Martin and stringer, martin and stringer, martin and stringer......might go to sleep singing that every night between now and the draft/trade week. 2 potential rockstars.

We are so hard, but we lack skill and confidence. We need star power and an alpha dog or 2. Stringer seems to have the package and martin looks special
martin and orourke for mine

Jonathan O’Rourke- 2012 AFL Draft Prospect

Name: Jonathan O’Rourke
Position: Midfielder
Age (by draft day): 18
Height: 183cm
Weight: 75kg
Quick Notes on Jonathan O’Rourke

  • Very quick
  • Plays inside and outside
  • Very high level ball use
  • Attacks the contest
  • Kicks goals
  • Good decision maker
Jonathan O’Rourke in detail

Despite spending most of 2011 out of action due to injury, Jonathan O’Rourke is a player who excites me.
A player without any obvious shortcoming is rare and that is O’Rourke’s strength; he is your man of many talents, he can go win the football inside or stay outside and use their skills to impact the contest.
O’Rourke is a talented athlete with great pace, acceleration and a good leap but it is those attributes combined with his football smarts and competitive instincts that make him one of the most exciting players in the draft.
O’Rourke will go top 5 in this draft and that might be understating how highly most rate O’Rourke.

I agree with you stefoid, because we would be taking a risk with Stringer, and Martin won't play until 2014 (in our new Footscray VFL likely:thumbsu::)), so we need a player that will be able to play silkily through the midfield for 2013. - that player could be O'Rourke.

Note: If we do get Martin, have total faith he would debut in 2014.

To be completely honest, if we get Martin I don't really care who the other pick is. Mayes, O'Rourke, Tyson, Stringer, Grundy, Garlett...they're all pretty damn good. If we don't get Martin, though, I'm still pretty set on Stringer/Mayes (although I could be swayed to replace Mayes with O'Rourke).

Just watched the last quarter of the Haw v Adel prelim.... Awesome game. :thumbsu:

So a big Thank You to Scott Clayton for choosing J. Grant in 2007... Coz it Wouldn't have been the same game today if he had of selected Cyril or Danger. :(
I'm a Geelong boy and danger was always considered an absolute top shelf talent. Was surprised on draft day when we took grant, and still surprised today. Lachie Henderson was the other local boy rated in that draft we overlooked for grant. Henderson would also be a nice piece for our rebuilding squad.

Jonathan O'Rourke and Sam Mayes would probably be the two I'd predict we'd get if Stringer didn't test well at the combine and we couldn't secure Martin, that'd probably be one of the worst case scenarios; that or we get Oliver Wines and Jackson Macrae...ahead of those prior two, eh none of it is really bad since the top ten are all quality

And I do care who else we get (if we get Martin with 6). We desperately need identity, confidence, x-factor, swagger...we need stars. Stringer is my best bet to be that guy at pick 5. Love Mayes. Love him. But I think stringer is worth the risk.

Forget 2013. He could easily look like a bust in 2013 and maybe even again in 2014. But once he gets the miles into his legs across 2 or 3 seasons, I can see him being the best player in the draft.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'll care if we pick up some random guy with the other pick! :p I just meant that I think most of those mentioned are just as likely to become that star as each other. Stringer is probably a cut above from the little bits and pieces I've seen, but factoring in the leg break they're pretty equal in my mind.
Martin/Stringer is still my preference, but if that doesn't happen, as long as who else we get is actually touted as top-end talent, I'll be pretty content.

Macca like most if not all coach would have a simple message he would tell the players, and it's take the game on, take risks, now yes taking the game or taking a risk may back fire, but the reward is always going to be better.

The same can be said For drafting, yes there are some risks in this years draft, but risks need to be taken sometimes.

As for people worring about Martin and hogan not being able to play next year, c'mon we are looking for players to be playing 10-15 years, 2013 isn't a big deal

Hahahahaha a few of us who've had strong opinions will be after new account names no doubt
That reminds me what ever happened to (I think it was) Granblue anyway. Dude was a good poster in these sorts of threads until his meltdown over our selection of Howard. Was sort of right too....

Probably not the perfect thread for this, but is the TAC Cup GF being broadcast? Everywhere I can find says it's on Foxtel but I can't find it. :p

Absolutely LOVE Tom Cutler off the back half, and Kristian Jaksch (sp?) in the forward line. Any more info on these two?

EDIT: And Membrey's an absolute unit.

EDIT: Jay Kennedy-Harris is a really nice crumbing small forward, too.

To our recruiter, Simon Dalrymple
Go and make a name
For yourself
And the club
We would be in heaven
If we had pick One
But five and six are good
We won't forgive if they don't become guns
So lead us not to a wooden spoon
And deliver us The Big One
And cover yourself in glory
For Heaven's sake
Amen
