Re: 2012 Draw

What rubbish, GWS maybe but GC will make big strides next year and should at least double the number of wins they had on this year.

It wouldn't surprise me if that team won less than 3 games next year.

GC is still made up of mostly skinny teenagers (admittedly talented) who physically would need at least 3 full seasons under their belts to compete consistently throughout a season against professional mature bodied athletes.

Re: 2012 Draw

Brisbane is one that comes to mind.

But at least Crazy Vossy can be comforted in his mediocrity by the unshakeable belief that his nostalgic memories of past glories at the Lions will not be disturbed by the Cats being in contention again.

Not happy about having to travel to Perth for round 1 -part of me believed that being the premiers would allow us the privilege of playing first up in Melbourne/Geelong, but I guess I was being greedy

I like one of the reader's comments in the HS regarding the fixture;

Obviously the AFL haven't forgiven Geelong for beating their "little darlings" by sending them to play Freo in WA 1st up. :thumbsu:

Typical AFL, and typical Eddie - they can never find a way or allow the greatest team of the modern era to celebrate the opening of a new season by unfurling the flag in front of a packed home town.

Seriously, when was the last time the Cats had round 1 game at Kardinia Park?

Was way back in 2006 I think. Funnily enough, our first 3 games that season were all at Skilled Stadium. We flogged Brisbane and North in the first two (KK kicked 8 against the Roos), but were flogged by the Hawks in the 3rd.

I think it's a pretty piss poor round 1 fixture. AFL obviously have no interest anymore in showcasing the premiers in round 1 and unvaling the flag. Come to think of it, the only team in the past 5 years to do it in round 1 was Hawthorn (funnily enough against geelong)
To a lesser extent even Collingwood got the shaft last year in that regard by being given a Foxtel game on saturday arvo against Port at Etihad.

At least thats one trip out of the way early.
BTW 2010 v Freo (Round 3, Subi)
2011 v Freo (Round 2, Subi)
2012 v Freo (round 1, Subi)
2012 Pies v No one (Subi)

Cant wait for round 10 v GWS at Symonds **rubs hands together**
I hope we destroy them by a similar margin to the dees game this year

When they could have just dropped in on their way back from Arizona to play rd1.

haha. if they went the long way around the globe on the way back yeah.
i think the AFL would have been s#!+ scared of telling eddie he had to book 5 interstate trips for next season instead of the usual 4 so they left the longest trip out.

Im happy to play Freo over at Subiaco -i like watching top quality football CONTESTS -last 4 or 5 over there have been very entertaining

The tougher the draw the draw the better -preferably i would like us to play Pies Hawks Blues Swans and Eagles twice

There are so many Garbage games in AFL at present -even our home games againsyt Power Melb NM Lions etc -i just tape the game and watch the goals
I think the AFL would be very concerned about all the blowouts -neutrals will turn off

My one wish to the AFL -Please bring back State Of Origin Football -like i say -i like watching Top Quality -not boring Garbage

Nah, I don't want to see state of origin ever again.

I wouldn't mind an all star game though where they pick the 2 teams school yard style live.

we will get shafted with the fixture.
looks like we will have to win another flag to stick it up fat boy Dimietriou again!

Never understood the hate for Demetrio.
Much rather him sailing the murky waters of the last decade than me.

Maybe some dont go sailing? Or maybe it's just that too many think 100k is a obscene and can't fathom 1.8 mil?

Am I right in thinking we always play Freo early in the year over there?
Probably the best time to have an interstate trip really.

Yeah i'm fine with that rd 1,Saturday night at Patersons, what will grind my gears though is if they shaft us with the quick turnround against the Hawks rd2 Friday night.

Hawks dont have a tall back remember. And still didn't fix it in the trade period. We can play them on a 4 day break :D

Hawks game is on Easter Monday, apparently our home game as well. For Round 3, this would mean we most likely play on Sunday arvo in order to avoid a 5 day break (I'm guessing either our first Kardinia home game or a low-key away game in Melbourne).

AFL have ditched the regional challange series

So in the NAB Cup we have:

Round 1: Friday February 24 -Geelong, Sydney, St Kilda @ Etihad Stadium, 6.40pm
Round 2: Friday March 2 - Gold Coast @ Metricon Stadium, 7.40pm
Round 3: Saturday March 10 - Richmond @ Simonds Stadium, 3.10pm

So whats the format now then?

Everyone plays 4 games over three weeks and the top 2 teams play off in the grand final in week 4. All other teams play a practice match on the same weekend.

Week 1 is the same as this year, where you play two games with 20 minute halves. Weeks 2 and 3 are normal games (4 quarters). All games are worth 4 points and percentage will decide the finishing order.

happy with that draw. almost looks like a free run through to the final at this stage.

i'll look forward to going to the first round. have a snooze during the syd/stk match if its in between

It's looking like we're not getting a Symonds game until R4  and what'smore Cook said he was fine with it and that fans traditionally don't pack out early season fixtures.

Well that doesnt help when they are scheduled Port for their first home game 2 years running. I dont agree with him on that one. Give us WB or Rich(like in 09) as watch the fans pack it

Also looks like if you want to see any of the NAB cup next year, barring the final, on TV you'll need FOX.
C7 only broadcasting the final along side FOX.
