If Dal were to leave for money the rest of his career would be fairly short.
If he were to stay on at StKilda the vet list advantages would motivate the Saints to keep him even when his performance is deteriorating.
I could see Dal going OK on a back wing for many more seasons.

It appears Hird and BJ think otherwise, will be interested to see how it pans out.

I thought he was great in there when he finally got a turn this year, and it was only Roo getting injured that saw him push forward.

I don't hold the 2011 performance against any of our mids, it wasn't just BJ that struggled to get a touch.

Ben was eventually dropped by Ross which was probably the right decision though not his fault that he was chucked in the deep end somewhat, and then Ross personally took over the stoppages from Harves as we were so poor.

What mid wouldn't enjoy roving to a combo of Ryder/Bellchambers...

I kind of like when there is subplots to a season, BJ is one of many to make 2013 very interesting.
BJ has the potential to be a great mid IMO. Always has.

That was 2009/2010. What has he done the last 2 years when he was given time in the middle? I rate him more of a Half Back then a Midfield/Forward. My view, have your own.
I suspect the results of 09 and 2010 were quite deflating to both BJ and a few others, given all the hard work they put in to get there. Cut them some slack.

Wasn't overly impressed, not looking to good when you have two dropped (easy) marks in your highlights package!
Hopefully there's a couple KPD that slide into 2nd round.
I have a feeling we're more keen on Corr, anyway, but Sydney, Brisbane and the Bulldogs are apparently all a fair chance to be looking for a "KPD" with the 3 picks right before us and that may be after Plowman and Clurey go even earlier than that!

If we hold everyone up to Lenny, most will fall short.
I'll take that further... Lenny did not play ofr 2011 due to his knee, so he came back totally refreshed. BJ, who single handedly willed himself and his team to within a kick of victory in 2010 is not the only star who had problems firing up in 2011. The more driven the player, the bigger the aftershock usually is. Bad enought o lose 1 GF but to pretty much fall short in 3 GF's in 2 years?

Brendon is a good bloke and has his reasons for leaving, which I respect.

Some people are very harsh on players with their expectations. Unless you have walked in his shoes, you have no right to be critical of any player. Given what the team put in from 2008 to 2010, I reckon they are entitled to a down year. veryone copes differently with adversity. Some (few) shrug it off... others allow it to destroy their career.

Do we still think it's more about loyalty?

I still think it came down to opportunity.

I mean, he expects to be playing 95% as an inside mid at the Dons...we couldn't get him in there until Rd 19.
If that was true then why wouldn't he stay here, given Watters was playing him in his preferred position?

Opportunity schmopportunity

we offered $500k x 3, they offered $730k x 4

For those of you playing at home, that's close to double.

Not necesarrily, if he was still goodish after 3 at StKilda they might have been happy for him to continue on as a HBF with only part of his payment under the cap. But yeah a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

As fare as performance drop after the GF, I'd rate DalSanto's effort pretty high for 2011. Not quite as good in 2012, maybe he's getting old.

the presser with hickey, lee and hyphen was good.

hyphen spoke very well. you can tell he is a very professional and understands exactly what to expect. he will be a very good acquisition for our club, will hit the ground running and will develop better under watters than his time at sydney.

After looking at the combine results I picked out a few that stood out and ranked them roughly in the order they are expected to be drafted:

Tom Clurey 193 cm
Jesse Lonergan 183 cm
Tim O'Brien 194 cm
Spencer White 194 cm
Cameron Banfield 184 cm
Laine Wilkins 183 cm

Does anyone think we'll delist 1 or 2 of Minchington, Shenton or Staley to have 1-2 Rookie Draft Picks? I think Shenton is safe and Watters rates Minchington. So MAYBE Staley may be unlucky? But i think we should keep him longer personally.

the other thing to note from watters presser. he alluded to only using the draft and that you cant fill all the gaps in the list in one draft (after speaking about a KPD).

i am almost certain now that we will not pick a ready made KPD in the draft or get an uncontracted player. we will pick up the 4 best available kids and look to the next off season to get the KPD we want.

as it stands, if we elevate dunell and only pick up 4 people in the draft, then we can select 1 rookie. i think this is the route we will go. most of the talent will be gone once you get to the rookie draft, the only option there would be mature players as insurance.
