Does Martin have indigenous heritage because we dont have a great history with these players ..... which is probably due to being so far away from their families. He may be OK in Perth but what would he be like in Melbourne?

It's interesting this boards obsession with picking Stringer. If you go to the Draft and Trading Board, and read Knightmares Mock Draft (if you read this guys work each year, he seriously knows his stuff), he's got Stringer falling to pick 12. He's got us picking up Mayes and Plowman with 5 and 6. Mayes i can understand, but if we use both picks, i'm not sure we'd use pick 6 on a KPD. Knightmare does say that Stringer would be number 1 on talent, but has doubts about his explosiveness since breaking his leg.

We've recruited a lot of other players that have come from interstate and have had no problems so why should we treat others differently just because of their family background.

It will all come down to the draft combine really and will be the difference between him being pick 6 or pick 25

I'm really keen on Dayle Garlett. I think he is worth consideration at pick 6. Kevin Sheehan described him as a Andrew Gaff type and from what I've seen I agree. Ideally we somehow get a pick around pick 10-12 but that seems unlikely especially if Hunter is locked into our 2nd round pick

Simply saying that our history with indigenous players hasnt been great and many of them have struggled due to family issues. Not making a statement .... stating facts.

I'm not sure if this has always been the case but at least now we have someone to mentor and look after the young indigenous players (Brett Goodes).

Ollie Wines is a really impressive young man. I'm convinced he's a better player than Sam Mayes. Just my opinion of course and we have a lot of inside mids, but wow i think he's a real jet.
Tim Membrey seems what we need as well, if we got our hands on a pick from 10-16 he'd be great. He just kicked 4 or 5 in the TAC cup grand final and has come home really hard this year. Jack Darling style presence up forward, and has gotten it done in big games.
They had us taking O rourke and Mayes, i think we'll only have one of those picks though and i seriously hope it's O rourke, Wines, macrae or Tuompas. And i'd go crazy if we got Membrey. This draft pool does seem a bit too good to be taking Stringer, who will take a fair while. It will be so interesting. Can not wait.
Dream scenario: Bulldogs give pick 6 and Tom Williams, GWS give Jack Martin and pick between 10 and 15 (which they should get as part of the deal for the other pick). I'm dreaming a bit there, but Membrey and Wines or O rourke/Macrae.
I know people will disagree because there's a lot of love for Mayes, but in the several games i've watched him in he's just gotten a bit too much ball given to him, haven't been too impressed and as they said in the future stars show, he's a lead up forward. He's just not a mid yet. Hasn't made the transition yet. Should be very interesting.

You say this draft pool is too good to take Stringer because he would take too much time, but you're advocating Martin, who cant even play next season, and would be no guarantee to be ready to play in 2014?
Stringer for mine is too good to pass up, and will come back to bite us in the future if we dont pick him I believe.
Stringer for pick 5 and Jackson Macrae for pick 6 as he looks to be a player that will really compliment our inside mid brigade, looks to be a big game player, several bogs during the TAC finals.

Actually, I would be quite comfortable if we included Tom Williams in a deal to up our ante somewhat. We have several developing defenders and Tom would certainly have some currency, especially if he wanted to get back to his home state.

While I'm hoping for Martin and Garlett I'm not against Mayes, Stringer (if he tests ok), O'Rourke and I'm coming around on Wines

Wines has has a beast like quality to his game (a better skilled version of Clay Smith) but has also drawn some comparisons to Trent Cotchin

I also like Membrey but not with picks 5 & 6

As long as we score Martin I'm open to drafting a bunch on different players with the other pick although I love Dayle Garlett. Also having two indigenous players from WA might be better for each other but maybe I'm just being racist. Anyway they are both game breaking talent

I'm definitely in favour of shopping either Tom Williams or Brian Lake to either get Jack Martin or another first round pick. I'm not saying we should just give them away but if the right deal comes up it could be a double positive
1. We get another young talent
2. Opens up playing time for roughead, talia, roberts, cordy, jones etc

Trading Pick 27 could become even more important so we can get into the 11-20 bracket meaning we can pick up Hunter with a 3rd rounder.

Pick 6 + Player for MD #1 and a pick 20 would be an ideal situation.

In saying that Mayes + O'Rourke sounds so sweet.

Well obviously he is such a talent the dogs would be interested but it is unlikely he drops to 5 and even if he does, we have much greater areas of need (unless Minson leaves via free agency)
One of the phantoms has him going #1, which makes a bit of sense. Grundy would be a really good fit. Giles is 24 and there's rumours about him leaving. Grundy would be ready for round 1.
