin is exceptional, the percentage is to get Grundy and then chase mids and forwards mainly etc... Most comentators do not seem to refer to Vlas as exceptional even at say a Bartel level so , for me , you have to go Grundy. Getting a Cox/Sandy via rookie is unlikely and you wouldn't bank on it or waste your time if you didn't have to, except for the odd low cost project

Not necessarily you get best available IMO. Isn't it a gamble to suggest the player who gets the ball first in the first year will be your best player in that period over say 5 years for that position? All things being equal that is a 1 in 5 shot. What if the guy that gets the ball first in 3 years time or via FA is significantly better than the first ball player available in the first year?

If you get the best available ever year there is a good change your team is the best available. If there are imbalances later adjust and trade accordingly. Isn't that obvious??? Eg get Grundy and hypothetically get your best first ball player in the 3rd team you end up with a better team hypothetically

Was told yesterday that our interest is in three players and we were undecided. I'd imagine Vlastuin to be one, but as I said, the guy that told me said what was reported in the media wasn't totally accurate. We haven't decided yet.

If I had to take a guess I would say Garner is another and a tall the other. Rumours of Corr gathering momentum.

If I had to take a guess I would say Garner is another and a tall the other. Rumours of Corr gathering momentum.

It was mentioned to me he had been interviewed three times a couple of weeks ago. Would suggest we have interest.

Corr is an interesting prospect. I like him, but don't see the point as we have a few in that position of KD/KF swing. There was talk around he could make a really big midfielder type.

I just don't see it for us.

Yep I'd say unless Grundy is there we are going a midfielder. 5 days to go. Can't come soon enough

I am hoping it is Macrae, Mayes and Grundy as well as possibly Plowman depending on who slids.

Vlastuin and others would be in contention but at 9 whatever they decide I hope they are chasing the quality potential option first round barring your Stringers and other suspects.

Did anyone notice Emma didn't list Vickery as a ruckman?? If that is the reflection of a forming consensus it is a worry!

Sounds like a description of Cotchin M_R and we could certainly do much worse than getting another one in that mould. If that was to eventuate would anyone be unhappy ?

If this is true then then I have real doubts that our recruiting team has the ability to deliver the players necessary for us to win our 11th premiership. Indeed If they picked a Corr at 9 (a good pick at say 32) then the first thing the club should do is terminate the recruiting teams contracts and pay whatever they have to to get someone like Steve Wells from Geelong. I have real concerns about this. To much vanilla, to much lets just get the solid player and take no chance attitude. There doesnt seem to be any risk reward analysis if we continue to select this type of player. Having said all that Vlastuin isnt as bad as some are saying but if players like Grundy or Mayes are on the board and they dont get picked then its a disgrace.

Who rated him top two?

Knightmare had him at 2 at the beginning of the year in his mock draft. Not trying to claim him as a top 2 prospect just saying if he was still listed as no.2 in the mock draft instead of 15-20 people would be going crazy where as he is still the same player. Chris has him at 7 but that doesn't rate a mention around here because it doesn't suit some people's argument that he's not worthy of a top 10 pick based on mock drafts.

Good inside player from the limited bits I've seen of him. Has a good burst of speed and a good kick. Reminds a bit of Foley how he can burst away from a pack. Would be a good pick up in the 2nd round.

Tigga, if selected, will become a fantastic player for the Richmond Football Club. Played some junior and school footy with and against him and he has all the attributes to make it in the big league. Isn't the fastest player which has been well documented, but more than makes up for it with a great football mind and fearless attack on the footy. Is an excellent character as well, will become a leader at the club and is the type of guy that will get every ounce of ability out of himself. Has better skills than some on here give him credit for and i think he suits the dynamic of the club well.

Remember the three pillars of our recruiting are there to fit into Hardwicks desired gameplan. If you look at Sydney theyve recruited players that suit there contested ball, clearance gamestyle , Hawthorn have recruited players with pinpoint footskills, Fremantle and West Coast have chosen players that can run on the wide expanses of Subiaco. Also while people say that they want to pick the silky skilled players up with their early picks, if you look at Sydney, Geelong, Hawthorn, Collingwood the sides to have won premierships in recent years, i think you'll find that body size and hence contested ball, was fundamental to their success.

I think people need to accept that what the media view as best available and what the club view as best available are different things and I'd certainly place my faith in the club to make the right selection, whether it be Vlastuin or otherwise.
