wellingham really is a massive dick though. and then there's the 'is he a front runner' thing

Yeah I can't stand him. Any remaining respect I had for him was obliterated by his gutless hit on Simpson- I'd find him hard to like even if he was playing for us.

Obviously we won't want him to do it just yet, but will big Joe end up doing some rucking or always be a forward?

He’ll be a forward, but I highly, highly (highly) doubt you’d ever play two other rucks, plus Daniher. He’d play ruck when the no.1 is resting.

Would take Wellingham, good player, but would be expensive. We won’t land him.

Going for a hail Mary style trade here but are we ruled out of the Travis boak chase?
He fits the bill perfect but how much would be the asking price?
They need a defender if they lose Carlisle, could we persuade them into a Pears+Monfries package? Would we have to give any more than that?

the most interesting name on that list is Tom Fields, who we can still take as a F/S, and it seems has already been invited to draft camp

Think there would be a chance for Fields to be selected under the new rule - That is if he isn't selected in the ND - He can be nominated as a rookie.

I would love this, if only because having him will abolish myers as a kpd talk for good, they are both very similar in terms of stature.

I guess Fields biggest issue is his lack of physicality.

At 192cm, he should be using his size to more advantage, but wins a lot of his ball uncontested or via handball receives, if he improved this from a (at a guess) 85% (uncontested) 15% (contested) to say a 70/30 split then he may be an outside chance.

We had quite a few father/son options who were producing some very good numbers earlier in the season, young Jyson Neagle had a superb patch where he was averaging 3 goals, 12 possessions and a couple of contested marks a game for the Bushrangers, add to that Jordan Williams who seems to be heavily on our radar, and obviously Fields who has just been mentioned and big Joe.

Imagine we picked 3 father son picks this year

Any pickings on the Melbourne skeleton? Apparently have told Jurrah, Maloney, Rivers, Petterd, MacDonald, Dunn, Bate, Bartram, Sellar and Bennell they won’t be discussing new contracts for them for next year until after the season – surely they’re looking to cull them. Also Gysberts apparently attracting trade interest.

I'd definitely be interested in Rivers if we were to offload one of Pears or Hooker, under the proviso that we draft a KPD. Have Rivers as a more than capable KPD to fill the void of Hooker or Pears leaving whilst a draftee KPD builds size and gains experience.

Not sure I'd be interested in any others, they are more Caasey players than Melbourne

Yeah, Rivers and Gysberts are probably the only two that I would enquire about. If we were to trade one of our talented key defenders in pursuit of a midfielder, I think we could certainly do a lot worse than secure Rivers to temporarily hold down a key defensive position. He's only 27, I think - a few good years left in him.

I still reckon Moloney is worth a couple of years - could really help flesh out our midfield.

Jurrah absolutely - too costly in terms of trade though me thinks.

I'd go for any of Moloney (can't believe how quick people are to forget how good he was LAST YEAR), Rivers, Bartram (if cheap; could free up Hocking) and Gysberts.

I suggested Moloney as an option a couple months ago and was howled off the board.

At some point we have to back ourselves in and say our list IS good enough to have a tilt. Two or three years quality service from a reinvigorated Moloney is absolutely something I'd be interested in.

absolutely, on the proviso that we get reinvigorated moloney, and not uninterested doorknob moloney

I wouldn't say I howled you off the board, but I did say I wasn't really interested. You can't doubt the endevour of Moloney (when switched on) and his ball getting ability is good to very good, but I question his disposal. We have enough trouble hitting up targets as it is without getting someone who's mantra is seemingly to belt the ball as long as he can whenever he gets it.

Still, that's the beauty of these forums. You get to see these suggestions from the perspective of a broad cross section of supporters and when it comes to these types of suggestions, they are hypothetical anyway. I don't think any suggestion is necessarily right or wrong.

I guess I'd just prefer Sylvia to Moloney, but both are damaging players who would add experience to the midfield rotation. Imagine if we could secure one of those two via free agency, and then we potentially trade for Caddy. I don't think our midfield would be a worry any longer and we'd be just about ready to challenge. I don't know how realistic that all is though.

Would love Gysberts. Looks a real player

Rivers would be handy also, especially if we trade Pears/Hooker

Gysberts in a heart beat.

He showed the sort of player he was capable of being very early on when Melbourne weren't pathetic.

I'd back us to get the best out of him.

Moloney is a gigantic ****. I don't want him anywhere near my club, despite how good a player he can be. If we got him, the team would be better but the club wouldn't.

Gysberts is supposedly pretty unprofessional, hence why Neeld is happy to get rid of him, and isn't playing him much this year. If TRB got his head right he'd be a ripper pick up as well.
