If Wines is a another Dusty then we should jump on him - the way things are going we might need a spare one.
Would rather a spare Cotchin if theres one out there

Rules out Wines, Vlastuin etc in that case!!!
Maybe Simpson???? Or Kennedy?????

I initially thought it was Kennedy/Simpson/Garlett.

But he's also come out recently and said that he also wants "hard bodied" players that can win their own ball - which brings Wines/Vlastuin back into the equation.

Unless he is just trolling everyone and trying to throw us all off.

i agree but i think hardness at the ball is an x factor in and of itself which is not being recognised in this discussion. this is the x factor i see in hodge not anything flashy.
This was my point exactly when bringing up the Hodge example. We can pick an excellent player that doesn't have 'x' factor. Hodge is the case in point. When people describe Vlas' traits, Hodge comparisons spring to mind. I wouldn't mind a Hodge type player at Richmond. If the club rate him, I would be happy to back them in. But what would I know. I haven't seen these kids develop over the past 2 years like our recruiters have.

Jaksch at 9? No thanks
Surely we are throwing his name out there to make Brissy pounce allowing a mid to fall to us. Although that dosent make much sense its the best i got o_O

Though pretty sure some were comparing Wines to Cotchin a while back. I can't quite see it myself. Really doesn't remind me of either really - more Watson than anything if I had to nominate a current player.

Tambling was still our last top 10 Div 2 pick.;)
the original question who was our last first rounder from div 2 not top ten if i could put one of those silly wink faces in i would but **** it

I'd be happy with that sort of player

Will be very confused and keen to hear FJs reasons if we draft Jaksch ahead of Wines or Vlastuin.

Jaksch will be a very very good player at AFL. He is also a terrific size at 195cm and about 87kgs. Takes a very good mark, has very good speed for a big guy and very good agility. I would pick him infront of Wines and Vlastuin and Lonergan every time. If you look at our list people quote our supposed abundance of talls but reality is that Grimes has dodgy hamstrings, Griffiths has dodgy shoulders, Elton really hasnt had a big chance so we dont know if he will be a long term player although personally I think he will be a very fine player. Astbury still has a very long way to go and needs to improve, McGuane isnt a class player who played up forward last year and Derricx probably wont make it. If you take Jaksch you get a very good player a player who has terrific size and someone you can add to your mix of bigger sized players. As I said, I would pick him before Wines, Vlastuin or Lonergan every time. If we get Jaksch I'll be extremely happy tomorrow night.

Not saying Jaksch will be a dud, just don't believe that another KPP is what we need.

Just tried to answer your question thats all. I think we all gonna be pretty happy when the draft is over and we should all get behind and support our new kids irrespective of who they are.
Well said.

Pretty sure FJ will say he was the best available talent at our pick. Isn't that what most say when drafting in first round - go best available?

Don't get me wrong I'll support whoever we take.

He has come out in the media and said that "speed is king"

But he's also come out recently and said that he also wants "hard bodied" players that can win their own ball...
Off the top of my head, Lonergan would meet all those requirements. Burst speed (ala Judd), hard bodied, wins his own ball.

If that's his logic I'd like to see him explain taking Jaksch over Grundy

Would be good to have another hard-nosed Tassie boy on our list.... but at Pick #11, I think its a bit of a reach.

... then again Barry Prendergast does work for Carlton these days.

Don't mean to be a ball break Tigs but do you think you could give us a little run down on McBean, Stewart, Boston and Hams? Thanks chief
****ing hell want fries with that? Haha only kidding. Happy to do it.

Liam McBean 203cm/87kg
Tall skillful utility from Calder Cannons. Played predominantly as a KPD at Champs but can play as a KPF as well. Whilst ruckman size he still has some filling out to do and would at the most be a pinch hit type IMO. He moves like a midfielder and has elite kicking skills off both feet. I'm not sure whether he will ever fill out enough or what position he plays at AFL level but at 43 may well be worth the punt as I think he could well go first round.

James Stewart 198cm/80kg
CHF/CHB who also has elite skills off both feet and is very agile for someone standing 198cm. Not sure he is hard enough at the contest but he's super skilled. Little bit of a Jack Watts type as a comparison I'd say. I think 43 is a bit high for him. WOuld prefer Stewart or Boston.

Andrew Boston 179cm/75kg
Really classy midfielder/forward. If he's still there at 43 snap him up. Apparently didn't test very well so that's the knock on him. Rarely misses targets and can push forward and hit the scoreboard. A knock on him would be he needs to go in and win more of his own ball which I think he is capable of.

Will Hams 179cm/71kg
High skilled midfielder/defender from Gippy Power whilst lacking in size, he makes up for it with courage and relentless attack on the ball. Can push forward and kick goals as well and has some nice burst speed. Capable of throwing himself and winning the ball as an inside mid or using his skills as an outside mid. Has a pretty good leap on him too.
