A relation of Brett's?

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects

Is Troy Menzel eligible for 2012 draft or is it the one after? By all reports he might turn out better than his brother Daniel.

Menzel is eligible for 2012. So he should be one to follow next season.

Sean Lemmens is a young kid out of Port Adelaide who had a decent year in the U18s, don't imagine he will be heavily talked about but I also don't think he'll be another Rankine. Maybe one to watch, see how he progresses this year.

And as always, Norwood have some more players to watch - Bower, Wallis, Williamson, Luccon.

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects

Jack Martin may be one of the U-17 picks traded by GWS in 2012.

How good is he and what will he be worth?

yeah I forgot about him - have seen him. Very very good.

I dont think it is 5 rounds better but the hype will be huge bc it is the first uncompromised and will have everyone re-engaged which only adds to it. FWIW i think it is a pretty good one based on what I have seen.

Worth remembering though at this stage last year guys like Lewis Hender, Matt Jacquier, Jason Williams had top 20 expectations and didnt go in a draft so things change.

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects

If you had to do a top 6 right now for the 2012 Draft, who would that be?

Things can change quickly, but these are my top 6 right now anyway:

1. Lachie Whitfield - Mid
2. Brodie Grundy - Ruck
3. Mason Shaw - KPP
4. Jake Stringer - Util
5. Dayle Garlett - Mid
6. Matthew Haynes - Util

Dayle Garlett is a high half foward, occasional wingman yet to see him play in the middle, for any significant time.

Very talented kid WCE had him go through there indigenous leadership program last year( its a program that all of WA's best indigenous 15 year old's go through sponored by BHP), and the club was very impressed by him.

He's very quite, leads by example though is a excellent trainer on the track, has a lovely left foot.

He is a geraldton boy, and like Jaeger O'meara will be first pick in the GWS draft.

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects

So what is the main strong point of the 2012 draft people think? key position or midfield type players or both.

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects

Knightmare - where would you rate Jack Viney at this point? Not in your top 6?

Also, has anyone got any ideas on who the 2 x 17 year olds that GWS will trade could be?

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects

Viney and Daniher are two father sons who will be first round selections.

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects

Hey Knightmare are you going to be doing an early 2012 mock draft like I think you said a few months back or wait until later in the year you think?

As much as I like my SA kids, I don't think Grundy will be the one to go that high. First off, it wouldn't surprise if McBean went ahead of him. And there are also some very good midfielders from SA, who I think the two Adelaide teams would prefer.

Garlett is an interesting one. As RE said, he will need to play a lot more in the midfield this year to justify a pick that high. I must say, I prefer Taylor and Simpson though.

Anyway, with absolutely no thought I would go for something like...

1. Lachie Whitfield
2. Jake Stringer
3. Nick Vlastuin
4. Jimmy Toumpass
5. Jonathan O'Rourke
6. Matthew Haynes

With Ben Kennedy, Liam McBean, Rory Atkins and Josh Simpson rounding out the top 10. Very midfield centric, but that's to be expected this far out.

Mids. Allot of outside class in particular.

I didn't include him being a F/S. But I have him top 5 on quality. Jack is an absolute machine. Coach Neeld will love him when he comes along.

Hey Knightmare are you going to be doing an early 2012 mock draft like I think you said a few months back or wait until later in the year you think?

I'd like to get one up by the start of Feb or early Feb if I can.
Just currently doing some alternative research into stats and how it influences winning first.

I have the order in place, just need to get some of the writeups going.

Stringer I also rate the 2nd best talent in the draft after Whitfield, I like the call, but coming off injury unsure just how high he can get which is why I played it safe putting him in at 4 at this stage.

Really interesting you don't rate Grundy. I have him high because of the very strong improvement he has continued to show over the past 2 seasons. Assuming that improvement continues I'd be surprise to see him drop too low. Best ruckman in the draft, but with teams not taking rucks so early, you could be right depending on how this year goes.

My others to fill out my 10: Vlastuin, Simpson, Wines, Yarran (not including: Viney, Daniher who will go F/S who I'd both have top 6)

I don't have Toumpass, O'Rouke, Kennedy, McBean, Atkins quite so high yet. But all well inside my top 25.

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects

Magic's boy?

Magic played 95 games with us; after the Reid brothers, Billie Smedts, Daniel Hannebery and Alex Rance I couldn't handle missing another one.

Poor forward planning by the dogs - we should be mature-age rookying these dads on 90+ games and getting them over the line as Subs!

It is strange that you're a SA boy and not pumping up the tyres of Mayes. I thought he was a good chance to be a high selection and I would not be shocked to see him go in the top 10.

Figured there were only so many SA kids I could talk up without people claiming bias. :p

I do like Mayes, think everyone over here does. I guess I'm just holding off for now, until I see what sort of role he plays this year. I'm interested to see whether he grows enough to be a genuine forward option, or whether he can make a full time move into the midfield.

I rate Jack Viney as the best inside mid, so would go 1 or 2 if not F/S.

The player i look forward to watching is Mayes, he reminds me of ex Hawk Tony Hall. A lovely mover!

Hope Stringer comes back and produces...

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects tassie

Let the over-hyping begin.

It may be strong, but it isn't 5 rounds stronger than another draft, compromised or not, thats ridiculous.

I rate the pool, but I'd be very very surprised if it ends up stronger than 2008.

This.

And no draft will surpass the 08 draft anytime soon.

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects tassie

Actually agree he will get drafted but wouldn't surprise me in a strong draft that he slips to the Jesse Critcton range (late 2nd/early 3rd round). Next years draft is the strongest since 2001 in all likely hood, to be honest there will be players that go in the rookie draft that would be late 1st rounders any other season.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
Wow you have really out done yourself with this one but then again someone who says they see a lot of under 18 footy but then gets caught in a lie and only really reads about it and watches on youtube is likely to come up with something like this.

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects tassie

Jesse Lonergan from Launceston F.C is the AIS 2012 Tasmanian representative. Played senior football as a 17 year old this year and won the State rising star award. First cousin of Sam Lonergan who is on Essendon's list.

Played as an under age Mariner in the U/18 NAB carnival and played very well.

This kid would be a stand out to go 1st or 2nd round next year barring injury. Good sized on ball type player with very good foot & hand skills. He can also take a good overhead mark when needed.

Finds his way through heavy traffic and always uses the ball to his teams advantage.

Had a close look at him in 3 or 4 games last year and i have to say i am not a big fan of how he uses the ball.
