2012 draw

Point is, in a fair and equitable draw, surely each team would play the other in sequence, kinda like a home and away system over time.

We played Sydney twice within 2 months this year.

Yet we play Geelong and Hawthorn once a year, and have done for the last 5.

I agree that it should be a draw and if it cannot be equitable in a single year should at least be so over a few years. .. I could live without playing Collingwood twice in a year, for example, if it were a true draw. .. The AFL don't even call it a 'draw' any more its a fixture and hence fixed. ..

The problem with the AFL right now fitting it into a schedule over X amount of games (or seasons) is the blockbuster games. If you eliminated those;

year 1: 22 games -- 1.294 x played each team
year 2: 44 games -- 2.588 x played each team
year 3: 66 games -- 3.88 x played each team
year 4: 88 games -- 5.176 x played each team

By round 19 of year 4 each team can play each other five times.

Now that the GWS and GCS are in there is no way that the AFL would put in another team for at least eight years. Therefore, by round 16 of year eight each team has played each other ten times.

Marquee teams would not give up the marquee games. Non-Victorian teams wouldn't give up their annual local derby x2.

In the fixture, to be released on Friday:

CARLTON is set to become one of the marquee Friday night clubs along with grand finalists Collingwood and Geelong in the prime TV slot.

MELBOURNE and North Melbourne have won the AFL fixture lottery after being handed two matches against Greater Western Sydney next year.

They are the only Victorian clubs to double up against the likely easybeats.

Melbourne gifted another opportunity to get in the top 8 by default. Dees and Norf will still manage to screw it up somehow.

As Thy said, can't believe the Pies aren't making a Perth trip. AFL have sugar coated it by sending them interstate to play the cellar dwellers (with the exception of Sydney).

Wonder who'll do a Western Bulldogs and flop next year...Tipping the Eagles and Sydney

Playing those two teams twice does help their top 8 chances, playing GC twice helped Hawks secure a top 4 this year, yeh massive sugar coating the Pies interstate draw, well footy karma might just see them playing a final in WA.

My flop tip is Essendon, teams like North, Freo, even the Crows will improve and over take them, GC to improve as well.

Ill be very disapointed if we dont get or Gold Coast twice next year.

Surely the fair thing to do is to allow those teams who only played the gold coast once last season and are only playing GWS once next season to get the double against the Suns twice this coming season

When one fixturing decision can effectively mean an 8 point turnaround between 2 teams surely fairness has to come into it eventually....

Remember, we are talking about a FIXture, nothing fair about it. Its all about attendances and money.

Outside our control so not worth worrying about. The only way you can get a soft draw is if A) You're Collingwood or B) You tank like the Weagles did in 2010. The AFL and TV networks know Carlton is a massive drawcard, and so they'll load us up in the prime-time slots. The R1 Bleakmond game is a way for the AFL to capitalise on the massive Richmond supporter pre-season hype i.e get in before everyone realises how bad they are.

:)

It also includes team requests. .. and teams request the high drawing sides. .. GWS and GCS want to play Carlton in their home towns to get the packed house at home. ..

Also, the AFL doesn't want to see the new sides pummelled, too often, so softer (less ruthless) teams like North, Melbourne, etc. cop these sides twice more often than not. ..

The Hawks played GC twice this year Clay.

Easy 8 points.

What a joke....why do North Melbourne get two games against GWS?

Shouldn't it be just the teams closer to the bottom of the ladder-eg Port Adelaide and not teams that competed for top 8?? Doesn't this give North Melbourne a free pass to the finals?

Why do Hawthorn get two games against Port?

The difference between making the top8 and the top 4 hinge on how many of these easier games you get.

For once - I would like Carlton to get the sort of preferential draw that teams like Collingwood, Hawthorn etc get..

Why is that a feature?

Their interstate games are against Port Adelaide (Round 4), Brisbane (Round 7), Adelaide (Round 9), GWS (Round 18) and Sydney (Round 20).

I assume Round 20 is at ANZ too. ..

Neither team is there yet. In our case if we'd made the 8 we'd have been bundled out like you mob in recent years. Neither here nor there until you're a definite chance. (But thanks for the well wishes. :p)

Geez North v GWS, footballs newest rivalry.

You'd wanna book your seats early for that ripper at Etihad, they'd nearly pull 8k, and the Kangas will be writing another 6 figure cheque to the moneypit.
Geez, we can't take a trick with you guys, can we? Play them twice and we're getting a soft draw. Play them at Etihad (inevitably) and its ridiculed.

Yes, like the Dogs and Saints, we'll continue to lose money to Collo at Etihad. We'll make ten times more in two games in Hobart than for the rest of our matches combined. Oh for a Skilled Stadium deal. Anyways, back to your charitable post - perhaps we can hope for some curious neutrals for GWS' first game in Melbourne.
