I can't help but think that Vlastuin will be no more than a solid AFL player.
Nothing spectacular, nothing freakish, just a solid citizen without ever becoming a superstar.
I do think he's the right fit for us, but I can also understand people questioning us going hard for him.
If Wines is available, I would much prefer him.

Solid footballers the last 2yrs>>Conca & Ellis.Maybe its time we went away from "solid" and be abit more daring and risk a Stringer or Garner.

FWIW, we would've been happy to keep him, and pay him what he's worth. We were not willing to match 4 years on something starting with 4 that Port offered. He didn't necessarily want to leave, just an offer he couldn't refuse.
Indeed. Didn't get the feeling it was your traditional "I need to go home" Issue, rather Port valued him more than you did.

Anyone have any insight into my query above, which became a discussion about Monfries (??), as to why Mayes hasn't really been seen (on this board anyway) as a viable option for us at 9?

Not saying he is or even should be, but I'd like some input from those who have a firmer opinion of him than I do.

Personally, if he is seen as just a high HF, then I'd prefer to back in O'Hanlon

Nice little article on Tigger (and if your wondering why i keep using Tigger its cause i still cant f$&king spell his last name correctly :D)

:D^^^^. A hyperactive competive beast that enjoys the rough stuff with solid skills. Can you imagine how he'd go in a super competitive environment. The young guys we have in our mid would just push eachother to the limit to get the absolute max out of eachother. I likey :)

Look at the Swans list it's filled with them "solid working citizens" who are hard working and play to win. Look what they achieved this year.

I'm not disputing it at all, I think Vlastuin would be a great choice for us and as I stated, he fits our needs perfectly.
I can just see why some out there would prefer to take someone with a bit more flair.
Can see both sides of the coin.

Mayes is intriguing, wouldn't mind an answer to this one.

Another question for those in the know, what is Grundy's marking/contested marking like? Standard for a ruckmen or is he a great contested mark?

From what I have seen I'd say he is above average. But haven't seen a lot of him to fully know.

I still really want Marvin Warrell with pick 43. A lot to work with for a mid-range pick. Quick, dual-sided skills, great goal sense, very good tackler, good leap with strong overhead marking ability and he's a decent size for a small forward. Can push him into the midfield or even play him off half back like a Chris Yarran. Plays well in the big games too. Best on in this years GF and kicked 4 goals in last years.

Agree with this. He's a good mark at junior level but as I've said before you'd hope so when you're that much bigger/stronger than everyone else.

FWIW Grundy at SANFL level

Rd 8
8 disposals 1 mark 7 hitouts 0.0
Rd 16
9 disposals 4 marks 7 hitouts 0.0
Rd 17
6 disposals 0 marks 5 hitouts 0.0
Rd 18
3 disposals 1 marks 7 hitouts 0.0
Rd19
6 disposals 3 marks 15 hitouts 0.0
Rd 21
6 disposals 1 mark 31 hitouts 0.0
Rd 22
8 disposals 0 marks 22 Hitouts 0.0
Rd 24
5 disposals 1 mark 9 Hitouts 0.0

51 possessions in 8 games at a bit over 6 per game. Only 3 games managed to get double figure hitouts whilst not impacting on the scoreboard in any game with a grand total off 11 marks in 8 games. If we recruited him and he did that for Coburg I'd hate to see the reaction on here. IMO he'll turn out to be a pretty good player but he's certainly not the ready made prospect that people on here seem to think he is. Long way to go with Grundy.

Reserves level

Rd 5
4 disposals 0 marks 29 hitouts 0.0
Rd 7
13 disposals 4 marks 25 hitouts 0.2
Finals Week 1
13 disposals 4 marks 28 hitouts 1.0
Finals Week 2
7 disposals 1 mark 24 hitouts 0.0
Prelim Final
10 dispoals 1 mark 22 hitouts 0.0

47 disposals in 5 games at 9.4 per game. Averaging 25.6 hitouts and only 1 goal total at 3rds level. Remember what Big Browney did at 3rds level and he didn't get a game at AFL yet we think Grundy is ready-made.

You wouldn't be happy with a Lenny Hayes type character at the club for the next 12 years?!?

2 days out. C'mon where are all our inside informants with guarantees that such and such has been told we will select them and so on.

Looks like there isnt much left to look foward to now that we already know who we will be taking in the draft
#9 - Vlastuin
#32 - Atkins
#34 - Thurlow
#43 - McGenniss

BORINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Why is that a boring draft?

I suspect he is a little too outside given the current game style trends. ROK is one of the best lead up half forwards in the league but had to reinvent himself as a mid as the game no longer suits mid sized lead up half forwards. With our current game style I wouldn't think Mayes is highly suited unless he can put on serious forward pressure.

His Combine results will probably see him be lucky to get drafted.

Bottom 3% in 3km trial.
Bottom 21% in repeat sprints.
Bottom 1% in V02 max.
10.5 beep.
Bottom 13% in agility.
Bottom 20% in all sprints.
Bottom 23% in standing jump.

There'd want to be a reason for that.
