When Ellis got tired this year we had to keep playing him. When the same inevitably happens to Vlastuin we have a ready made replacement. Same thing if Foley gets injured again. As the 39th/40th bloke added to the list he'd be good value knowing he can at least play to the level.
Reckon he'd be more than that actually. Hopefully put pressure on Jackson on at the very least. Unless he himself is the replacement for someone like Jackson (*if only*), not sure Vlastuin would play as many games as Martin, Conca & Ellis did in their first years. We really had no choice then. The rebuilding phase is over - it's the consolidation stage now.

Jackson barely played a game in our midfield and Houli would have got a game under Hird. Lonergan is a poor man's Tuck and we don't need him. Essendon has no depth in midfield outside Watson< Goddard and Stanton and didn't deem him good enough. Says it all.

Hird only said that he'd like him to stay - Hird said a lot of things in 2010 if you remember. We don't even know what the real coach of Essendon thought of Houli - but given what we know about his m.o. at Geelong, I'd suggest not all that much. Pure speculation that he would've got a game -especially taking into account that they wanted to put more emphasis on defence after Knights' all out attack gameplan - a gameplan even Houli was considered too unaccountable for at the time.

Jackson played less as a mid this year but to imply he was hardly there is not correct.

Poor man's Tuck still > Jackson.

I would be very interested to hear/ know the club's expectations of Arnot for 2013.

Given he seemed to fade badly in VFL last year, his time trial is very encouraging.

Now surely he's an inside mid...
Agree. McGenniss could be this years Arnot pick. Tough inside mid from the TAC that isn't talked about much.

I would be absolutely devastated if we took Corr at 9.

A) He's not talented enough to be a top 10 pick.
B) Wouldn't be in our best 5 KPDs for atleast 3-4 years
C) If we were to even take a KPD, would much rather Plowman or Clurey.
D) Much better talent available.

I just really hope Richmond don't screw this up.

Was injured for a fair chunk of last year wan't he?

Haven't really seen much of him but based on nothing more than a gut feeling think he might be a real surprise packet. Wrecking ball type with smarts and a hint of skill. Would be a nice bonus if he came on. At least needs to be seen as an eventual replacement for/upgrade on Jackson to survive the cut IMO.

Corr over Grundy - the perfect shitstorm.

For every Maric Mumford and Jacobs there is a Wood, Renouf and Seaby.

We shouldn't assume we'll be so lucky with trading for a ruck in future.

Maric, Simmonds, Stafford and Greg Dear are the last 4 rucks that we have traded for and all have been serviceable at worse. In fact it would be fair to say that when we target a ruck in trades it usually comes off.

It is just that if he is around at 9 we would be mentally insane not to take him.
The go home factor is something you need to consider when drafting interstate boys, particularly if you use your first pick on them.

To think that we would have to be mentally insane not to pick him surely must mean you are extremely confident this wont happen?

so why are you so sure?

Yep - and if he ever decides to go home he'd at least have prime trade value.:thumbsu:

Yes. Saw most of Coburg games last year. Showed some solid form when he played but nothing special. Early in the year played predominantly as a mid but later played as a hff with stints in the middle. Very nice hands in close, good kick (not great but not terrible) but for me concentrated too much on trying to kill any opponent near him instead of being strong at the ball. One thing I noticed was that he wasn't shy in giving a team mate a spray which I didn't like:thumbsdown:

I suppose we're due to stuff one up then:p

Seriously though I look at what WCE have done with developing Nic Nat under Cox at AFL level first up forward then gradually seeing him progress to take the majority of the Ruck work and I think we could do the same.
