Was anyone at the game?

I know 29 touches and 5 goals is a great effort no matter who the opponent but I'd be keen to know how much of those stats could be called the product of being on the good side of a thrashing.

Had 10 touches in the first 20 minutes of Q1 , so they say he hasn't the tank yet but to run out the game in the third and last quarters is encouraging and what the MC are looking for in Newman I would think .

Had 12 touches (from memory) to halftime and the Swans were down at that point.

Still respectable. After all a forward in a losing team is always going to get less of it.

Great effort. :thumbsu: I'd like to see him back it up next week and if he does, he may earn a guernsey.

I loved him taking Spaanderman on, from a mark about 40m out in the last, and snapping the goal from about 30, but he won't be able to try that on in the AFL, plus Panda looked like he was running in cement. :D

Hopefully Frase can kick a few. Would be handy if we had a ready made replacement for Kennedy to come in, but i guess we'll have to wait until next year to see him in the side.

He will take some time, i see him as a replacement for Lynch at CHF.

Why not bring him in as the Sub...

Surely McGinnity will be dropped but surely Swift was so far from dropped that it wasnt funny?

The West Review

A Hamp - Started on the bench and had little impact .
S Lycett - Copped a heavy knock in the first quarter and battled .
J McGovern - Useful effort in the ruck and attack .
F McIness - Restricted to 10 possessions and a goal .
R Neates - Flashed in and out of the game .
M Newman - Lively with 29 possessions , 12 marks and five goals .
L Stevenson - Subdued performance from the running HB .
S Tunbridge - Did some good things after starting on the bench .
G Weedon - Nineteen possessions and four marks in the reserves.
B Wilson - Steady in defence .

Newman , close to a game of AFL in the next month !

Other then Newman not a lot of influence , S Tunbridge slowly improving in defence but probably more suited up forward and on current form would not have got a game for GWS at this stage .

McGovern is an interesting player , Im not sure that he would play in the ruck for WCE but leave him in the Goal square for his marking ability could be a chance in the future ,

Dick / Papertalk / Stevens / striijk all play today , only Mascoulis is injured at the moment .

Still confused why we never Rookied Nelson from WP , he is performing better then all our rookies ATM ! .... anyway i DONT UNDERSTAND WHY NOT and leave it at that :o

Yep, I liked Nelson a lot as well, but I guess he's too similar to Priddis, Stevens, Masten and would be 4th or 5th in queue to get a game in the mid.

On yesterday's game, I actually thought Tunbridge was OK. He has a bit of niggle in him, Hansen threatened him at one stage for dropping him off the ball. But he kept going at it, he was outmuscled and out bulked, but he did some good things and was really up against it. :thumbsu:

EDIT: I also meant to add about the forward v defence thing. I remember he said he had never played defence before and the Eagles want to play him there so they'll take the time with his adjustment.

I was impressed with Mcgoverns speeed and attack on the Ball - thought he was going to take a few players out, would be a replacement for Lynch if he can keep improving certaining has the size and mobility.

Swannies I thought the AFL clubs would have learnt a lesson from Barlow but apparently not. Nelson is a kid who has the rare knack of being able to read play which is something that cant be taught. Sure he lacks a half yard of pace, but his kicking is now very good and his endurance has always been very good. Added to that he is an enormously likeable kid who is willing to listen & does his best - extremely teachable.

Will be drafted this year & ultimately will become a good AFL player. IMO is a better prospect going forward than several names currently on WC's list.

Swannies how was Newman yesterday? Did it go his way or did he work hard for it?

I only caught the last quarter of the game on TV on Saturday, but I was impressed by Neates. Ran hard, was clean with his hands and linked up well with his teammates.

Also liked McGovern's attack on the footy. Kid has something about him.

Any Eagles players playing today?

Mitch Brown
Koby Stevens? (was yesterdays travelling emergency)
Dick
Papertalk?
Strijk

Swannies (I have not posted for over a year or so )I am very keen to here more about Newman. What are your thoughts on his potential as an AFL player, what are his strengths and where would his best position be.What does he need to improve at as a player eg Defensive skills.
Go the Black ducks:thumbsu:
