Review 2012 List Management Thread

Season is now officially over for us - I made this thread last year, doing it again this year. Simple collection of finalised departures, draft picks and arrivals. Nobody goes on the list until there's at least an official club statement, no rumours. Draft order taken from the current order listing on the D&T board, correct me if I'm wrong.

Nice work Rabbit. :thumbsu::thumbsu: Good to have all this in one easy to find place over the next couple of months to keep my crows footy fix happening.
Can see where Amer's coming from, but about an hour after the game I started thinking about who is going to get the chop, is Tip going to walk, will Knighta go and to where?
How good is Crouch going to be next year, who do we draft?
So I guess I'm soulless as well.;)

Pick #58:

Good thread, I have our picks (at this stage) at 19, 40 and 59. In between our first and second round picks, the other 17 teams all have picks obviously and there are 3 activated compensation picks by GWS (Davis, ontraded by Adelaide, pick 20), Brisbane (Rischitelli, pick 23) and Richmond (Krakouer, ontraded by Port, pick 29).

It's up to you of course, but I wonder if it's worth having a full draft order somewhere in this thread for say, the first 3 rounds, so that when trades are being discussed over the next month or so we know what each team has, and it can be updated as the trades go through. I'm happy to do this if you're not keen to.

I tried a draft order last year and got it horribly wrong :thumbsu:

I'll see if I can do better this year, but I'm going to be working from the sticky in the D&T thread as a base. You can give me a hand with the later rounds if you like, I'm not around all of the extra picks it seems!

It's perfect as is mate, good stuff :thumbsu:

It will be a difficult month to keep track of the draft order - besides flying around in trades there will also be extra free agency compensation picks awarded, and then in November some teams might activate new GWS compensation picks. Good luck!

Most interesting thing about that is that there was no similar announcement on Tambling...

Hmm, I guess we either have plans for him next year, or we did in fact sign him to a new 3 year contract rather than taking over the one he had at Richmond.

Not sure if this is the appropriate thread, but could someone please clarify for me the Brad Crouch situation and what we need to do to get him on to our list ?
- we have to have minimum 3 changes/picks to our list
- is Crouch one of these 3 ? i.e. does he take up a DP, similar to a rookie upgrade ? (so we only have 2 "live" picks)
- or is it 3 picks + Crouch ?

Three plus Crouch, though we also get to play about with the Veterans list as Doughty departs, while Rutten and Johncock are able to go on it.
And Reilly, should Johncock decide to retire.
So we still need to move on at least one player before the draft.
Technically no, we've now met the AFL's minimum conditions. By elevating two players to the veteran list and delisting Knights and Symes we have already created the 4x list positions required.

Trade week should be interesting. I tip one trade out of left field that no-one predicted. We have plenty of 'servicable' players that are on the road to development teams like Melbourne or perhaps even Brisbane might be in need of such a player that don't have the time it takes to fully develop a rookie.

It will be interesting to see how it unfolds. With a youngish list, and the core of the team set for the future it would be wise to stock up on rookies that will take 2 or 3 years to break into the side. By then Rutten, Johncock and perhaps Reilly may be retired or about to.

How brutal will we be? Sanderson has now been here for 12 months. He's seen people train, he's seen people play. Selections seemed geared towards having a look at everybody.

Was this in order to make a decision on them? Or moreso to keep those outside the 22 upbeat and interested?

I've gone below with what the harshest decisions would be. Reality is that the cuts won't be this deep but thought I'd start somewhere.

Delistings/Retirements
Knight - gone
Symes - gone
Doughty - gone
Callinan - very interesting one. Was excellent through the minor round, though slightly down against some of the better teams. Then didn't get much of it in finals. Will sound very harsh but I think that's it. He was the "Stuey Dew" pick for us. A mature ager to be the icing on the cake.
Johncock - another interesting one. Fell out of favour and was squeezed into a new role. Was often the sub. The end can come quickly, especially for those who are not fanatical with their training and preparation.
Tambling - surely that's it. Hope he's not contracted for next season.
Rutten - looked to be battling in the latter part of the season (Sellar!) but then put in an excellent finals series. Has he got another one in the tank or was the finals series his last hurrah? Injuries catch up quick, especially with the heavier bodies - more weight going through knees, ankles, feet... adds up.

I love a lot of these guys but none are prime movers and a lot of them didn't command automatic first 22 spots. Surely some players on this list would have currency? Could our first rounder and one of these guys get us a look at the Top 10? Perhaps not. But seeing as spots 18-30 on our list are so even there will surely be some movement from within this group - both at the behest of the player and also club initiated.
