Re: 2012 Draft Prospects

I don't think Viney will have too much trouble adapting to AFL football and frankly I think he could step in now, play and hold his own but at the same time I do see serious upside in his game and he has the work ethic and dedication to his craft which suggests he won't stop until he develops into an elite midfielder at AFL level.

At u18 level Viney doesn't dominate because of size, he had a playing weight of around 77/78kg this year - so he is solid physically at this stage but no hulk. It's more the mental side where he seems to stands out and where he gets the edge because he has that 20% extra will to win the footy or take the man down in the tackle which seems to be the difference with him. I don't see this agressiveness suddenly leaving him and I think at AFL level it will as at u18 level continue to be a point of difference in his game.

Good call Knightmare. Viney along with Daniher, Hunter and other F/S these boys are fortunate enough to have AFL exposure at an early age so you would expect them to be well ahead of the other's ready to play!!

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects

Glad to see James Stewart made the Side:D

5 potential father-sons in the same side, would almost be a record.

Joe Danniher (Ess)
Lachie Hunter (WB)
James Stewart (Coll)
Jack Viney (Melb)
Luke McDonald (NM, 17*)

and 3 of them are Highly Rated. Could be just about the best Father/Son Class ever

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects

Gun..

Top bloke to boot, gun cricketer as well..

Stingrays again a team to watch out for.

HFF the old Mornington Peninsula connection with you and me strikes again.

Haha no need to tell me about his cricket skills, played school cricket with him and he's an absolute gun. Batted @ 8 somehow, we probably had the strongest school cricket team you'd ever see mind you. But yeah a great talent.

How much will these guys be held back by continuing to play against kids?
Are they physically ahead of the norm 17/18 y.o - Viney would be playing SANFL v men if he was back in SA.

Remember how old some of the prodigous talents were when they first stepped up & played against men.

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects

Whitfield only 69 kgs? Wow he'd want to put 10 kgs by the time he's drafted.

EDIT: Kwality, Viney will be playing in the VFL, while Daniher will most of the time adding bulk and playing a few school and TAC games.

Wouldnt be to concerned with stats quoted. Some are taken from last years TAC lists, some from Vic Country U16 list.
There are at least two who are eight to ten cm taller than listed.

I dunno about that. That'd be bigger than someone like Stephen Hill IMHO and he went pick 3.
This year for us Kavanagh's only 75kg (@185cm), Merrett only 70 (@187cm).

Unlike Hill, Whitfield from what I've read isn't almost exclusively an outside player. He wouldn't want to be any skinnier than Kav is now, but natural growth says he should put on a few kgs this year.

Guys, after mentioning this to a couple of people at the stingrays they reckon thats his U16 measurements. He is more like 184cm 75kg also ran 9.47 3k the other day

I mentioned this a few posts back. This applies to most who were in Vic Country under 16s. The rest are from last years TAC cup lists.

Unlike Hill, Whitfield is 17 years of age. Different players. Different styles. Do different things.
Whitfield at this stage is more an outside version of Swan where he accumulates all day and runs guys off their legs and just can't be tagged out of games because his work rate cannot be matched.

Inside game is a work in progress but the guy just runs. A conditioned AFL player would struggle to run with him. The guy sports a 16+ beep. Endurance and onfield workrate as good as any going around.

Current AFL players already know about Lachie and have made the comments along the lines of: "I'd love to play alongside this guy. Workrate is phenominal. Work ethic great".

On his weight. I also have Whitfield listed at 75kg. So still physically developing, might get up to around 78kg by the end of the year which is more than acceptable.

Will play outside to start with but with work should develop the ability to play inside (professionalism is there so I don't doubt that he is capable of putting on the necessary size and developing those inside skills). - I'd definitely like to see some signs of him doing some of this, this year to get a feel for what he can/can't do right now in this regard.

Re: 2012 Draft Prospects

Breadon............little livewire

Main ones have been mentioned but some of the others i will be tracking include;

Joe Redfern
Clay Cameron
Craig Moller
Adam Carter
Sean Lynch
Joel Madden
Brendan Verrier
Nic Tuddenham
Aaron Jetta
Tim Broomhead
Sam Martyn
Ashlin Brown
Josh Simpson
Jake Neade
Nick Amato
Matt McDonough
James Stewart
Aaron Jetta

Absolutely massive hype around Cameron up here. Really impressed me in a few NEAFL games I caught him at in 2011. He's got the skills to be one of the best KPP out of QLD in a long time. I'd be surprised if he went anywhere but to Suns as a QLD zone pick, though.
