Storm To Hit USA - not just for training but to play a match

The American National Rugby League has announced plans for NRL team Melbourne Storm to play the USA Tomahawks in a one-off game in the US later this year.
The match will be played on Saturday, October 30 and host cities being considered include New York and Philadelphia.

The Storm, which will likely bring a squad of 30 on tour, will arrive on the East Coast on Wednesday, October 10 to allow for two days of practice. The Australian side will depart on Sunday, October 14.

Everyone at the game was sitting on the edge of the chairs, particularly the last 15 minutes. How Storm witheld the continuous attack by the Dogs, still has me baffled.

And for those people who say we are a souless franchise club, you should come to some games and see the opposite is true.

I met up with a married couple - Bulldogs supporters (with 2 young children 4 & 6 who moved from Sydney to live in a regional town 4 yrs ago) at half-time and they told me they were shocked at the amazing support the team has down here and how rugby league has been embraced in Melbourne.

Their 2 young kids became Storm members for the first time this year cos they were born here and they always watch them on tv. The parents are also going to join as country members next year to support the game.

I love hearing stories like that and thought I would share this story with you all.

It was a great game of RL... Proud of the Bulldogs, they stood up on saturday!

If the bounce of the ball went our way, we could've won (The blantant knock on from Melbourne a tackle before there second try and Josh Reynolds being denied by the goal posts), but that's RL.

Yep they went in my mind from a bottom half of 8 side to a side that can push for top 4. Not too many come down here and push Melbourne that hard.

One thing that had us a bit amused though was why you guys don't spread the ball faster? On numerous occasions you had an overlap on the left, yet either didn't move ball fast enough or the centre took on the line. We definitely thought that cost you somewhat.

Have shown all year that we have a great attack. Very happy with a win which we needed to show our awesome defence.

Now to do both next Wednesday.

Yeah it was frustrating on saturday night... No one had that long bullet pass.

Our stand in halfback Keating isn't any good lol... Our halfback Hodgkinson would normally be the man too throw those balls (Out injured). You guys do have to remember, we pushed Melbourne without our number 1 halfback also.

I realise this is a contentious proposition.
Full disclosure: I am Melburnian. I barrack for the mighty Dees. I am forever looking for the fixture on the NRL website, not the draw. I tend to ask who was ‘Best on Ground’ despite repeatedly being told that we call it ‘Man of the Match’. I try to keep abreast of news at the tribunal, always forgetting that we call it the judiciary.
And as a proud Melburnian and even prouder Melbourne Storm supporter, I am here to put the case forward for ‘doing the double’, having have seen both sides of the NRL v AFL debate.
‘Debate’ is probably a euphemism. Perhaps ‘battle’ would be more apt.
NRL fans call AFL ‘aerial ping pong’. AFL fans call NRL ‘thugby’. NRL fans call AFL players soft. AFL fans call NRL players ‘bum sniffers’ (an unfortunate reference to our scrums, in case you are wondering). And so it goes.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. It is okay to enjoy both.

Just on the piece she wrote, we have a lot of afl fans who come to Storm games and the nrl should somehow try and help by club by not fixturing games at the same time when the bigger clubs play at the MCG at the same time.

Didn't make it in the end. Did the dawn service his year and decided to drink beers starting lunchtime, watch the AFL, cook a BBQ and then settle in for the NRL.
What a game. Warriors will be thereabouts. Plenty of errors from both side. Inu had a stinker.
