I think you're thinking of Shannon Motlop; he's the one who was drafted by Geelong and he's still on their list.

Marlon was at Port, and didn't do anything to suggest he'd make it as an AFL player.

Anyone worth their salt as a footy player, when given 10m of space, could stream through the middle and kick goals. He did nothing yesterday to suggest, to me anyway, that he'd make is as an AFL player, unless he was in a team playing GWS all year, who'd give him that room. Just my thoughts, sorry to intrude.

Yes, and I'm saying Newman is not in their class yet, :p missed a fair bit of footy last year with that arm tendon injury.

Tis true, just saying though that if a player recently drafted does tear up pre-season he can still earn a call up in round 1 :p

Looking forward to what Newman can produce though, definitely looks the goods and can't wait for him to get some match fitness up :)

True. However with such depleted forward line stocks (No LeCras or Nicoski on a forward flank, and Strijk unavailable) he would have had a look in. It may have depended on his NAB Cup performance possibly.

Don't remember Garlett being as soft as I saw yesterday, last year Underdog? Or am I seeing things?

I agree. However, he didn't play through the middle as much last year. Pretty sure he played all game in the middle yesterday.

He truly was terrible. Hopefully he can bounce back.

He looks noticeably more solidly built this year I think.

First I've seen of Rudi Riddoch. The kid's huge build wise for his age.

That was the surprise for me, Garlett's solidly built, but this didn't encourage him to use his build. Compare him to Dukes, who's pretty slight, and he throws himself in.

Riddoch I've been keeping an eye on for a couple of years, because someone asked me to ages ago. Huge build, as you say, and not shy about using his physical attributes. Pretty good skills to boot.

A Hamp - Well held in attack . had just 5 possessions .

S Lycett - A Lacklustre display in the ruck and forward line .

M Mascoulis - Does not appear ready for league football .

J McGovern - Took a great early mark . Finished with nine touches and a goal .

R Neates - Hard working support player in attack .

M Newman - Only one touch after quarter time but showed early flashes of class .

S Tunbridge - Serviceable without standing out in defence .

Feeling less confident in Lycett taking over the reins from Cox.

Would like to start seeing some more from him.

Yeah because at 19 if a ruckman isn't dominating then he will never make it...

Was at the match, McGovern smashed packs and did show his contested marking ability. Reminds me a lot of lynch but a lot more agile and with a great kick (low fast motion, always hits a team mate on the chest). Hamp looks a bit awkward to be honest, like he'd be a great small/medium forward but is too tall for it. talented player but hasn't been showing it, needs to put on bulk.

Neates looked good i thought, the high intensity match didn't suit him, struggled a bit with the big bodies. But whenever he managed to find some space to run he did look really good, good line breaker but is average in the contests/stoppages.

Managed to find Stevenson in the stands and had a chat at three quarter time. Reckons he's no chance for round 1, despite his WAFL round 1 match (24 possessions as the isolated man in defence) he thought it was pretty average and he can do better. Seemed a little frustrated at how all these forwards are going down but none of the back men are injured haha

Thank god we delisted JON though, decent stats but picked fights, gave away a ridiculously stupid 50 for not giving the ball back (just held onto it and yelled at the umpire), missed a goal running in 5 meters out no opponent.

Just on JON : Claremont were obviously targeting him as he is known to have a short fuse. I wonder if the MRP will take note of the photograph in this morning's paper showing Morton's fingers in Jarrad's eyes?? I didn't think any Eagles players were particularly impressive. Neates is simply too small and Hamp is simply not good enough.I wish we had found a way to draft young Crozier. He is as skinny as a rabbit but looks like he will be a player.

???

Have I been through some twilight zone or something where Lycett has played 100 games and where expecting him to dominate or are we still in the same universe where he's played 1 AFL game!!?!?

Surely not seriously expecting much more out of him just yet?

Will be interesting how they handle those games for subs. Realistically he hasnt even played a game yet. He played 2 qtrs.

Still, if he's fuse is THAT short i'm glad we never gave him a run, he could have cost us a game.

I found neates to show flashes of class when he got a chance to show his run and carry, but you're right, he is too small and has no business being in packs. Probably has to work on his core strength, in 2010 he average 20 odd possessions and a goal in the wafl so league football is not beyond him. Hamp i thought made good decisions in traffic but every time he came to the bench he looked to be short of breath, even McGovern looked in better shape than him .

I wasn't keeping an eye out for the east perth players, saw his name on the list but tried to spot him and couldn't so i just assumed he wasnt playing :p

it does look ugly but i'm not sure he will cop a huge suspension from it

His stats are poor even in WAFL. I'm not saying he won't make it far from that I'm just concerned that he is struggling in the WAFL for possessions and HO's.
The kid is a beast and should be getting better stats. Surely you wouldn't be confident if he needed to come in if Cox or Naita got injured?

I personally feel he will be a very handy player.

I think he'll be a great player in a few years time.

No I wouldn't be confident of him coming in to AFL level and delivering a high standard, but that doesn't mean I'm concerned about his progress (not saying you're saying this either).

But ruckman ALWAYS take a few years to get going, Cox, Sandilands, Luenberger, McEvoy have all taken a few years to produce much.

I thought he was spending a lot of time deep forward as well which wouldn't help his stats

A rugby union player received 10 weeks for less (this was later overturned).

I think it's quite a blatant eye gouge. 6-10 weeks.
