I wouldn't add Stringer personally. He is a bit like Matthew Pavlich, but he is also a midfielder first. And as good as I think he is, his game on the weekend was an anomaly. Never again will he face such a poor defence.

Every draft is a midfielders draft this early on. Most of the early talk is on those who performed the previous year as underaged players, and typically it's easier for a midfielder to do that. But a number of key forwards and key defenders have started to show themselves over the last month, so it's not looking too bad.

Chris, has big joe daniher's dominant display forced you to re-think the order this early? Just how good a player will essendon be getting?

Kym Taylor I think he played for the jets last year would he be any chance of being picked up?

In a nutshell.......no. There are 3-4 from last years Jets alone that would go before him. I don't even know where he's playing this year.

Haha, haven't really had to re-think much. In my thread, I more dropped Daniher down just so I could talk up the likes of Mason Shaw, Josh Simpson, Liam McBean and Laine Wilkins - guys who maybe didn't have quite the profile as others. Have to bump up some of my favourites every now and then.

I'd still have Whitfield and Stringer ahead of him. But he has always been the top rated KPP in this draft.

hey guys i was wondering if someone could tell me a great ball user inside midfielder that would in reality be around hawthorns first round pick which could be anywhere from say pick 13 to 18 depending on where we finish on the ladder of course. Tim Membrey can take a very strong contested mark and is a good kick on either side of the body. He kicked 34 goals for Gippsland Power last season, with bags of 6, 6, 4, 4.

Great player but he is only around 188cm and would have to be looked at as a key forward which may go against him.10 years ago ,he would've been a certainty but the way the game is played now and without any real height for a KPF or leg speed ,wouldn't be suprised if he slipped a fair bit if he gets picked up at all.

Troy Menzel seems like a super option for an attacking midfielder and love the description of the way he plays. Anyone had a chance to have a look at him and perhaps give an indication if he will become a top 10 pick?

I think the Swans may take the best key forward or athletic ruckman available to them at their pick...don't be suprised if they trade their first pick + trade bait for a top 8 pick to get that player.

This year, pick 8 will probably go to the team that finished 13th. I doubt that they would want to downgrade to Sydney's pick (Roughly 20?) and Jesse White. Especially in such a good draft.

I think a lot of trades might be done but not a lot of top end picks will be exchanged..

To much top end talent available, whilst some solid picks seem to be possibly available deep into the second and third rounds.

Hogan would be the number one KPF and go 2-5 in the draft.

I would rate them:

1. Jesse Hogan - He isn't the goal kicker that Shaw and Daniher are but that is because he plays as a true CHF. He is the best KPF IMO, great mark, good kick (though not set shot), athletic, well built strong bodied player. Style - Similar to Jonathan Brown in some ways and also Travis Cloke, good strong contested mark, maybe better at pack marking than Brown is.

2. Joe Daniher - I find it hard to split Daniher and Shaw as prospects, Daniher is a bit more versatile and has more strings to his bow rather than Shaw who is a stay at home FF. Also Daniher probably has more upside and is a bit more athletic. Style - No comparison really comes to mind, possibly a taller better Tyrone Vickery, but they don't play overly similar only positionally, Daniher is a much better forward as a junior.

3. Mason Shaw - Shaw is a very good contested mark, has a big strong frame and can monster opponents on the lead and in a one on one marking contest. Also has a decent set shot for goal, and good hands. Won't get many touches but will kick goals from very few touches. Similar to a shorter better kicking less athletic Kurt Tippett as a forward.

4. Jake Stringer - a fully fit Stringer would be at no. 2 on this list and pushing no. 1. Style wise he is similar to Pavilich very good forward and very good through the middle. Issue is he is not fully fit and 100% on his leg and will he ever be 100%??? He should be a very very good player, very good up forward in a contested situation or on the lead, also very good through the midfield just lacks fitness.

5. Marco Papperone - Plays as a high CHF who pushes up the ground well and will just out work his opponent. Provides a good option coming forward and has great endurance and seems like a good athlete. Marking is solid, not the best contested mark but very good lead up player. Kicking is pretty good too. As far as comparisons go I think Nick Riewoldt, but only outside of the forward 50 and not contested marking, so only as that lead up type player if you somehow understand that.

6. Kristian Jaksch - I think that he is a solid tall propsect, decent at both ends can play as a CHF or CHB. Has a decent mark, good skills and knows what too do as a forward and where to lead. Looks to do everything above average as a KPP, but has no standout abilities. If anything he is average athletically, although not poor by any means.

7. James Stewart - I think he has a fair bit of upside so could be higher on this list, is a good kick and reasonably athletic. Marking is a bit inconsistent and can go missing, but had a reasonable first game for VM. I would like to see him impact the game more, not a big goal kicker, but is a decent prospect. Probably more of a round 2 prospect at this stage.

I also think Tim O'Brien from SA is a decent prospect as a forward, like his marking ability and looks to have a bid body and be quite athletic. Some decent talls this year, but no true high end prospect like Jon Patton last year, each has a few risks and none have that complete game, although Hogan and potentially Stringer possibly do.

According to Emma Quayle 2012 is a good draft but certainly no super draft:

I personally think that the Swans will have a fair crack at Ben Reid their 1st round pick + player as they dont have the best track record with devolping key position players. With the 2nd round pick theyl pick another mid thats ready to play hopefully another Luke Parker type

Absolutely would love B. Reid at the club but we are seriously in need of Mason Shaw type so we have forward structure.
