PrevNextThe club has revealed Nicoski, who kicked 41 goals last season, suffered a "severe spasm" in the muscle which damaged the repair.

"He will now consult with the club’s medical staff to determine the next course of surgery," the club said.

"Nicoski is naturally bitterly disappointed with the outcome, but is determined to ensure his recovery is expedited so he can resume playing in the second half of the year."

The club says it had not yet ascertained the expected recuperation time following the second operation.

Nicoski had originally been slated to appear in the second half of the season, but that time frame will now be in doubt

Hrrmmm not happy

Strange as it sounds, I wouldn't have either of LeCras or Nicoski in the 'key injury' category. They hurt for sure, but there are others that are far more important than them.
Disagree.

Lecca is in our best 3 players.

Skill wise, yes. But he isn't as crucial to our structures as the likes of Kennedy, Cox, Glass and Priddis, and even losing people like Scooter or Hurn would hurt the team more. I'm gutted to lose both of them, but I put structures and the gameplan ahead of individuals, and I reckon they are somewhat coverable.

I see what you mean. Sure, LeCras was All Australian and is a sublime talent, but we have players capable of at least substantially filling the void. The injuries I fear most are to our spine. Can we think of anyone that can even approach the importance of Kennedy and Glass?

Yeah that's exactly right. I reckon JK is the most important player to our team just about. As we saw in the NAB Cup grand final, if we don't have that lead up tall, we will effectively fall in a screaming heap. That's also why I'm so glad we've drafted McInnes, and also why I think it's very important that Lycett comes on.

Still, I'd give anything to have Lecca lining up this weekend.

We didn't have a full backline/midfield once last year. Not a single game. Sure, LeCras and Nicoski are big losses, but having our strongest midfield/defense in many a long year is pretty great. Well maybe it could be argued that LeCras is a midfield loss, but I'm trying to be positive so that talk aint welcome around here.

Something we could miss is the 'spark' Nico gave in quite a few matches last year. When we were looking a bit stagnant, it was often he who kicked the first in a run of goals (viz the final against Carlton, Q2). Yes, he was on the receiving end of some serious, rapid clearance work - some of the periods of rapid midfield dominance were awesome last year and I can't wait to see more - but his ability to collect the nut at HF and kick long goals before his opponent could lay a finger on him, and some of the close-in goals off the hard aerial contests of JK etc will need to be matched by Hill and whoever else gets a small forward gig. And yes, then we also have to fill the hole left by the absence of the Frog. Still, an exciting year ahead and there is plenty enough talent for the team to be in charge of its own destiny. Will have to get up at 5am Sunday to watch the first game live, but that will still be a pleasure.

Fully agree. Nico will be badly missed. There is no one who can adequately replace him atm > his pace, zip, agility and endurance is so hard to replace. Those quick-blink-and-you'll-miss-it snaps inside the 20-30 meter mark were invaluable and were often a goal out of nothing. Then next minute, he'd be deep in the back pocket helping out the defence > then there was his raking left foot and his marking strength - he was quite the complete player in 2011. Josh Hill, I think is a better replacement for Lecras. Weedon shows a lot, but he won't be able to do what Nico did last year.
Hope you're back sooner than later Nico.

I agree.

Le cras is a loss however replacing Le Cras with a true crumbing small forward who is good overhead and tackles well could be better for our structure deep forward. Sure Leca attracted a top line defender but he was more of a leading forward than a crumber, we need a good crumber at the feet of Kennedy and Cox / Naitanui when they rest at FF.

Josh Hill looks like a better natural forward than Nicoski and lets be truthfull, up until last season most people wanted Nicoski delisted. Yes, he played a great year last season and he does fire up the younger guys but he is replaceable.

Kennedy, Lynch and Darling are more important for our structure up forward and Lecas replacement may well be better suited for the forward press style.

We will see.

I agree. If only we had Newman fit and available for selection. He would fit in perfectly at the feet of Kennedy Lynch Cox and Naitanui.

Update:

From West Coast Eagle website

http://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/Default.aspx

Mark Lecra: Season ( still makes me sad inside )
Mark Nicoski 12-14 weeks
Andrew Strijk 1-2 weeks

No mention of Brad Dick does that mean he is close to playing WAFL ( could be handy if Hill, Hams or Weedon are out of form)

For some reason WC don't report on the injuries to rookies

McGovern went missing for a lot of last year and wasn't reported on once.
