I want to see Butler in the team.

Does anyone else think he could play a role other than back pocket or half back flank, but using the defensive experience of the last few years?

By this I mean, could he potentially play a defensive forward or tagging role? Or is he doomed? He has the cool head and finals experience that are pretty valuable IMO.

I agree re Butler. Him and A Selwood will be in the team come finals, at this stage (pending MC switching on) I see McGinnity and one of Sheppard/Brennan getting squeezed out.

Its unfortunate but I'm really starting to doubt whether we'll see A Smith (again) or Stevenson this year, just too many HBFs

Ashley Smith played for Perth and got 20 possessions. Hopefully to can something he hasn't been able to do the past 9 weeks - play two whole games in a row.

From the looks of the stats, much like when Butler last played for Perth, he played in the midfield.

Koby Stevens got 28 possessions for East Freo.

With A. Selwood & Schofield possibly returning from injury, and Butler, Stevens & Swift in form in the WAFL, it is a good position to be in.

If Dick puts together 3-4 really good games, he creates a good selection headache. I was one who didn't think he'd play AFL this year and in many respects I still don't think he will, but if fit and in form, he is a step above Hams, who is playing his role nicely at the moment.

Dick's form excites me - fully fit he's probably best 22 and adds some real class
He has plenty of experience at the G in front of big crowds as well. For a long time our forward line has been our weakest link, but we are really getting some serious depth up there. I'm with you Larrikin, fully fit he would be in the best 22 and definitely adds some class.

Was at Claremont V Souths today.

If Swift gets in after his effort today its a joke, yes he got 25 possies but no work rate off the ball at all, his handpasses (which made up most of his possies barely found a clear team-mate and was as i expected average.

Saw the end of the Ressies game and Hamp keeps on improving which is great.

They've been experimenting with Schofield lately. Bringing Selwood and Butler in will release him up forward more.

Strange talk about the rookie list, I think McGovern is a real gem.

Strijk has been in good form, honestly he has the attributes for the game at AFL level. Prefer to retain him than Neates if his body is ok.

It's Papertalk actually.

What has his defensive skills been like? Because if he could average these stats in the AFL and combine it with good defensive skills then he would definately be a very valuable member of the team.

THE WEST " REVIEW '

S Butler - One of his sides best with 32 touches and two goals .
B Dalziell - Solid in the reserves coming back from a knee injury with 17 possessions .
B Dick - Two goals in his first senior outing this year . Outstanding pressure .
J McGovern - Didnt get much of the ball but showed significant class .
F McIness - Kept presenting despite poor delivery .
R Neates - Steady four quarter effort with 19 disposals .
C Papertalk - Quiet in the reserves .
A Smith - Questionable disposals and decision making , was not one of his best games .
K Stevens - Great in congestion with 28 disposals . Direct and effective .
L Stevenson - Set early standard with clean rebounding from HB .
A Strijk - Twenty possessions , eight marks and three important goals .
T Swift - Eight kicks and 17 handballs in hard working display .
S Tunbridge - Ten possessions , five marks and five inside 50s in the reserves .
G Weedon - Tackled strongly and provided a physical presence in defence .
A Hamp - Three goals in the reserves .

Very good , Papertalk needs to show a reason to keep him on for another year though . Hamp unfortunately probably struggling to keep on the rookie list also .

As long as he shows good attitude and continues to improve I would keep Papertalk around. Has a long way to go but still only scratching the surface of his ability.
