There is simply no way he can get to Essendon based on what they can offer and what we want through a one on one. At least one more club would have to be involved. They dont have the picks or arent willing to give up the player, which is fair enough on their end. A fringe backman and a second rounder isnt enough.

Not to mention with your squeeze for list spots Suns are not going to want a pick in the 40's (which Essendon's second rounder will probably be) plus a player. You will want one piece, be it either one player, or one pick in the top 20, or a compo pick that can be banked. I can't see how Essendon will have any of those to give.

Please, we would've been shafted if we gave you Hooker + 19 for Caddy.

I find it quite ironic that GC Suns will reportedly be looking for a KPD in exchange for Caddy.

In hindsight, GC should have taken Hooker + 19.

Are you sure about the Hooker AND 19 or is this another Essendon lie, like the boys father was terminal to try and force a result. My understanding is it was No19 and then in the dying seconds when we wouldn't be bent over by the self appointed GOD of the AFL (Essendon) a PLAYER not Hooker was added not Hooker and 19.

Clayton stipulated at the start of the discussions that a top 10 draft pick was the only thing we would deal for, you had 4 days, you didn't deliver, case closed. Now that Daniher will take up your first pick you have no chance of getting him, Melbourne, North, Richmond, the Dogs and Carlton will all be better placed to make an offer.

Please take it to PMs if you guys want to continue debating what could or would have happened last year. I don't want to see the thread start to get filled with this back and forth debate. It's been done to death. Let's all move on and focus on this year instead. ;)

I'll use my new shiney delete pose button if I have to!

Thoughts on Warnock? Off contract, id renew his contract on low money and retain as a training/depth player. Not sure I want him long term best 22, need to gain another mature key back in these proposed trades, wouldnt Hooker be nice now as was offered last season...

True key backs atm:

Bock/Thompson - Return 2013 and both best 22 but injury prone
Warnock - Depth player at best

Thats it really, other guys like Tape/Hutchins play more of a sweeper role.

Yep May of course, that is still a little thin though given the injury troubles of a few of them. Any best 22 key backmen at other clubs we could target? Ideas?

Beams still hasn't signed with the Pies...
Side issue, not much said about GWS' insipid showing against Melbourne without Cornes and Luke Power to help them out.... I thought all of their kids were superstars

Thoughts about attracting Tarrant on a one year deal a la Cornes as the big defender
He's 32, but looks like the sort of player who would maintain fitness
Is a rung above Matty W who I would retain anyway for depth
Played 2 matches at Collingwood only this year

Harbrow Tarrant Brown May Thompson Warnock Iles Tape Hine etc starts to look solid
By 2014 our boys have 50 games+ into them and we're starting to play footy

Allows Bocky to go forward and partially solves the expensive power forward dilemma

Tarrant can't be so bad, otherwise why would Collingwood have re-listed him?
He's also younger than Chad Cornes
Really just need someone to get us over the hump of the next 12-24 months
One of our big issues is we're going to need a mature ruckman.
Might have to sell off a young'un to get someone to take Fraser's spot if we're serious about delisting him

It will be interesting to see what happens to the rookie list for 2013. We all know the details regarding the senior list.

However I think the rookie list needs to be at its full compliment (8 players?).

With an extremely young list and a long pre-season/season it appears it is taking its toll on the players.

With the Suns fielding a NEAFL side (a must), it would be disruptive for the "2's" to have big number of "top up players" playing each week. The "2's" should in essence duplicate a successful seniors game plan (please no jokes!) and be able to in theory replace player "A" with player "B" when injury strikes. Not having a large number of listed players in the "2's" each week makes it more difficult for the "game plan" to be executed.

This basically follows the Collingwood model which appears to be working.

Looking forward to thoughts.

Fraser confirmed over Twitter that he'll be retiring at seasons end and shift into a Coaching role somewhere. Hope he can stick around GC. He's a pretty likeable guy off the field and well respected by the players, from what I've seen. He's also Captaining the 2s side now.

Good on him, it's probably the mature and right thing to do.

Yeah whenever he has a been on SUNS tv he gets along very well with the boys. Zac Smith has always talked highly of his ruck mentoring as well. Two smart moves by the club in 1 day, not bad!
