I think you are thinking of Paul Johnson. Kommer is ex-Claremont, if I'm not wrong.

Yeah that's who he was referring to.... RoyalsFan was saying Johnson should still be on an AFL list despite having 3 bites of the cherry already

Maybe, doesn't mean he can't play a role now though. Based on his first half of the season you would have to say he could contribute to a team. I thought he was one of the main reasons, with Handley, why WA was still in with a shot in the state match and he was the main reason EP beat Claremont on Sunday. His mobility and coverage of the ground have improved immensely from when he was a big kid with a 200cm wingspan at Swans and got booed of the ground by Swans supporters. This is not the same player though.;)

Johnson will be 29 next year though, not many would be willing to take a punt on a guy that old.

With Lycett out for a while we should defiantly consider drafting a ruckman around 20-22 range as a rookie from WAFL or even the VFL/SNAFL.

Was thinking similar except draft an 18 year old beanpole and stick him on the rookie list and develop him as the long-term backup and/or competition for Lycett when Cox retires. We still have Lynch who can pinch hit in the ruck if need be and so can McGovern as well

Surely we could at least snag a 20-21 year old who doesnt need quite so much development.
Are there many of those running around in the WAFL ? From what I have read there don't seem to be many young ruckmen coming through at the moment. Even if Johnson is 29, maybe he could be drafted for a season or two, as backup while Lycette (hopefully) develops. After all Geelong had success with Podsiadly, so anything is possible !

Dont agree there , he reads the play very well and is expected to be drafted into the AFL next season plus he is only 20 / 21
He does read the play very well. He also has very good endurance. He's great at one percenters. He's an OK tap ruckman (He wins many but I think Notte gives better direction).

But his skill level is just so low. He can't mark. He's a suspect decision maker. He has no forward ability. His disposal is mediocre.

He was also born in 1988 - he's almost 24.

EDIT: I sound very harsh. I don't mean to be. I like the big fella and he's turned into a real good WAFL footballer, I'm just bewildered that people think he's any more then that.

Johnson is dominating the WAFL. Thank goodness there is no mid-season draft (where the AFL could pillage lower grades) as there are a couple of AFL teams who could do with his services at the moment!

With the Eagles game out of the way before the weekend's even started, it's a great opportunity to go catch some WAFL action on Saturday.

I'm going to make the trek down to Mandurah to watch my Swans take on Peel. Looking forward to seeing Newman in action. Unfortunately with Lycett and Wilson copping serious injuries last week there won't be any other Eagles in action.

Perth play West Perth at Lathlain Park. McInnes, Smith and Tunbridge all named for the Demons, interestingly all have been named in the forward line even though for Smith and Tunbridge that would be a little unusual. Strijk is playing for the Cardies, no Mascoulis again, no idea what the deal is with him.

Sharks play Subi at East Freo Oval. East Freo's side features Koby Stevens onball and Mitch Brown at CHB. Dick and Papertalk are in the reserves again.

Souths host East Perth but there's no West Coast players in either side and I don't particularly like either team anyway:D

Claremont, who are the closest thing we have to a reserves side, play Mount Gravatt in the Foxtel Cup on the Gold Coast as a curtain-raiser to the Suns-Roos match. Couldn't find the team named anywhere so no idea which of Stevenson, Weedon, Neates, McGovern and Hamp will play.

I feel a bit sorry for Wilson. Of course, being in Sydney I don't get to see him play, but it seems that he is consistantly named as one of Peel's best and I had hopes that he might get an AFL game this year. Now he is injured so I doubt that that will happen.

Thanks for the head up - will be sure to watch that game this week (really miss my WAFL fix here in Melbourne - love the local stuff here though).

Is Weedon back in the seniors?
