Sorry Sandy, that's the only answer we got. Next year the rucks will have 3 pre-seasons in them. Throw in Dixon too, and that's our ruck division for next year. Love it or hate it.

Excellent...another year of getting towelled up by any old mature bodied ruck and getting smashed at stoppages.
Not to mention totally destroying the confidence of our young ruck division
I'm excited :thumbsu:

No way I'm bagging any of them..they are all major talents being ground down by performing a job they';re not yet capable of
I love Hickey..one of my favourites
Knows the meaning of hard work on the ground

I took your previous post as having a go at our ruck division, My apologies.

I still think it's a shame that we are getting rid of Fraiser, He's supposed to be our guiding light for the Youngins.

I don't think we're getting rid of him as much as he is wanting to retire. By the sounds of it, he thinks it's time. When a player makes that call, can't really force to keep him around.

I'm a big Hickey fan. He blew up just before half time against the Eagles, but kept moving around. He's been a real shining light, but I'm genuinely concerned that we're going to run him right into the ground, and he'll end up injured. Really hope that doesn't happen. We were building him up to be a solid ruck option in a couple of years. I think it's a surprise to even the Coaches that he's come on this quick.

Which is good. This time last year he was still struggling to impact at NEAFL level. Now he's making a solid impact at AFL level.

exactly my point Sunny...we have these great young ruckmen who are being lit up by 26yo AFL ruck journeymen

I've heard it both ways, I'm thinking of it as Josh being told to retire or we are going to de-list you anyway.

Hickey quickly has become my 2nd favourite player just for the simple fact that he plays with heart... and maybe because I was getting sick of Zac Smith be a bit of a clutz.

I would be surprised to see Smith play again this year, unless Dixon or Hickey get injured. Just needs a solid amount of time in the 2s to get his act together. We know how good a player he can be, but just a shadow of what he was last year. With Hickey going all out at it and Dixon able to pinch hit, that's all we need.

As far as the rucks go, there's no point playing Fraser. The young blokes we've got are all talented. Stick with them. We just need to share the load between them a bit better. The injuries to Gorringe & Dixon have thrown a spanner in the works this year. If they're both fit next year & Hickey & Smith are too, they really should share the load between them all. We shouldn't be running one into the ground before giving the next guy a run. Josh Hall seems to be progressing well too, so he's a chance to be upgraded to the senior list. I doubt Nicholls will be kept on.

Minson is probably good enough to keep the gig for 3+ years. And will cost reasonable coin, since he's a #1 ruck already. Not what you want, IMHO.

Should try and find another guy in Fraser's situation.
You've got 3 pretty good talents, who should come through - whether it's this year, next year or the one after.
What you want in the meantime is someone to take a few hits, take a bit of heat out of the game, but not completely hold back their progress.

Clubs have got good value out of coaxing those last 10-15 games out of old claggers experienced ruckmen - Hudson @ Lions; Brogan @ GWS, Fraser for you these last 2 years.
Not sure who's going to be out there that will be dirt cheap, but always seems to be at least one.

This is the dilemma
Our ruck stocks are strong, but need protection from "an old clagger" for a couple of years
You couldn't chase say a MacIntosh or Minson, because they will expect game time for the next 3-4 years , and our rucks should start playing to expectations within a couple
As you say, they'd want good money too
I really don't understand the management of Josh Fraser..it's like they expected him to be a Cox,.
I would have just played him into the ground rotating the younger guys around him
You have to wonder whetehr Smith's drop=off in form was related to Fraser having less gametime

Would Minson really be on such big money? The Bulldogs were trying to offload him last year and he was playing second fiddle to Ben Hudson. The Bulldogs expect Cordy and Roughhead to take over the ruck so Minson would end up simply being backup to those guys. Add in the fact he qualifies for free agency. Also add in that Minson may perceive the club didn't stand by him when the Pearce incident happened and he may well be happy to leave for whatever came along. I hear GWS are interested and i think we should look at him too as he would provide some much wanted muscle.

I'd believe that he had been told that he wont get another contract. If he isn't making the seniors anymore then hang up the boots.

Anyone would think you live with 2 hardcore Fraser fans . . . :p

Haha - Is V shattered at the Fraser announcement. Who is it gonna be in 2013? Hickey?
It's been pretty obvious for awhile now so I don't think so.

Considering that out of the 3 of us, 2 are injured for the year and one is in the Reserves when it comes to our favourite players so it better not be Hickey.

Early word is Sexton or Flash but don't quote me on that.

Just remind me again how Zorko got to the Lions?
He is not a first round draft pick, therefore he is no good:rolleyes: . I am starting to think that the club's ultimate goal is to have a team full of first round draft picks. I wouldn't be surprised if our better players Iles and Stanley get delisted when their contracts end because they don't fit the criteria.

Well it is not working a treat now with all the first round picks and young stars. Yeah maybe they may lose Isles and Bull but will that make them a better team ? Not likely. Can they honestly afford to wait years to get better because by then there will have no supporters left. The whole competition are screaming that GC need more experienced players and bigger bodies but GC not listening. Isles and Stanley could be casualties but they have carried the team this year. GWS look much better than us because they have gone with bigger bodies and experience but if that is the GC's future plan then there is nothing anyone can do but watch and wait.

Sexton would be a good one to jump on board early. Kids got class.

Flash could be a smokey at being delisted at seasons end. I hope not, I think he will come along nicely.

Tell V to get on the Henry Schade train. Then she can say she loved him before anyone else. Sure it's only a 10% chance of paying off, but the reward is there :p

Just don't do a Garreth and get on the "Lewis Moss for 2015 Brownlow medal" bandwagon. I think that one has lost it's wheels!

Stanley was actually a 1st round pick haha. Went top 20 to Collingwood same year as Pendles...
