NBA style on draft night even. Then u would really see how clubs rate particular players

I have no idea what their disposal efficiency is. Someone else may have the stats on it.
I rate Vlastuin's kicking as a fair bit above Wines. (dual-sided too)
Vlastuin is also an elite handballer IMO. Wines would still be in the very good category though.
Neither are going to win a sprint but I also don't think either should be classified as slow.
Awareness I'd give to Vlastuin just. He is a fantastic long handball out of packs to teammates.
Both I'd have in the elite category but Wines would just shade him. Wines is a gun in this area.
Vlastuin would be no.1 in the draft for leadership. I've said before he'll be captain after Cotchin.
Neither are a huge scoring threat. Both have shown they can push forward and kick a couple of goals in the odd game. Wines probably more so.
As I've added a category that's in Vlastuin's favour I'll add another important one in for Wines and that is ball-winning and attack on the ball Wines would be ahead. But only just.

I have each shading the other in 3 categories.
Vlastuin (kicking, handball skills and awareness)
Wines (ball-winning, goal-scoring, tackling)

Vlastuin gets the nod with his leadership ability. Not often you can recruit a guy as a future captain.
Just to nit pick Tigs2010, I feel you've excluded one of the most important facets - endurance.

Apparently Wines has elite endurance whereas it has been well documented that Vlastuin needs a lot of work on his tank.

I think this adds more favour to Wines as we are looking for a genuine midfielder over a potential midfielder who will need to play HBF until he builds his tank.

IMHO of course.

Great assessment nonetheless though!

Wines or Vlastuin, Wines or Vlastuin....

o_O

What an incredibly difficult position to be in, just painful ain't it ?? :p

Fair point. But I do think Vlas when not injured will get there anyway. I've spoken about this before that I believe that's the one aspect one can really improve. On the other side of the coin Vlas has been developing an outside game and an ability to play multiple positions which you could say in modern footy is a tick for him over Wines.

We surely cannot go wrong with either :) I'll trust the club with whoever they pick but I really want one of these 2.

Would you be happy with Wines Tigs?

I'd be happy with either. Prefer Vlastuin but they can both play. Just think Vlastuin is a better fit.

Hey tigs, Martin_Riewoldt you've probably done it to death, but how do the Vlas/Wines attribute stack up?

Disposal efficiency
Foot skills either side
Pace
Awareness
Tackling
Leadership
Scoring threat

Thanks!

Disposal efficiency - Vlastuin wins this one. Although Wines is a reliable kick for an inside midfielder, Vlastuin picks out the best target and is very confident in his kicking ability.
Foot skills either side - Vlastuin again. For an inside midfielder this kid is a very good kick, and he has shown he can go on his opposite too. Wines is OK on his left, still has some work to do.
Pace - Wines, although not by much. Neither really need pace for their respective positions, and it's not a weapon for either of them.
Awareness - Vlastuin is very good at handballing into space. It's quite terrific to see how he spots up players on the outskirts of the pack. However, Wines has shown he is capabale of the 'sidestep' a few times.
Tackling - Both are elite in this category, but I think Wines is more of a consistant tackler. He thrives on attacking the man, but Vlastuin more likes to rough up the opposition.
Leadership - Vlastuin is the best leader of this pool, but Wines was a captain too, so there is leadership quality in both.
Scoring threat - Wines has shown that he is a goal threat, but he is not a Martin or Cotchin where he can go forward and just change the game. Vlastuin is far behind in this aspect.

I've never warmed to Wines. I still want Vlastuin, even if Wines is there. Is that the wrong thing?

Isn't Wines far superior in possession numbers as he has elite fitness to allow him to continually get to the contest. A beep test of 15.2 for a 90kg midfielder cannot be underestimated too in keeping from what I just said!

Nope, I'm in the same boat. But happy either way.

I reckon we'll pass.
Wines to Blues
Don't think he'll be there for us anyway tbh. But agree if he is Carlton will get him.

FWIW Brett Anderson has said we are keen on

Pick 32/34: Atkins, Thurlow, Wright, Hams.
Pick 43: McBean, Stewart, Boston.

I wouldn't mind Macrae to be honest. Kicks well on his left and can find the footy.

Wines ahead of Vlas for me purely on ball winning ability but I like the fact that all three of these guys are 188cm range.

Nope, I'm in the same boat. But happy either way.

Don't mean to be a ball break Tigs but do you think you could give us a little run down on McBean, Stewart, Boston and Hams? Thanks chief

Boston! McBean and Stewart - meh.

Vlas
Thurlow
Wright
Boston

might be a bit too similar, but that'd be sweet.

I'm over pick 9 now anyway. Increasingly interested in what follows.

I like Hams, he has been a bit under the radar. Although he is very small, (177cm 69kgs) he is a great footballer. He had a very good combine too (Equal 2nd for kicking, equal second for goal-kicking, 5th for beep test.)

Just from a few notes that I did earlier in the year.

"Very quick, good second efforts, loves to take players on and is a great kick."
"Can run, goal sneak and is good overhead."

He reminds me a bit of Foley.

Thurlow and Wright play similar positions. Though Thurlow can go forward. Whereas Atkins plays most of his footy up forward.

Courageous as all hell too from the little bit I've seen of him. AFL website has 179cm/71kg which I think are combine measurements.
