Elton was touted as a first rounder and imo he nailed Batchelor other than maybe missing out on Luke Parker...
first rounder by who ,not the other clubs especially gws or suns with all the picks they had , would've chosen 20 players before Elton.

from what i can remember he was touted as a top pick and unlucky not to get selected as 17y/o to go to gws but was severly hampered by a spider bite in which he had to play footy and then go to hopsital to be put on a drip.

said so many times before this draft will make or break us.
we need one more cleanout (y know who has to go).
this list could take us to to our next flag. we need a balance b/w players. safety with Vlas ok but give me some x factor as well. even though I am all over grundy.

The key word was 'touted'. Elton was seen as a potential top 10 draft pick for much of the year, before having an underwhelming championships. I'm pretty sure he was in our pick 15 calculations also.

thank god we didn't take him with 15 then.

Read this from Snoop Dog and Knightmare on Bigfooty have good eye for talent..I want this kid.

Nick Vaustin
Northern Knights
187cm / 83kg / ‘93
I really like this kid and he will appeal to a club as a potential Luke Hodge type player. That might be a big call but he is a terrific player. He is very highly rated individual who was a standout at the AIS and is a real on field leader. Has played HB and midfield predominantly but I think he will start more in the back half. Very efficient dual sided player who is a great height, has great hands, and is very aggressive at the stoppages and contested ball. Just seems to make good decisions and he seems to always be in the play. He never seems overly flustered either, just has that ability to take his time. Seen a fair bit of him now and have always walked away thinking he will be a player. Locked in on him and he is unlikely to go higher. If not him I suspect Macrae.

#9 Richmond – Nick Vlastuin (VIC – Mid/Def)
Height: 187cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 19/04/1994
Recruited from: Northern Knights
Style: Michael Voss
Player comparison:
Range: 9-19
Profile: Midfielder who consistently wins the contested footy and just consistently goes harder than the next player. Big time clearance player. Skill level is exceptional, uses it well by both hand and foot and rarely makes mistakes. Particularly stands out by foot and has nice penetration. Has also been noted for leadership and really leads by example out on the field so there is a lot to like. Marking ability forward of centre very good for a midfielder. Consistently plays to a high level. Athletically only average and endurance still a work in progress and will need to improve before he develops into a full time midfielder. Tackles hard and willingly works both ways. Looks like a very low risk, solid pro who is worthy of a high draft position. Probably didn’t produce the numbers at the u18 champs that many expected but still a very desirable prospect and a guy you can play through the midfield or off a back flank tomorrow which will appeal to a number of clubs. One of those guys you’d love to have around the club

Why?
Please don't go postal and spray an AK-47 down at Punt Road if they do.. I'm really liking the squad of players and coaches we are putting together.
His biggest knock is his fitness. He would've had extensive training throughout Vic Metro and TAC Cup but still can't get it right. Am I right in hearing he got mid 10s in the beep test? I'm no athlete and I put together an 11 once. I just think with the sub rule and capped interchanges he won't suit AFL.

According to the vid we are going to take best available at each pick, and in no uncertain terms Vlastuin is far far far behind Menzel. If he is available we must take him. Id even have Vlastuin behind Wines, just seems like the type of player we could easily pick up with our 2nd round pick and not lose out on much at all.

so no chance for two talls MR the grundy lovers will be shattered .
If its for Vlastuin then won't be too dissapointed. Would have liked Grundy but realise Tigger will play a major role for us too. Win win

From what I've read, menzel is top 3 on talent alone. If he slides past us then you can bet half a dozen clubs did their homework and aren't comfortable with the medical stuff. We're in no position to argue with that.

From what I've read his LARS surgery was 2 years ago now, with no subsequent complications re the artificial ligament and furthermore, a renowned knee specialist did affirm he'll have a very good career. Would be a steal at 9.

Can't wait for tomorrow.

Anyway, trashing the players like some are is silly. Vlas is not someone that you will pick up as a late second rounder liek some are suggesting. You don't get the best (equal or actual) inside mid, with great skills, excellent footy brain and who is likely to be an AFL captain at pick 30+!!!
That is top 5-10. This year there are a heap of guys with top line talent in the first 12-15 picks. Who you liek has ot do with preferences, it is not clear cut. talls take longer, but have greater value if they come through. Pure footballing talent vs. character and leadership is a big call. I'd go 50:50, others go 95:5. That's why I like Vlas, he gets 50% from me as well as being talented. By all accounts Wines is similar or more talented, and is aleader, but not as much. How you rank these things is important. FJ et al rank character very highly, and I like this. It is character that leads to idiots with talent not stayiong on the list, no names but you can write an epic book on them and that's just in the RFC.

I will go with whoever is picked, because our drafting team is professional, balanced and has a good track record. i am a keyboard jockey with little or no knowledge, and even less about potential AFL draftees.

Menzel,Garner,Grundy,Stringer,Garlett even Lonergan just off the top
Menzel - Knee problems
Garner - Shoulder problems
Stringer - Leg problems
Garlett - Off field issues

Lonergan, is most definitely a talented player but not at the level of Vlastuin.

Plus, what people don't realize, there is barely any gap between Vlastuin's best and worst. This is one of the most important features to a players game. Prime example is Cotchin. Cotchin's worst is a low 20 possesion game however still impacts the game with his contested work and tackling. Exactly the same as young Nick.

Have faith guys!

Garlett at 9 would be an absolute disgrace of a decision, goes against everything we have said with character testing being a major focus.
Kid will flop unless he is somehow overlooked completely which would be the kick up the arse he needs.

And I'm sick to death of people saying "take a punt with pick 9".

A first round pick is where you DON'T take a punt, you choose the safe, reliable option.

What hurts more down the track, stuffing up your pick 9 or stuffing up your pick 42?

You take punts with your later picks as they have much lower expectations and if they fail to meet expectations, then so be it.

I'm willing to take a punt on Vlastuin at 9 ;)
