The start of the season will be key to our success.
10 out of the first 11 games are against teams who finished below us in the top four.
Teams we play twice: GWS, Geelong, Hawthorn, Bulldogs, St Kilda. Not easy games for us by any means.

I'm reasonably happy with our draw, seems reasonably easy for the most part, gives us a good chance to build an early lead.
Will need it for the tough run home with Carlton Collingwood Hawthorn and Geelong in the last 5 rounds.

A few interesting things to come out of the draw for us:

- We have our first game in Tasmania against Hawthorn in round 5
- 3 more games at ANZ but 2 of which are against GWS (perhaps our record there will continue to turn now)
- 2 Sunday arvo games at SCG that are scheduled for a new time slot, 3.15pm, 2 Saturday arvo games at 4.40 plus a few Melbourne games that are also Saturday afternoon twilight games (a new one this year)

The 2.10 first bounce is seemingly a thing of the past...

Gold coast only once !

Key point. Only once and on the Gold Coast again.

They will have to wait now until 2013 to come to the SCG to play us. But I suppose we don't have to run the risk of drawing a small crowd and losing money. I believe our home fixture is geared to getting crowds to games and money in our pockets thanks to the GWS.

But still....

Also Hawthorn is Tasmania is an interesting one

Looks like an easy start to the season with only Hawthorn making the top 8 from our first 8 opponents. However, this means that we have an incredibly tough run home with Carlton, Collingwood, Hawthorn and Geelong taking 4 of the 5 last rounds!

Another go at a Friday night SCG game, hopefully there will better weather and none of those pesky royals decide to get hitched.

Also, what's with the matches starting at 3.15 or 4.40? We play 9 of them. Yuck.

1 GWS Sat 7.20 ANZ
2 Freo Sat 2.10 SCG
3 Port Sat 1.40 AAMI
4 North Sun 3.15 SCG
5 Hawthorn Sun 1.10 Aurora
6 Adelaide Sat 7.40 SCG
7 Richmond Sat 4.40 MCG
8 Melbourne Sat 4.40 SCG
9 St Kilda Sat 4.40 Etihad
10 Bulldogs Sun 3.15 SCG
11 Essendon Sat 7.40 Etihad
12 Bye
13 Geelong Fri 7.50 SCG
14 GWS Sat Sat 7.40 ANZ
15 Brisbane Sat 4.40 SCG
16 West Coast Sun 2.40 Patersons
17 St Kilda Sun 1.10 SCG

Very interesting draw, pretty happy with it though. We should be able to come close to the top at the very least.

We should be aiming to be at least 8-2 after 10 rounds. And we'll need to avoid our regular mid season slump and get to that tough last few weeks in a good position.

I personally think the big news is only one game at the MCG next year...

I hadn't even noticed that. Very interesting. Could take it one of two ways I suppose. Either be happy with it as we have been so rubbish there for the last 5 years or be annoyed as it is where big finals get played and we need to play and win there at some stage.

I agree with the latter.

is 7 televising all matches free to air? they better be. afl website said something about carlton having most free to air matches at 17.

For the Sydney market, the Swans games that SEVEN don't televise they'll relay the FOX feed most likely on 7MATE. This goes for GWS games too.

I kind of like the idea of the tough run home as opposed to spread out or at the start.

There's every chance we could already be in the top 4 going into those games and that might give the boys a bit of belief that we have a genuine shot.

There's also every chance that Geelong or Hawthorn will already have their positions set in stone at that time of year and will be preparing for finals. Might catch one of the 2 on an off day.

nice start, difficult finish. Hopefully we are in a position to be resting players by the end:D. The MCG situation is worrying tho.

Great draw for us.....

If we're contenders, should go into the break 10-1 or 9-2.

An extra game at the SCG.. :thumbsu::D:thumbsu:

Only 1 trip to perth..... :thumbsu:

Only 1 trip to Adelaide against Port... :thumbsu:

One trip to Bris Vs GC... :thumbsu:

Hawthorn at Aurora instead of MCG... :thumbsu:

Only 1 game against Collingwood who own us at the moment.... :thumbsu:

Could of been a lot worse....

Are you sure they don't have to televise Swans/GWS games on their main channel?
They definitely don't have to but whether they will it's yet to be decided. What Ch7 are contractually obligated to show are 4 matches live Fri night, Sat arvo, Sat night and a Sunday match.
