We havent interviewed Lee at the draft combine, according to the paper
Something of a shame. Lee seems pretty decent. I suppose though we are confident of getting someone else to play his role? 5&6 for Martin +Anderson seems a bit pricey. I'd much rather we get a pick in there as well.

Does anyone know how international Rookie system work? Can clubs simply offer them contracts or do they have to be picked up in one of the drafts? Excuse the ignorance...
They can just be picked up. They don't count onto the rookie or senior lists either, neither do their payments. It's a matter of having the cash and space to have them train and learn with you. Considering it's not a thing even the really rich consider doing that much I must think there's something more.

Highly doubt Williams will be traded.
pick 27 and Williams on top of our first two picks is way too much.
confident 5 and 6 would get us Anderson, Martin and another pick.
IanW isn't a list manager. Emma Quayle and John Pierik's article yesterday suggested 5 and 6 would likely be worth around anderson martin and pick 9.
What usually happens is people like Emma Quayle do their research and you get an interesting read during the week, and then later in the week afl.com.au puts out a dumbed down, speculative version of the article without any further research.
end of jibber jabber by me now, sorry for that guys
I like Williams a lot and I don't think we'll trade him but in the Kelvin Lay proposed deal I think we are getting too much.

In Emma Q's deal we were getting pick 9, MD pick 1 (Jack Martin) and Jed Anderson for pick 5 and 6 which looks a pretty good deal for us. In KL's deal we are adding pick 27 and Tom Williams for MD pick 2 (Jesse Hogan). That equals massive winners for us.

Kelvin Lay- Welcome to the board. Not a bad suggested trade but I think GWS could probably get a better deal.

SANDRINGHAM 17-year-old Josh Kelly has added another layer of intrigue surrounding the GWS mini-draft with a blazing effort in the 3km time trial at the NAB AFL Draft Combine.

Kelly, who is eligible for the mini-draft designed to help the Giants build their list, ran a time of 9min 48sec, which ranks in the top five in the history of the combine, on the final day of proceedings at Etihad Stadium.

The strong performance came on the back of a 14.6 beep test and repeat sprint time of 24.91sec, which placed him inside the top five runners at the combine in both categories.
Also in top ten for goal kicking. Wouldn't count us out of overlooking Hogan if we get both MD picks (which I still doubt, however).

Lads, lets get real. The opportunity to land a key forward with that size (193cm and maybe a little taller is ample) and that incredible endurance doesn't come along very often. It's the combo of size and endurance that makes a guy like that so dangerous. I have always been in favour of taking both md picks, and this only strengthens that resolve.

If picks 5 and 6 is slight overs for both md picks, there's a clear trade that wil suit both parties in my opinion.

Gws get - pick 5, 6, Markovic
We get - martin, hogan and their 2nd round pick (which they won't use).

We'd then be able to either sit tight and just use 2 high second rounders, hunter and a high 3rd rounder.

Or we could dangle lake and one or both of our second rounders to leap back into the high/mid first round of the draft.

I still have to believe that Carlton come knocking for lake.

Lake, and our 2 second rounders for pick 11 and their second rounder.

Also, do we think the mini draft trades will go down early, or will gws see what happens with Tippett and whether Adelaide acquire a super high pick (and potentially in turn enter the race for martin/hogan)?

Im not too sure whether im against taking either Kelly or Hogan to be honest. I think people here are just worried we will miss out on a player like Stringer if we use both picks on the MD.

Fact of the matter is Hogan a real man child who weighs 97 KG placed top 10 in the 3km time trial & Beep test im not too sure of many big blokes out there are doing those types of numbers since riewoldt

Regarding mini draft, I hope it goes down like this (since it seems a fore gone conclusion we will go for it):

As soon as the trade period opens, we go to GWS and say, "We're very interested in getting in the mini draft. Here's pick 6. We'll give it to you for MD1". They would knock it back at first, obviously. IMO, I can't see them getting a better deal than that (assuming Melb are forced to take Viney).
We'll be kept in the loop of other clubs offers for it, and if none are better than pick 6, we wait until the last day of the trade period, ask GWS if they want to reconsider our pick 6, and then they agree to it.

No paying overs, no complex multi-team deals, no getting dudded.

I prefer this method....

Wbd: Hi gws, we want both mini-draft picks.

Gws: well melbourne have offered pick 4 or mini-draft 1, so we can only offer you mini-draft 2.

Wbd: ok, we're not interested in mini-draft 2 in isolation, so we'll pass altogether. Good luck chatting to port about pick 7.

Gws: hmmm, ok, we really only want 3 picks in the draft and don't want to have to worry about trying to get port, Brisbane, essendon etc to bite and risk landing a pick quite a bit later than 6. How's both md picks for 5 & 6???

Wbd: we'd love your 2nd rounder as well that you won't use.

Gws: throw in Markovic and its a deal.

Wbd: done. Nice doing business with you.

I'd consider (if we want both MD picks) a time-limit approach, so we don't end up bidding aginst ourselves. Something like:

"Here's picks 5 and 6 which we offer in exchange for MD picks 1 and 2 and Jed Anderson. This is our final offer and we need an answer in 48 hours or we are out of here."

Is koby Stevens really any good? Interested in your opinions. What's his ceiling and which current player would you liken him to?

As a dogs fan, I'm really not keen based on what I've see so far (including his junior career).
No he's not.

If I was a Dogs fan I'd say get a mini draft pick (or two), keep to the draft with pick 27 also and don't look at Koby. If you want someone to bridge the gap between the older players and Libba jr and co then Look at free agents or wafl/vfl.

Honest assessment of Stevens from a west coast fan......do......not......want

We haven't come out strongly as a club and told them to beat it have we??? Sensing we might pull the trigger on a lake deal.

Their first pick is pretty low though.
It would need to be a player swap or a player and draft pick. I doubt we'd give Lake away for nothing. (well, I hope there is enough common sense in the Bulldogs camp to work that out)

This is where Clayton used to earn his pay packet, he was the master at negotiation with other clubs. I don't have a lot of faith in Fantasia, hopefully he will leave it to McCarthy, Macca and Dalrymple.

I'd be happy to trade lake for their first rounder. Lake is like 30 and only needed for the short-term. Lake will slot right into their back line and we are only in need for more draft picks

what would you want from our list for MD1+2 + Anderson? 5 + 6 + ?
Thats where it gets difficult - the most obvious "steak knives" is Markovic, and he doesnt balance the deal.

We dont want any of the Dogs' other picks (we have too many as it is). Its possible but unlikely you'd offer a pick you got off Hawthorn. Lake wouldnt fit in GWS, except as a Geriatrics With Scully one-last-year gig.

I'd probably simply counteroffer with MD1 for 6, and then trade MD2 to someone else for a player and a pick (I suspect Hogan would be a great fit at Carlton, for example).
