It wouldn't come to that but yeah, I wouldn't bend over and take pick 97 or whatever you're suggesting.

The fact he hasn't signed, the fact he has been medically tested suggests he isn't opposed to the idea of moving home. He may possibly move home and you wouldn't care if we got nothing for him?

Agreed, would not touch Surjan or Salopek...
Would take Jacobs cheap and would rookie list rodan...In place of Lonergan...

A known fact is paying overs in trading. I would not be giving up a second round pick for an unproven, remotely promising player in Jacobs. I wouldnt take Rodan either. Would be trying to develop our own young midfielders. Do people forget we have Kav, Merret, Ross, Colyer, Melksham, Davis, O'Brien even on our list?

That's clearly exactly what I said. Well done.

Re potential drafting of Gysberts, Jacobs or Stevens.

I don't know why everyone is so frightened to depart with decent picks for these guys. Given that none of these players have been exposed to AFL level in a way that we could definitely write them off surely are as young and exciting prospect as the guys we would bring in this year.

What if they guys we take are Colyer or Merrett (being guys we wont see a return from for years)?

All I see is advantages, especially since they are all slightly older and more physically mature than 2013 draftees and are still potentially 10 year prospects.

If we rated these players as anything near the point at which they were drafted in the years they were taken I'd use every pick we have and basically exclude ourselves from the draft without hesitation and look to try to add value with Reimers and others that are currently out of favour. Given the way we have developed players in the last few years I'd back us to unlock the potential in these types. We could end up pinching a few real bargains too.

Yes...but it can work the other way too. Personally Gysberts worries me as he is still as skinny as a beanpole, and lets not forget he has had 3 years...will his body ever be fit for AFL football? You are spending a lot on a question mark at best. Jacobs at least has the body, or will have the body, and Stevens more so. I would be happy with Jacobs and Stevens, but not all 3. Lets not forget this is a GUN draft for midfielders!

It's not a super draft, but I don't know why'd you trade out of it - unless you're getting something guaranteed.

Too many question marks over Jacobs, Stevens and Gysberts. At least we know the likes of Rodan can play, and you'd be able to pick them with a very low pick.

Agreed i think one reason and only reason for this is perception, players that have been in the league that have struggle to get a game or have performed poorly then have that wrap on them. Where a bright new draftee does not have this.

But it has to go both ways and when you look to trade in a player that hasn't been getting regular games i think you have to do a lot of homework on them. Because these are the ones that can become coach killers.
Why aren't they getting a game? Injury, To small, Developing a tank, Elite senior players holding them out, disposal, developing in a new position.
Next thing, what our they going to cost and who will they push out or hopefully push out. I think this is the big thing with these 3 players mentioned. I can't see Stevens or gysberts pushing anybody body out or being a massive upgrade on any players, so they would have to come cheap(Jacobs i can't comment on).

Really drafting and trading isn't a science and it goes both ways but i just can't see the point in bringing in average players that aren't filling a role or are being bought in due to a lack of depth, something imo none of this guys bring to the table.

I don't believe the pacemaker is in question. I would've thought he would not be getting a pacemaker if he were to continue with AFL footy, given risks with contact sport. He would have to build up his fitness working with the limitations he has (which I'm guessing is on the more mild end of the scale for that condition given he's got as far as he has in sport).

According to GCFC the condition hasn't limited his AFL performance after-all, so it must have been very, very mild. Apparently just needs a decent per-season under his belt. Worked up over nothing! o_O

Ive just had to check the sarcasm meter. People arnt honestly suggesting Salopek, Surjan and Rodan are they. Delisted injury prone players that have struggled at SANFL level this year aswell?

Surjan would get a game ahead of Hardingham and take him out of the team? have you gone mad?. One they play different roles and two Surjan is now shit and injury prone. Im also not sure if Hardingham is in our best team next year with the addition of Goddard and maybe someone else moving down back.

Replacing Lonergan with Rodan and putting him on the rookie list? really is it worth it. Will we get any gain from it apart from telling our players we are happy to get rid of you for some delisted injury prone player from port.

Currently Hardingham is our best shut down small defender, he definitely has a spot in our 22 for now.

And our picks start at what, 32? I hope we get Liam McBean...

Dunno about anyone else, but we've just lost mcveigh and slattery, so surjan for free (which he is now) isn't really the worst thing we could do, at best he's one of the best shutdown smalls in the game. At worst he's great depth and a decent person to lead out the 2s.

Much better addition than Rodan for mine

Slattery and mcveigh hardly played a game and with hibberd, hardingham, browne, heppell, goddard and i might even add in ross, davis and whoever we draft i can't see a need for Surjan

Luke Parker went lower, so did Swan....you have to TRY and find these elite midfielders, rather than plugging holes with B graders at best

Rodan?-great dancer..finished as a league player.

Goddard won't be a defender at Essendon, and Heppell will.start his move into the midfield next year, therefore can't be classed as a defender either...
