the other thing to note from watters presser. he alluded to only using the draft and that you cant fill all the gaps in the list in one draft (after speaking about a KPD).

i am almost certain now that we will not pick a ready made KPD in the draft or get an uncontracted player. we will pick up the 4 best available kids and look to the next off season to get the KPD we want.
Would probably be the smart move, but if a good young KPD is available at one of our picks I still think we should take them. Fisher and Blake aren't getting any younger.

I wonder if we'll take someone like Tanner Smith at 26? Then maybe Jesse Lonergan at Pick 25 in still there. I think we'll draft a young KPD to develop and some believe Smith will be picked up in between 20-40 so probably won't be there at Pick 41. Would be nice for Clurey to land to us at 25/26 but it's unlikely.

i think you're right a best available young KPD + mid for first 2 picks

the presser with hickey, lee and hyphen was good.

hyphen spoke very well. you can tell he is a very professional and understands exactly what to expect. he will be a very good acquisition for our club, will hit the ground running and will develop better under watters than his time at sydney.

hope so, i liked him as a player since i saw him play for sydney one game last year.

When?

He only played this year in the midfield about 2-3 weeks, from Rd 19...

In the traditional sense anyhow.
Goddard lined up in the midfield for most of this season (mostly wing, but also with numerous short spells in the guts), but as you suggested, it was only very late in the year when he played the majority of a couple of games right in the guts/centre and that was when he played his best footy.

I think his improved performances in those games was more to do with having the focus of doing a job on someone (in those cases Boyd and Swan), though, not necessarily the part of the ground he was playing in. I think getting him to focus on someone else, rather than his own performances and output, might have been the key that finally unlocked his form.

Would be pretty happy if Knightmare's current phantom eventuated.
He has us picking up Corr, Wood, Haynes and Close
I reckon I'd just about take that right now, if someone offered it to me. Probably wouldn't need both of Close and Wood though, especially on top of Corr, ideally, so maybe swap one of them for someone else. Maybe Close for Temay, or else Wood for Colquhoun (or else Membrey, who he has going after our first picks now!). I see he now has Graham going at 42 or 43. If he was available we'd probably snap him up at 41, I think (unless we'd gotten Lonergan, or Pongracic, in the 20's).

If the draft panned out as he has it, I'd probably go Corr, Membrey, Graham, Temay and walk out of there extremely happy, Jan. :thumbsu:

Alternatively, if the draft turned out how chris25 has it going, I'd probably take Hrovat, Corr, Wood, Temay and be just as happy.

I see that Snoop Dog has his mock draft up now. His is one that is well worth a read, IMO (although I don't agree with a lot of his draft order) and he was a fan of all of Ross, Newnes, Markworth, Webster and Minchington, last year, so he seems to see things the way those recruiting for us do, if his mock draft of last year is anything to go by.

shit news:
Tippett's fate is set to be decided in December's pre-season draft after today's 1.30pm deadline for uncontracted listed players to nominate for next week's national draft came and went without Tippett registering.
means GWS wont be forced to use one of their first rounders

Wood is described as a Fwd/Util and with Markworth, Sippos, and maybe even Dunnel and Milera coming along I think I'd rather get a mid ( Carter or Banfireld ) or Tanner Smith.

Sorry folks but I am playing catch-up so apologies if Tanner Smith has already been discussed. I just watched his tapes and wasn't all that impressed. His kicking was Jason Daniels like!!! His marking was also sloppy. No thanks. Or am I being harsh given yet another crappy video from Sam Cheeseburger.

If his shutdown work isn't amazing then he doesn't sound like too good a prospect, given he doesn't have many strings to his bow.

I have a feeling that Smith wouldn't be "best available" if we were to grab him in the 20's and I certainly didn't like his double-handed ball drop! Hopefully someone takes him before our first picks.

Nathan Wright is someone we haven't really spoken about here, but he is someone who is widely considered to be pretty much "best available" at around our picks (or slightly earlier). FWIW Knightmare described him yesterday as a "must take", if he happened to be available by our first pick.

Can't really show much of the shut-down stuff, not many people would want to see Tanner stay with his man on double leads. Shut-down defence isn't great to watch, especially in a highlights package.

I think the lack of options in the draft is why we went so hard for Brown. Get the feeling they don't really rate many of the guys that will be available.

Surprise!
Yeah, I think you're right there, K. In a lot of ways, 2013 will be a test, to see whether Watters was right about BJ, or BJ was right about BJ. I HAVE heard (and it could well be a rumour, so hey) that Watters told BJ that he was no longer in the top 15 or something of the team, and that his spot was going to come under pressure by the end of 2013 if he played like he had this year. It was meant to be a "pull your socks up" motivation, and backfired in BJ leaving.

Yep, and that is why BJ was 3rd or 4th in the best and fairest.

Edit: and also offered him 1.5 million plus for three years. Usual for your average player outside the top 15, aye? Also, Riewoldt wanted him to be captain as well - was it purely for reputation from 09/10!?

Which dickhead told you such shit crap?! More importantly, why do listen you listen to such and tell it here instead of throwing it back to such rumourmongers.

Please tone it down - K

That, or alternatively, that most of those available in the draft are still very light and will be a good 2-3 years away from playing good senior level AFL footy in a key position. Or, most likely, I would suggest, a combo of both. I reckon the KPD options that will be available around our picks are likely to be pretty good value though.

Just my personal opinion

1. Plowman
2. Clurey
3. Jaksch (not best pure KPD by long shot but he is a KPD)
4. Aidan Corr
5. Tanner Smith
6. Kamdyn McIntosh
7. Nick Rodda
is there any footage of corr.

also interesting that mcintosh is rated ahead of rodda, given the reports that mcintosh was the third tall in the WA side behind rodda
