2012 fixture

Whilst I love the fact the cats will be coming to Perth twice for the 5th year in a row that's another two big roadtrips for us, why are we always coming over here?

Drinking before midday now for all games at Kardinya Park, as if being a cats fan before 2007 didn't make me a problem drinker already.

I would've thought that most of the Symonds' games would be the early fixture given the light probs we had for overcast days this year likethe melbourne game.
I'd lock in Sat (E) for that one. It might actually come down to the 7 day forecast whether it's 1:10 or 2:10 actually
I found that the Saturday afternoon matches played at KP next season start at 1:45pm.:o
Just realize that if the traditional "early Saturday game" of the final round is scheduled as usual there will be 6 matches played on the Saturday of round 23---no way for 7 and FOX to arrange their broadcast. So I just wonder maybe next year there will still be 3 matches played on Sunday of the final round because we may already have 6 or more teams that are out of the final contention.

1:45 hey. That doesnt bother me too much. Given i live a couple of hours away from Geelong it just means i get home earlier which is good personally. Not sure what that means for everyone else.
3 matches on Sunday of R23 means there's a very very strong chance at least one finals competitor will play on this day. If Cats finish top four again it shouldn't be them. Thats all i really care about

Fairly happy with that draw!

Interesting how the home/away games are spaced out - we have only 5 home games in the first 15 round before we finish the year with 6 of our last 8 games as the home team

Note that the 3 (and possibly 4) Saturday 1:45pm matches we have will be on a *90 minute* delay into channel 7 in Victoria.

We have 16 matches to be shown on 7, tied with Essendon as the teams in which the most matches shown by FTA networks.
But with Essendon and Collingwood almost a lock for RD 23 Friday night game while we play Sydney on a possibly Saturday early game(which will be shown on FOX), Essendon will pip us with 17 and Collingwood level with 16.

Carlton has 17 of there 21 games shown on Channel 7. Will most likely by 18 once round 23 is confirmed as they are playing St.Kilda at Etihad.

Good result for us to get 16 games though.

Haven't had a close look yet, but on face value i'm a little disappointed to see only four games at the MCG and both games against Collingwood occurring on the short back up after an interstate trip.

Here is our Draw showing which game is on Seven or Foxtel. Good to see only 1 interstate game is not on free to air.

Man, I'm going to miss these fixtures when we're down in the bottom eight. 16 free to air games! Plenty of blockbusters, plenty of 7 day breaks. A few more MCG games would be good, but 2 each against Hawthorn and Collingwood is perfect. I like watching footy at Etihad so I don't mind a few more there.

The Geelong games are a bit disappointing, but that will change when all the redevelopments are complete. At least we don't have to unfurl the flag in front of GWS.

North has a dream draw.

Your not wrong, I thought I read some where a while ago that they were trying to make sure no club played GWS and GC twice? Looks like they failed.

Our draw looks pretty good, second year running we start the season against a team coached by Lyon, hopefully he has a more attacking game plan for the freo side.

Nah, it was that no top 8 team would play both of the newly established teams twice.

Is there any financial benefit to playing on Friday Night Footy?

Also, is there any financial benefit to being on 7 rather than Fox?

And, is there any sort of rough idea which (if any) games 7 will be showing live?

I don't like home games at Etihad and especially not against teams who love to play there (St Kilda and Essendon). I would have liked to have seen them both at the MCG. I suppose the travel from Geelong for our supporters on a Friday night is a reasonable consideration, but it feels like those games could be a bit more dangerous than they should be, simply because they're at Etihad.

Having games on Free to Air and Friday night will increase sponsorship and help membership. Brian Cook once said "The increase in free-to-air viewing is a great advantage because our figures say we get one in 10 supporters to become members."

Channel 7 will show Friday Night, Saturday night and Sunday games all live.

Saturday afternoon games will be shown on delay.

I agree with Exhale about playing Collingwood off 2 6 day breaks, although I am confident we can beat them I suspect it will mean a few of our older guys get 'general' that week which means those games won't give us a true indicator of where the two clubs are relative to each other.

More generally though I don't mind the draw too much. Other than the Freo trip and obviously Hawthorn will be a challenge, all the other games between then and the first Collingwood game are quite winnable, which should enable us to bank a fair few wins early even if we're still finding our feet in the season. And then the last 6 weeks are very challenging but that doesn't concern me personnel wise as we'll rotate, and it will prove a very good tune up for finals playing teams that we are likely to play again in the finals.

I don't like playing 5 games at Etihad and would have enjoyed 2 more of those being at the G, although in terms of us winning those games I don't think it will make much difference.

I like for Dawson the fact that 5 of our interstate trips are in the first 10 rounds which means he will have 5 solid games (I'm assuming Otto won't travel as it's likely that will be the setup) to find his feet early which I think will really help him, rather than having to wait til later in the year to get some regular games.

The fixture is what it is. Last year I thought we could be 6 and 6 at halfway. Only 50% out there!

One issue is the flag unfurling is not on free to air. Not that they show alot usually anyway. But you would think it would be - wouldn't you?

True, anytime/anyplace/anybody and all that sort of stuff...but still, it's good to discuss and have a whinge. One thing I will be interested in seeing is how the lack of a second bye affects us. I don't think many could argue that the byes were perfectly placed for us last year.

As for the unfurling of the flag, well...the issue is it will be a game at Geelong and they are currently the games which don't have a lot of widespread (and FTA) appeal.

I'm going to be so sick of Bruuuce by the end of the season.

Ugh.... youre not wrong!!

I was actually looking forward to a new commentary team on fox, but I dont know if I will bother signing up if we only miss a handful of games.

At least 7 are forced to show the matches live - better homes can go suck a fat one!! :D

Me too.
I was a bit surprised the Carlton and Bombers games were at jiihad - I gather the Essendon one is their home game, but would have thought Carlton should be at the MCG.

We face the Bummers around about the same time as last year - lets hope the training load doesnt make us succumb to them again, so we can shut them up once and for all!!

Overall though, not a bad draw. Lot better than last year!!
Two trips to perth are a bit nasty, but with the first being round 1 I doubt they will have a major impact.

Its a shame we didnt put financial losses aside and host the Pies home game at Kardina earlier on for the unfurling..... :D

I don't mind the 6 day breaks so much, it's just that both times we're also coming back from an interstate trip.
Granted, Collingwood have the same issue for the first of the two games, however i'm still a little surprised that the AFL would have us coming off interstate games and short breaks leading into both Grand Final rematches.

They have to try and give other teams a chance of winning.
