Carter? Ashby? But I know you like Osborne.
Carter. I do like Osborne for a side who needs a HBF right this minute ala Collingwood. I don't think you guys are in that position though. You need one in a couple of years to be able to step up. Whose the one you have best available at the moment.

Carter. Mentioned him back on page 1 of this thread I believe. Are you tempted to go for a key forward or ruck now or in the 60s, or overlook them as we are descending into battler territory?

Ok well just pray Royal Eagle doesn't take him for WC. Doesn't really fill a need for them but he is a local so he may take him as best available. I'm interested to see where Haynes goes. I don't rate him highly but others talk him up a bit. Picks in the 60's I've got a FF and a shutdown FB (got 3 I like so surely one lasts and it's why I can afford to go best available next). I'm glad Freo are done otherwise Chris may take them. :D Not a huge fan of that many rucks. There's one who I don't mind but I'm worried about if he ever fills out body wise. If he's still there by the 90's I'll snap him up.

Voice between FF and FB I'd say we would need FF more. If neither are there reach for Fort or grab the best available if you think a ruck would slide to 90's

I thought you had 2 picks in the 60's? I was going to nab one of each. I should probably double check that before my next pick.

My bad 66 and 67. So FF then FB and if intl one was left i'd go fort with 67 if available thoughts?

I've got Fort going to you guys in my mock draft but tbh I'm not sure he'll ever put on the weight required. He's very skinny and narrow through the shoulders. I think you guys are the best at developing rucks so you may have some luck with him but I have one I like better who doesn't feature in my mock draft as he has suffered some injuries and I wanted to be able to grab him late in this so haven't put him in my draft till this is over.

Mitchell? But yer Lonergan was far and away best available for what I had left. If anyone saw what happened, Doggies were given Lonergan by default and I took Wright as a HBF but Doggies changed their pick to Smith and I managed to get Lonergan and now I'm happy because my best available for next pick is a HBF who I wouldn't take if I already had one.

Seems to be of a hybrid type player (Can get allot of possessions by running on the outside as well).
Main issue with Mitchell though is he has been very injury prone ever since he turned 16 so whilst he has talent by the bucket load he may not have the body to cope with AFL football.

Not to mention we will probably be losing Bolton and ROK over the next few years so will need a bit more depth in the position.

Here's my second rounders. Got Adam Carter as I had hoped.

Pick 45 - Sydney Swans - Aidan Corr (KPD/Utility)
Height: 194cm
Weight: 80kg
Club: Northern Knights

Was lucky enough that my best available fills a need for the Swans as a future KPD with their current KPD's pushing 30 it will be important to get 1 or 2 in this year so that they are developed by the time LRT and Teddy Richards retire. Personally I see Corr as an attacking CHB which seems to fit the mould of the current game. Corr has a really good solid mix of attack and defence. Is capable of clamping down on an opponent but also can hurt the opponent with his running and rebounding skills. On his running, Corr is a fantastic athlete who has spent a fair portion of the TAC Cup playing as a winger so has a fair bit of versatility. As can be seen by his weight of just 80kg, Corr will be a bit of a project but as we already have KPD's for the short term I see him being the perfect fit. Whilst he may take a few years to fill out into the CHB I envision him becoming but I could see him getting some AFL experience in his 1st/2nd year as a running wingman to get him up to the speed of AFL by the time retirements start to kick in. I have him going early 2nd round to the Saints so pretty happy to get him at pick 45.

Pick 47 - Sydney Swans - Adam Carter (Midfielder/Defender)
Height: 179cm
Weight: 70kg
Club: South Fremantle

Another best available selection that just so happens to fill another future need with Shaw, Mattner, Malceski all getting on in age. He's one I'm hoping lasts long enough for Richmond to snap up at 32/34 in the real thing. Real hard nut defender who can push up into the midfield and win contested ball which I think will help him fit into the Sydney culture. Whilst he's listed at a tiny 179cm and only 70kg I would be shocked if he wasn't closer to high 70's. Has a really solid build. Had a very good year playing colts footy for South Freo where at times he was pretty damaging on the scoreboard with a couple of 3 goal hauls. Made his debut in the WAFL seniors late in the year and notched up 2 games before playing finals back in the Colts. This kid is tough as nails and really skilled and could see him playing a variety of roles at AFL level. Has a good defensive side to his game so can shut down small forwards but can also play a rebounding role using his foot skills to deliver out of the defensive 50. Through the midfield he is able to play on the wing with his skills or as a centre square mid (which will take awhile at AFL level and at Sydney he probably won't be more than a pinch-hitter) due to his attack on the ball.

Next installment. As promised a FF and a FB. Got 2 picks to go and I'll probably look at a ready to go FF for win now mode that you guys are in and best available with a view to getting a ruckman in the rookie draft as I believe there will be too much talent on the board for me to grab a ruck yet.

Pick #66 - Sydney - Mason Middleton (KPF)
Height: 191cm
Weight: 95kg
Club: West Adelaide

Mason is an interesting one and a kid who haven't seen much of but what I have seen I rate highly. Really big bodied kid from Barmera in country SA. Suffered a few injuries this year I believe which has affected a) his continuity & production and b) his chances of being drafted main draft. Missed out on the SA National squad which was a little bit of a surprise for me (though he could have been injured - Chris may have an idea of this) Middleton is a really good athlete who has a tremendous leap and great strength as evidenced by his ability to play as a 2nd ruck. However, at AFL level he will be purely a forward. His contested marking and accurate kicking for goal are the highlights of his game.

In his 7 H&A games at under 18 level he averaged 17 possessions, 5 marks and kicked 19.6. He backed this up on his return in the finals with a 16 disposal 11 mark (6 contested) 4.2 game.

For Sydney, I would hope he would develop into a big strong full-forward who would compliment Sam Reid perfectly heading into the future. Pre-injury I would have had been happy to snap him up around 40 with the attributes he brings to the table (strong, athletic, contested marking and accuracy in front of goal) so was happy to get him here even though he's a fair chance to go rookie draft if at all in the real thing.

Pick #67 - Sam Siggins (KPD)
Height: 195cm
Weight: 82kg
Club: Lauderdale

Had Siggins lined up for one of my picks in the 40's until Corr slid through and he was too hard to pass up. To get this kid in the 60's. Was hoping one of 3 KPD's were going to be available here and as it turns out they all were so Siggins it is. Tall, lanky KPD from Tasmania who looks like filling out into a really nice size. Has a good mix between his defensive game as well as his attacking/rebounding game. His first priority seems to be to stop his man and then he will look to rebound once his main job is done. Doesn't get a heap of the ball but when he does his skills are very good for a tall defender. He reminds me of a young Richmond player in Dylan Grimes with his strong shutdown game but also surprisingly good skills when rebounding. Will fit in Sydney's no dickhead's policy with his strong leadership attributes. IMO Siggins is a great long-term replacement for Teddy Richards at full back and along with Sam Reid who is already at the club I feel like I've drafted a future spine for the club with Middleton, Reid, Lonergan, Corr, Siggins.

Do any of you fancy Dean Towers? Improved, mature-aged winger of the Isaac Smith mould. Vastly improved year, and knowing your history with mature picks, I would think your recruiters would be looking at him.

He is being looked at by all 18 teams I would imagine. Had a brilliant season with North Ballarat. Wouldn't say 'no'. Much bigger than Smith.

I would like to add that I like the philosophy of recruiting mature aged players as you sort of know what you're getting. Look at Kirky, even though it took a couple of attempts, he turned out ok ;). John Stevens was pretty good, Pykey not bad and then our trading with other clubs can't be discounted.

I don't rate him at all for us. We have a long list of flankers and he isn't amazing enough to be 'best available' over a type we actually need. Not to mention the fact that 23 is too high and I'd be surprised if he got into the 40s.

If we don't get Tippett i think we could do with another chf to replace when goodsey retires in 2017. I would have thought a key position defender would be our first priority at 22 if we don't get Tippett

I wouldn't be against our club trying to get Ben Jacobs from Port Adelaide he has shown a bit in my eyes. I know he has said he wants to go to a Melbourne club but I'm sure we could persuade him.

Who I hope we'll land are

Pick 23: Colquhoun, Smith, Clurey, Lonergan, Membrey
Pick 45 & 47: McIntosh, Corr, White, Temay, O'Brien, Stewart
Picks 66 & 67: Ashby, Thurlow, Simpson, Irra, Sumner

Mostly Talls with good size and pace, a few HBF's and some smaller players with real pace and agility.

Lonergan probably the only inside mid I'd want after the top few.

I'd rookie him, nothing more. Watching him play he constantly made bad decisions and you could see his team mates did not want him out there. Maybe he's one of those players that can't play in a bad team, maybe he was playing with injuries I don't know. But as I see it, he was the worst player I watched play an AFL game this year.

I would like us to pick up Tipungwuti. He has real talent and the amount of work he's had to do to get this far is incredible. He also is a type of player we don't really have on our list currently.

Matches up exactly with what I have...

Here's my last 2 picks in the draft.

Pick #91 - Sydney - Khan Haretuku (KPF/Ruck)
Height: 199cm
Weight: 106kg
Club: Frankston (VFL)

Haretuku is the ex-Saint rookie who has had a very good season playing in the VFL. He is an absolute monster of a young man and would be ready to go straight away. I really like him for his big strong marking and this late in the draft I felt it important to try grab Sydney a ready-made FF after grabbing Middleton for the future. Long term once Goodes retires, Sydney will be able to field a forward line of Reid CHF Middleton FF with Haretuku as the 3rd tall/2nd ruck. For this reason Haretuku fits an immediate need as well as having youth on his side to play an important role in the future. Other I considered was Justin Hardy but felt Haretuku could be a monster to try stop if he can put it all together.

Pick #96 - Sydney - Sam Gilmore (Ruck)
Height: 201cm
Weight: 93kg
Club: Northern Knights

IMO Gilmore is the second best of the junior rucks behind Grundy. Had a really good Championships playing all 5 games and finishing every game with more hit outs than anyone else on the field. Really good young tap ruckman who gives his mids first use of the footy regularly. Gilmore doesn't mind getting his hands dirty at ground level and can tackle hard. He's reasonably good overhead and can push forward successfully. Of the other young rucks (ie not Grundy) I feel Gilmore has the biggest frame that will allow him to put on the required weight to make it at AFL level. Darcy Fort for example has the thinnest shoulders I've ever seen in my life. :p Other player I considered was Lewis Pierce who I have a little bit behind Gilmore. Currie is another ruck I would rate over Gilmore but Sydney's need is more for a developing ruck to bring through behind Mumford/Pyke rather than have a ready-made back-up.

Overall I got:
1 inside mid who is ready to go: Jesse Lonergan
1 HBF who could develop into a mid if you need him to but could replace a few future retirements: Adam Carter
2 KPD: Sam Siggins (FB) & Aidan Corr (CHB)
2 KPF: 1 for now (Haretuku) and 1 for the future (Middleton)
1 young ruck: Sam Gilmore
