Hi guys,

With it looking increasingly likely that we are going to lose Brown to St Kilda we need another key back.
Now you have plenty of them (particularly if Hurley is moved back) and two of them are WA boys (Pears and Hooker).
As far as I am aware your backline will consist of Carlisle/Hurley/Fletcher next year.
Would I be correct in saying that both Pears and Hooker are unlikely to both be able to play if Carlisle and Hurley are given precedence as your key backs?
If that is the case one may be interested in moving on.
Now I know most of you really rate Pears.
That's okay, because I'm actually more interested in Hooker.
His 1st half of this year was very good, but he did tail off.
Do you believe that he would be interested in coming home?
What would it cost us to get him from you?
Would Stevens + our 2nd round (pick 38ish) suffice?
Or are you keen to hold on to both Hooker and Pears?
Cheers.

I think Hooker would be move-able, yes.
Personally I'm not into Stevens, but if the club is into him, that deal would be pretty close.
If not him, then a pick around 25-30 outright (I have no clue what picks anyone has now!), or Ash Smith outright.

I don't think our coaches are any where near settled with what our preferred spine looks like. Short of a really good deal (nice try with Stevens + 38 but maybe not quite enough, depending on how much we rate Stevens) we are not going to trade out contract players with very large upsides.

Given that everything continues to go wrong at the same time it is really hard to work out where guys like Hooker and Pears stand. For example, a fit and confident Pears basically removes the need for Hurley to play in defence. The reason even the most ardent supporter of Hurley as a forward wanted him thrown back was that under the pressure of having no midfield assistance there were too many poor-average kicks in the defence with the existing KPDs being exposed physically (for their respective reasons).

If we are confident that we can get Pears back into the sort of form he displayed a few years ago and that Hooker can regain all of his athleticism there is virtually no need for Hurley to be moved from the forward line. Our desire to "shop" Gumby rather than sign him (this could be done at the drop of a hat) may provide an insight into what we expect we can still get out of Pears and Hooker as EFC players.

Would love Ash Smith, but he just re-signed (unless i'm thinking of someone else?)

If the weagles could get their mitts on the saints pick 24(?) for brown, then maybe something like hooker and 48 for stevens and 24?

Pears won't be moving according to his manager, so you'd be looking at Hooker. He'd be a good fit at WCE, he's different to all of Schoey (the good Schoey;)), EMac and Glass and would play closer to his 2009-first half of 2012 form at a team with such a solid defensive mindset as WCE.

38+Stevens doesn't do it for me because I think Stevens is rubbish, but it mightn't be too far off if Dodoro, Hird and co rate Stevens as being worth somewhere around 32-40.

latest from the fantasy world that is twitter

  • Adelaide will look to add another tall after they complete the tippett deal, pears a priority
  • Paul Bower has apparently fielded calls from 4 clubs (essendon included) :eek:o_O:(
  • Essendon into a number of young, unnamed midfielders (bell, stevens and mystery others)
  • One page saying that 48 for Stevens has been agreed to.
  • Melbourne have real interest in Gumby, waiting to see what happens with dawes.
  • Terry Wallace likes to say 'locked and loaded'

Terry Wallace going to give his assessment of Essendon's list today on TWR. Last time he suggested we delist Hardingham - who are we going for this week?

I'm guessing he'll suggest delisting Hocking.

i love plough's 'forensic analysis' it's good for a rofl or 7.
yesterday he said the blues need a key forward.

i was like :thumbsu:

It was kinda shambolic for someone in the media, but I kinda dig the fact that Derm blankly admitted during a Port game last year that "I don't know who these people are."

If only more people in the media would make that concession. Or, crazier still, actually learn.

"yeah look i think ben howlett might be in trouble with the acquisition of brendon goddard."

Dermie is good except when discussing:

1. Hawthorn; and
2. the really big key forwards.

My god he has a case of small mans' syndrome knowing that he wouldn't be considered a KPF in the modern game.

Ash Smith signed on again this year, don't think he's going anywhere.

Is Stevens-Hooker direct swap fair?

Didn't think so.

I would be genuinely pissed off with that. He’s basically our no. 1 key back (along with Carlisle). To lose him for a small, unskilled plodder like Stevens would be disastrous.

Small? That's a laughable call, he's a very well built and pretty tall mid. He's also not unskilled, contrary to popular (online) opinion. Has a big boot on him and has a reasonable kick. It's not a massive weakness to his game.

needs more beef for mine.
Hooker is contracted, you'd have to come up with something better to pry him loose.
Stevens + 38 is alot closer to the mark, but i feel like we'd want an established talent, or conversely a draft pick in the 20's
