Because no one would trade with us.
"Gee, Richmond did a number on Adelaide twice! No way are we trading with those tricksters."

Wut? Garlett has too many issues. Martin's issues has been well documented but I think he's a kind of player who, if you said to him: "you can't drink or smoke at all this year and you must train harder" I think Martin would accept that, would Garlett?
I think it's staggering that 13 clubs have essentially said: "Garlett? Yeah... nah" if anything, I could be being kind to the kid. I've heard WA posters call him a headcase. As I said, Martin just seems to be a country boy who needs to grow up and hang around the right kind of people. Hopefully with Connors gone that happens. Garlett seems to be a potential cancer on the club which just got rid of the cancer known as Dan "it's not my fault, I just forgot to charge my phone" Connors.
I know Sydney have ruled him out, but I think he would be really suited to them. The club has just won the flag, and could easily say to him: "hey buddy, we just won the flag, get in line" he'd see all these upstanding blokes like Bolton, O'Keefe, Hannebery and Kennedy who have very good work ethics and how they train, he'd see Goodes who would hopefully take him under his wing, (and how could Garlett disappoint his hero?) Longmire would probably make it clear that he wouldn't take any rubbish from him and would probably read him the riot act if he ever played up. It's also a market where troubled kids can disappear given the media scrutiny in Sydney isn't as high as say WA or Victoria. But I understand Sydney's decision.

The kid hasn't made a life choice yet.
Soon he will say get busy iiving or choose dying off in 3 years. Garlett is an educated punt at 2nd pick. Like Taylor still worth the shot. I have faith , maybe blind, but if you do not believe what the f.. are you living for anyway, gotta have hope someone will get their shit together that can![]()

Surely you're joking right?

I think he's made plenty of life choices already to be honest.
Oh Christ, just because I'm sceptical about Garlett's future doesn't mean I'm in some existential nihilistic funk, it just means that Garlett has massive issues and I can understand why Hardwick wouldn't want to deal with another potential Connors type situation. In fact Garlett sounds a lot like Connors: a highly talented player who was predicted by some to go high but slips due to personality issues. I just think Richmond want a stress free march into the top 8 in 2013 and Garlett may not be in that picture.

The risk, Mr Magic Mushroom, is that months after removing one cancer from the club (IMO at least partly because of the influence he was having on Dusty), some are naieve enough to believe that the only risk taking Garlett with our second pick, is that we waste our second pick. In reality, we are ALSO potentially jeapordising a very talented #3 pick. The kid hasn't made a life choice yet.

Martin needs to get a gun and shoot a few moos or roos![]()

Still keen to back in our people to make it work, that being the case?
Fact is, no matter how talented, if Garlett doesn't have the character to leave old habits behind, and commit to the lifestyle required to be a professional athlete, then he won't make it, and I don't want him at the club I support.

I know you too well to reply with "NSIS?"Not as big a risk as wasting a No.1 pick on Vlas with all due respect.

Should be able to do a lot more, like draft Grundy at 9 and immediately trade him to GWS for Tyson, for example. You should be able to trade draft picks up until the day of the draft.
Now that'd be fun!
P.S. that's no way to talk about the next captain of the RFC (after Cotch, of course). Not as big a risk as wasting a No.1 pick on Vlas with all due respect.

Does anybody else get the feeling that we are looking at Vlastuin and absolutely no one else..it feels as if we will pick him over whitfield.
IMO there are much better players we should jump on if they slide. Menzel, Stringer, Wines - in that order should be our preference. I see Vlastuin as a pick 17 player. If we passed on menzel or wines i'll put a whole in my wall
Those options at 43 worry me.Nope, I'm in the same boat. But happy either way.
Don't think he'll be there for us anyway tbh. But agree if he is Carlton will get him.
FWIW Brett Anderson has said we are keen on
Pick 32/34: Atkins, Thurlow, Wright, Hams.
Pick 43: McBean, Stewart, Boston.

McBean is talented. My query is on what position does he become at AFL level. Stewart if it was pick 88 then yer sure take a punt. Boston is the only one I like there. Though Shane Nelson could be the interesting late inclusion for that pick. Those options at 43 worry me.
His twitter conversation merely mentioned that he doesn't have Foxtel, not that he isn't attending the draft. His twitter
He's a KPF who struggled with asthma early in the year. Once he got that sorted he started to dominate games. Kicked 36 goals in the TAC this year. Compared to the next Buddy on the AFL site which is ridiculous but hey I'm running with it if we pick him.read somewhere that our draft position has the scum at the lexus center sweating in terms of picking up a young ruckman in the 2nd round...anyone have any goss on this Spencer White?

Not having a go at you but can I ask what you base your opinion on? Do you watch these kids play or are you just going off mocks and afl.com.au highlights and hype?
Fact is, the club has a number of full time recruiters, who watch these kids years out from being eligible for the draft. If we stop and think about this for a minute, I'm sure all of us (apart from Mr Magic) could admit that we couldn't possibly know the players better than the club.Does anybody else get the feeling that we are looking at Vlastuin and absolutely no one else..it feels as if we will pick him over whitfield.
