Please cut / trade / delist any players incapable of putting on weight
Dustin Fletcher?

If the rumours of Cook leaving are true I'd be pretty disappointed. Best case scenario, it's all media beat up, Neeld is happy with his work ethic and he just needs some time. Mid-range scenario - He's got some talent, but lacks the will/desire to succeed at AFL level. We float him on the trade table and get something of value in return. Worst case scenario - Same as above, except no other clubs are willing to take him on as a prospect. We delist him, get nothing in return and another two years have been wasted waiting for a high-draft pick with potential to magically blossom into the next Carey/Ablett/Judd etc.

I don't see the value in delisting him. Along with those that have already departed there are enough other players that have been given opportunities at senior level and been found wanting (Bate, Bennell, Morton et al) to free up the necessary list space for a major overhaul. Put Cook on Bartram's diet, move him in with Misso then have him follow Grimes and Jonesy every day to see just how much hard work is needed to prosper in this business.

they won't delist cook...
sorry let me change that... they won't delist or trade cook. u dont get rid of potential before u give him a chance. i reckon they'll give him a good run in the NAB cup next year and hopefully should get a chance at senior footy, then if he doesnt perform he's gone

Yeah i can fondly remember Carey, Ablett and Judd struggling to get a kick for their teams thirds side like Cook. And what are these talents that Cook supposedly has, and how do they translate to AFL level?

The fact that he was an early draft pick should have no bearing on whether he stays or goes. Recruitment in an inexact science, so you base your list management on performance, not on where they were initially drafted.

If a trade can't be done, delist.

That's the way I see it now. We wait and wait for these guys to blossom, but so often they never ever do

I like the fact Neeld seems to have an approach of making early calls.

I waited a decade for Johnstone to blossom (consistently), we've been waiting years for Sylvia to blossom (consistently), we all thought Brad Miller was going to come good.

I'm happy he'll judge and move them on. I would prefer 2 years of development going in to a player who will make a difference to our list as opposed to 2 years of development of someone who probably wont make it

He doesnt even get a run in the casey seniors, why would they let him have a go in the nab cup.

Here is some info I have come across that may be of interest:

Lynden Dunn will be offered a new 2 year deal.

Steph Martin will be traded, he wants to go and Neeld doesn't want him. Collingwood extremely keen to get him in the 'Leigh Brown' role.

Bate and Bennell to be delisted.

Petterd to be offered for trade with a couple of interested parties including the GC, but will be delisted if nothing is offered. He missed a recovery session after a Casey game a couple of weeks ago but his cards were marked over a month ago due to poor attitude and Neeld not liking him.

This same source may have confirmed last week that Cook would be delisted so I have no reason to doubt any of it. It's nothing ground breaking but interesting about Martin and Dunn. Anyway lads, all the best!

My opinion is similar, I just hope that the players are given the opportunity to develop under an elite program like the one Neeld and Misson are preaching.
We obviously drafted these players like Cook because they showed some talent or potential. These players have not developed as we have hoped, presumably from a lack of understanding (and more importantly direction) of just how much work is required to make it at the elite level. Now that we have a system in place that is comparable with the leagues heavy hitters players with talent AND desire should be given a chance to get on board and prove that they were more than a handy junior player.
Don't get me wrong, if they haven't shown a desire to work hard and earn their place then they deserve to be unceremoniously booted. As you say, Neeld will make his judgements and I trust that he will sort out the wheat from the chaff. He is in the best position to determine whether Cook is a Nathan Ablett or a Tom Hawkins. For our sake, let's hope it's the latter.

Jack Darling would be handy right about now.

Not all that sad to see Martin go, i dont see how he fits in our best 22 with Jamar Clark and Sellar playing a backline role with potential to chop out in the ruck, if we get something reasonable from magpie land for him i wont mind.

Watch Martin start absolutely killing it at the Pies. It's gonna hurt.

Dawes for martin?lol

I'd prefer Dawes to be honest

Dawes, whilst form has been ordinary this year, is a pure forward. We need this more than a part time relief ruck

Stef on the other hand, is capable of doing the amazing, yet doesn't seem to do it often enough. Additionally, he's prone to massive brain fades and has never settled on a position.

His best position was clearly ruck when Jamar went down, however, hasn't been able to replicate that form for various reasons.

He's not a forward. His marking / disposal isn't up to scratch for that. And I don't know if we can carry a full time relief ruck like Martin.

I'd rather Jamar in the ruck, with Sellar / Clark pinch hitting, Gawn and Spencer and Fitz are depth / relief rucks

Stef's best looks great. However, we haven't seen it consistently enough

I'd be happy to keep a bloke like Stef, but if the trade was good, I wouldn't be unhappy

Interesting stuff about Martin. I wonder what Collingwood would trade for him?

I did have a random thought in bed last night that Spencer could be traded to Brisbane, who have a shortage of ruckmen... Not that I really want him to go after what he's shown in the back half of the year, but he is a Queenslander too. With Martin apparently leaving I'd rather keep the Spencil I guess.

Their first rounder. They don't really need to stock up with kids at the moment. Would be pick 20ish~ depending on how the finals play out. I'd be... ok with that.

We dont really need to stock up on kids either. Neeld should know a bit about the younger mids worth pursuing on Collingwoods list.

Will we draft Grundy if Stef goes?

That's the question.
Please no. I know that Nic Nat has been a freak, but why would you waste a high draft pick on a ruckman. As a sample, here are the no.1 ruckman at the top 8 teams:

Hale - Traded in as 2nd or 3rd preference ruckman at former club
Jacobs - See above
Jolly - See above
Mumford - See above
Cox - Rookie pick
West - pick 31 draft
Sandilands - Rookie pick
Goldstein - pick 37 draft

You can add Jamar, Maric, Giles, Minson, Redden, Hudson to the above.

Have you seen Grundy play?
I don't care how he plays. He's probably got the same wraps as Josh Fraser had as a junior.

It's going to take him 3-5 years before he's physically able to withstand the rigours of being a ruckman, and you still won't know whether he'll be a gun. Look how injury prone Kreuzer and Leuenberger have been.

Way to much of a gamble to spend a high pick on someone so tall.
