The 35 tradition is a good one and should be kept, its not about creating a new legacy but forever remembering presti and daicos as the discussion is brought up every year as who the new 35 will be.

Adds to the excitment as we see a new promising 35 every year and immediatly know theres the future

The only problem is that this year our first draft selection is pick 50, so we may not see number 35 on the field next year (unless you go to Vic Park on Sat afternoon).
The idea behind this was to see our new 1st round draft pick (hopefully future champ) running around in the famous number, however we have traded our last 3 years 1st round draft picks (although those trades netted Jolly, Krak, Celgar, Clarke, Elliott).

Numbers in 2012

#1
#3
#9
#15

Who do you guys think will be given these numbers or any players who deserve an upgrade on their number the only players who I think that deserve a number upgrade fasolo. Wouldn't mind seeing

#1 Sharrod Wellingham
#3 Alex Fasolo
#9 Martin Clarke
#15 Jarrod Witts
#21 Peter Yagmoor
#35 Jamie Elliott

Re: Numbers in 2012

Not too sure why Wellingham would get a number change, but pretty keen to know what Fasolo's new number will be, and Witts.

Re: Numbers in 2012

doubt that wellingham will change his number #21 is a premireship number not many players change after winning the big one

Would love Fas to be able to keep the #35, but given that he can't I'd be giving him the #1 for sure.

Witts #3 and Clarke #15 sounds ideal for mine. Witts is going to be an absolute jet, and 15 is the closest thing Clarke could have to his old number.

IMO Fasolo will get #9, otherwise like previously said they will hold it over for Stewart in 2012 as F/S
Don't reckon Witts should get #1, he said on the CTV interview he didn't think he'll be playing much so #15 would be good for him, and maybe get Yagmoor in the #1 to keep the Aboriginal tradition going.
Marty Clarke I think will get #3

No way should marty clark have 18 again he doesnt derseve it at least darren wears it with pride and alex should either keep 35 or get 1 thoiugh i'd like it if he got to keep 35

#1 Witts
#3 Fasolo
#15 Clarke
#33 Yagmoor
#35 Draft pick 50
#38 Elliott
#41 Draft pick 65

#9 held over for Jamie Stewart (2012 draft)

Technically Elliot were our number one pick in this seasons draft especially given that we traded away pick 25 to get Clarke and Elliot to the club. Since Clarke is not a new player the number 35 should go to Elliot.

So based on this I would give the following numbers to:

#1 Witts
#3 Fasolo
#15 Clarke
#33 Yagmoor
#35 Elliott
#38 Draft pick 50
#41 Draft pick 65

Incorrect, which is why Krakouer/Ceglar didn't get 35 last year.

I don't think the intent of the 35 jumper was to give it to a 3rd round picked player who potentially may never make the grade.

What happens if we pick up a mature age player with our first pick in the national draft?

I agree that the original intent was to allocate #35 to our 1st draft pick (which normally would be an 18 yr old 1st round potential talent), however we have traded away our 1st & 2nd round picks in the past 2 years. Therefore the allocation of #35 to pick 50 is correct, however doesn't really fit the original intention. Last year #35 went to pick 45 (Fasolo).
If Collingwood stick by their original statement (we will allocate #35 to our first player chosen in the national draft) then it must go to pick 50.
The other option is to allow Fasolo to keep #35 & abandon the whole idea.
Maybe they should ask the members want they think about #35 (after checking with Daicos & Presti on their thoughts).

You do know Fasolo was a 2nd round pick (pick number 45) after we traded our first pick for Krakouer+Ceglar? That's no different to this year with Clarke+Elliott. The number 35 will go to the first picked form the national draft.

I've got no idea what would happen if we got a mature aged player with our first pick (someone like Luke Ball). At this stage they'd wear 35 for the year unless the club said it goes to a first year player.

I am fully aware that Fasolo was a 2nd round pick and based on what I saw him he was worthy of a 1st round pick and the club knew it at the time when they drafted him, so it is no surprise that he was given the number 35 jumper.

I have serious doubts that we will land a player with pick 50 which will ultimately ruin the credibility of what they’re trying to achieve.

That is the risk. That is why they should allow Fasolo to keep it in 2012 & then pass it to our 1st round pick next year (as we will not be trading it away next year - I hope). They can annouce at AGM that the future allocation of #35 will be to the 1st round pick/who is a first year player (& if the criteria is not met then #35 stays with previous player).
This will ensure that #35 will always go to an 18 year old 1st round pick (which was the original intention).
Or abolish the entire thing.

The no.35 rule was introduced before we drafted Fasolo and we never knew who we were going to get at that pick.

Whoever we pick at 50-odd this year gets the jumper, so what if he doesn't play a match, it's the principle of teaching young players the history of the club...

I'm just pointing out that Elliott is no chance of getting 35 next season and unless it's changed whoever is first picked in the national draft will get it.

Personally I'm not sure I really like the idea of players getting the 35 jumper for 1 season only but that's the way it is.
