You know the funny thing is that such claims have been made by people from inside Westcoast and from what I’ve seen id tend to agree. Darling is physically well developed for his age and has been for a long while now, so the fact he's the same age as McGovern isn't at all important.

I'm not knocking Darling at all, his football IQ is enormous and he still has plenty of improvement left. McGovern is totally raw, undeveloped and untested. But if I was looking at the core strengths of them as footballers and measuring them id say McGovern is the better mark, he need not play an AFL game and id been ok in saying that. Of course if we played McGovern now he would struggle to have Darlings impact, that goes without saying and im not sure why it needs to be mentioned.

Spaceclef is right, it does have a romantic aspect. Our recruiters and development staff would deserve massive credit if they turn McGovern into a serious AFL footballer.

But I certainly do get kicks out of your base logic though. :thumbsu:

Clearly.

The kid is showing promise don't get me wrong, however I watched Darling take numerous strong marks against WAFL defenders during his time at WP. He's still working on his leg strength from his OP and you can bet he is only going to get stronger in his one on one contests.

Darling has some of the best hands at the club, very sticky.

Yep, in fact if memory serves none of the Jetta's in the AFL currently have been picked up via the rookie draft

Anyway my point is just because they've got a last name of Jetta doesn't mean they can cut it at AFL level
Yeh for sure. I was only talking about Lewis and Graham who both could have been taken dirt cheap. Obviously there's nothing that suggests Graham would make it at AFL level either as his numbers have dropped this year and he's my age (not a spring chook)

That and there was the disproving of Masto's "McGovern's <= 190cm" theory

On further inspection that pic proves nothing. There are too many things not accounted for, whether he is wearing shoes, or if he is standing on something, what angle the photo is taken from and the picture is leaning forward. He could well be about 190 but made to look taller very easily through trick photography.

And this?

Goodness, we still arguing about McGovern's height?

If he's 190 we should delist
If he's 193 I'm putting money on him for Coleman 2013

Should probably get back on topic, though...

I'll be keen to see if the McGovernator can produce similar numbers in closer games; it was a bit of a cakewalk for the Tigers.

That's why I've been impressed by McInnes, he hasn't had it all his way this year but he's been pretty damn consistent and has kept leading hard all year.

  • the measuring poster is stuck to a wall, it cant be at an angle
  • the photo is taken at eye level
  • i doubt mcgovern rocked up to the club for interviews in 7cm boots or high heels.

I liked the "through trick photography", o Masto.

Clearly there is no such thing as trick photography.

So, the WAFL...

Embley and Newman suiting up for Swans against Subi today.

Strijk playing for West Perth against Peel. No Mascoulis, must still be injured.

Smith and Tunbridge playing for Perth against the Royals. McInnes not listed but he might be released late, especially since he didn't get a game last week when he travelled to Adelaide.

Biggest game as far as West Coast's reserves are concerned is Claremont v East Freo. Swift and Stevens to go head to head in the midfield. Stevenson and McGovern also playing for the Tigers and Brennan, Brown, Dalziell and Dick for the Sharks. Weedon out on standby for the Eagles and Neates is still injured. Hamp and Papertalk will face off in the reserves.
