I would like to see Hille stay on for a few more years but not get games unless one of Ryder, Tbell are injured. He is now a veteran so his cost is far less and helps with attaining those FAs as we have more money. Hes also a preseason specialist, still not overly old old and 23 possess 20 hitouts in his last game isnt too bad. His experience and leadership must also be valued around the club, someone that could certainly work hard with Joe almost as a rucks/tall coach/player. Tbell and Ryder are hardly going to teach him what hardwork is about and neither is any other hack ruckman we pick up.

I'm not usually a wrap for grabbing delistees from other clubs. But Sam Crocker (Saints delistee) seems and interesting prospect. I'll admit that I haven't seen a massive amount of him. But one thing he does is have a brilliant boot on him and I feel there's enough to work with for a rookie spot at least (he was on the saints main list).
Maybe Ant or Yoda (forgot how to tag in posts) can fill me in on weather he's worth it.

If Gus decides to go under free agency does anyone know what draft pick we will get? I believe the AFL will most likely classify Gus as a 1st or 2nd round pick, probably a 2nd round pick.
If he is classified as a 2nd round pick then we receive the very next draft pick after our 2nd round pick.
So if our 2nd pick is 31 then we should get pick 32 provided we don't pick up another free agent.
Is this correct?

There has been some talk about Shane Savage in this thread...looking at his first half tonight he would slot in perfectly with us, but the way he's going it would be tough to lure him across!

I see the following:

Goddard - would fit in perfectly but for $750-800k no thanks...way overs!
Moloney - yes if cheap, would be a band aid fix of sorts until the young kids develop.
Gysberts - yes, reckon he is a victim of Neeld's "no idea" coaching/developing, geez Melbourne stuffed up that years drafting with only Trengove left from all their 1st round picks.
Caddy - yes, but unless he doesn't "nominate us" I'm afraid we will struggle to land him.

I don't know where this idea that clubs just trade in guns comes from. It doesn't happen.

The only way clubs trade successfully is to identify out of favour players or guys who are out of "best sides" who can fill roles needed.

Melbourne is ripe for the raiding because they are stockpiled full of elite junior talent the development of which they have ****** up. A few of these guys also seem to have been ostracized by their coach. Don't get sucked into the idea that they got the drafting wrong because Nic Nat aside no other clubs would have made different decisions.

Don't fall for the trap that Melbourne hasn't stuffed up their drafting - You aren't bottom 5 for six years for no reason - Their recent drafting is close to the standards set by Richmond.

Watters even admitted attributing to Goddards poor form this year. He tried to not let him just be the +1 in defence to get the cheap balls across half back and distribute, He was trying to round him off as a player and get in to do some clearance work, and some other roles. I cant find the link right now but it was printed....

If allowed to play that role he is fine as a player!
And you have given reasons why I would pass on Goddard.

I'd pay "overs" for Goddard. We need quality skills and leadership both on the field and in training for our developing group of players. A proven finals performer, with a top 5 kick in the competition would be just what the doctor ordered. Add in a tough young gun in Caddy and a big body in Moloney and say hello to a premiership in the next 2 years.

I think he is probably worth an end of first round pick not that we would be able to trade him for that but for memory going off the he past bnf finishes the lenght of the deals and the amount of money.

I think we need to add some hard bodies to the side, because based on last nights game, we are a million miles off that kind of footy. Even when comparing to our good form early, we would get flogged.

We need a Goddard/Maloney/ young - finals experienced player.

If chappy doesn't sign at Geelong and we give him 2 years, would be good tough forward for us.

Especially if monfries is out
