Wut? Garlett has too many issues. Martin's issues has been well documented but I think he's a kind of player who, if you said to him: "you can't drink or smoke at all this year and you must train harder" I think Martin would accept that, would Garlett?

I think it's staggering that 13 clubs have essentially said: "Garlett? Yeah... nah" if anything, I could be being kind to the kid. I've heard WA posters call him a headcase. As I said, Martin just seems to be a country boy who needs to grow up and hang around the right kind of people. Hopefully with Connors gone that happens. Garlett seems to be a potential cancer on the club which just got rid of the cancer known as Dan "it's not my fault, I just forgot to charge my phone" Connors.

I know Sydney have ruled him out, but I think he would be really suited to them. The club has just won the flag, and could easily say to him: "hey buddy, we just won the flag, get in line" he'd see all these upstanding blokes like Bolton, O'Keefe, Hannebery and Kennedy who have very good work ethics and how they train, he'd see Goodes who would hopefully take him under his wing, (and how could Garlett disappoint his hero?) Longmire would probably make it clear that he wouldn't take any rubbish from him and would probably read him the riot act if he ever played up. It's also a market where troubled kids can disappear given the media scrutiny in Sydney isn't as high as say WA or Victoria. But I understand Sydney's decision.

The kid hasn't made a life choice yet.

Soon he will say get busy iiving or choose dying off in 3 years. Garlett is an educated punt at 2nd pick. Like Taylor still worth the shot. I have faith , maybe blind, but if you do not believe what the f.. are you living for anyway, gotta have hope someone will get their shit together that can:D.

Martin needs to get a gun and shoot a few moos or roos:D

I think he's made plenty of life choices already to be honest.

Oh Christ, just because I'm sceptical about Garlett's future doesn't mean I'm in some existential nihilistic funk, it just means that Garlett has massive issues and I can understand why Hardwick wouldn't want to deal with another potential Connors type situation. In fact Garlett sounds a lot like Connors: a highly talented player who was predicted by some to go high but slips due to personality issues. I just think Richmond want a stress free march into the top 8 in 2013 and Garlett may not be in that picture.

Yes, :p but hey, it does have some truth to it, Richmond aren't the trade bunnies they used to be. ****** bloody ******* :(
Lol. isn't mentioning that name a cardable offence?

Was more getting at no one wanted to trade 2 picks for our 1.

PLease a bit of transparency. what are his issues.

As for life choices, he is 18 or so and hasn't even shot some one in a war. The kid hasn't even been able to get out of his nappies by the left freaksters.

GF match winner , or dud, roll the dice wowsers!!!:p

The risk, Mr Magic Mushroom, is that months after removing one cancer from the club (IMO at least partly because of the influence he was having on Dusty), some are naieve enough to believe that the only risk taking Garlett with our second pick, is that we waste our second pick. In reality, we are ALSO potentially jeapordising a very talented #3 pick.

Still keen to back in our people to make it work, that being the case?

Fact is, no matter how talented, if Garlett doesn't have the character to leave old habits behind, and commit to the lifestyle required to be a professional athlete, then he won't make it, and I don't want him at the club I support.

Not as big a risk as wasting a No.1 pick on Vlas with all due respect:rolleyes:.

BTW if the cancer is still there was Connors the true source or something else??

Gotta say if I was playing footy at RFC I would have to have to worry about the overbearing nappy changers it seems!! and I was a good little boy:D

Does anybody else get the feeling that we are looking at Vlastuin and absolutely no one else..it feels as if we will pick him over whitfield.
IMO there are much better players we should jump on if they slide. Menzel, Stringer, Wines - in that order should be our preference. I see Vlastuin as a pick 17 player. If we passed on menzel or wines i'll put a whole in my wall

I know you too well to reply with "NSIS?"

This seems appropriate...

Not having a go at you but can I ask what you base your opinion on? Do you watch these kids play or are you just going off mocks and afl.com.au highlights and hype?

Nope, I'm in the same boat. But happy either way.

Don't think he'll be there for us anyway tbh. But agree if he is Carlton will get him.

FWIW Brett Anderson has said we are keen on

Pick 32/34: Atkins, Thurlow, Wright, Hams.
Pick 43: McBean, Stewart, Boston.
Those options at 43 worry me.

too much tunnel vision for mine, not enough apparent consideration and adaptability and frankly I hope the hell we are not picking Vlastuin because if we were it is completely negligent everyone seems to know and promote the fact we were picking him, Almost arrogant in the sense no other club would investigate and reconsider an earlier pick. If earlier clubs are so blatantly not going to pick Vlastuin for us to be so transparent are they the mugs or us the mugs??:(

McBean is talented. My query is on what position does he become at AFL level. Stewart if it was pick 88 then yer sure take a punt. Boston is the only one I like there. Though Shane Nelson could be the interesting late inclusion for that pick.

read somewhere that our draft position has the scum at the lexus center sweating in terms of picking up a young ruckman in the 2nd round...anyone have any goss on this Spencer White?

His twitter
His twitter conversation merely mentioned that he doesn't have Foxtel, not that he isn't attending the draft.

He's a KPF who struggled with asthma early in the year. Once he got that sorted he started to dominate games. Kicked 36 goals in the TAC this year. Compared to the next Buddy on the AFL site which is ridiculous but hey I'm running with it if we pick him. :p

We are keen at 33 they are at 38. They may take him at 20 to get in first lol.

yeah thats fine. I have seen the highlights..and also a few games.. I havent watched them all year but Menzel plays exactly like his brother! stringer IMO is the next goddard and Wines is arguably the best inside midfielder in the draft. Ive read most of the reviews throughout the years too.
I just cant really find a reason to get overly excited about Vlastuin. That opinion can change quickly but at the moment I feel as though we should be recruiting that x-factor player at 9..rather than the safe solid player at 9

Fact is, the club has a number of full time recruiters, who watch these kids years out from being eligible for the draft. If we stop and think about this for a minute, I'm sure all of us (apart from Mr Magic) could admit that we couldn't possibly know the players better than the club.

So, when you strip it back, I think the issue is that we either don't understand, or don't agree with the recruiting strategy/criteria of the club. If Vlastuin is our man, while some may think there are more talented players on the board, we have to consider that the club knows, or takes into consideration factors we are not privvy to. Obviously our much talked about three pillars policy springs to mind, in particular character, which most of us would not be good judges of, no matter how many U18 highlights we've watched.

Just one final point on Vlas. Anyone stopped to consider the fact that he was very highly rated (top 3 by some, and certainly higher than mid teens by most AFAIK) a year ago. Then, after having an injury interrupted season, having to play out of his preferred position, and no doubt setting him back in some of the areas that are now considered areas of concern (speed, stamina), he's slid down the rankings somewhat? Anyone considered that if our recruiters watched more than just his 2012 games/highlights, they might realise he has the potential, with a full recovery from this year's injury issues, and a good preseason or two, that he might just get back to 2011 form, upon which he was so highly rated? Just throwing it out there!

We have been linked to Vlastuin and only Vlastuin.
If he was as good as we think he is, wouldn't some other clubs also be in the mix to nab him?
I get the feeling that if we DON'T pick him up, he may slide a long way down the order.
Don't really know what to make of it.
Maybe other clubs aren't rating our recruiting.

I'm still hoping for Kristian Jaksch @ 9. Then hopefully some good midfielders with our last 3 picks.
