First off totally agree with Ed D but because im bored waiting for the cricket here is some fun facts....

Dont get me wrong i still think starting with sandi and cox was a no brainer last year but the numbers suggest starting with smith wasnt a bad move providing you used the cash wisely in other areas

Of the popular rookies these were there averages at round 12 ( half way mark of season and upgrade time)

Z Smith 90
D Heppell 86.3
E Curnow 82.5
N Lower 83
T Liberatore 78.3
A Swallow 77.8
D Harris 76.7
N duigan 74

NAB cup form pending there is definitely some merit in starting with rookie rucks..........

After seeing the available cash by having Rookie Rucks (Giles/Stephenson), I will be watching the pre-season form with interest. If they do score ok; it will be a handy mix up for this year! Would mean a couple of premiums that won't need upgrading later in the year............providing these guys can hold their own and get their 80-90ppg.

Can't go past mummy

1. 26 years old - prime

2. Averaged 123.6 in his last 10 games last year.

He's very expensive, likes getting rubbed out and Seaby is back. But gee he is a machine and can rack up some mega scores!

Natinui anyone?

Not much talk about him. I'd expect him to improve again meaning a 100+ average is a real possibility.

what sort of impact do you think ross lyon will have on sandilands in particular? i wonder if he'll manage him in the sense that he won't ruck a vast majority of games to get him through the entire h&a season?

I've been toying with Naitanui/rookie combo. Cox is getting on and Sandi hasn't had a great run with injuries the last couple of years.

I have been thinking about a similar strategy. Allows me to start with 4 premium mids. Then trade up to the best performing ruckman during the year.

Slight question marks about some of the other premiums. Mcintosh could take minutes off Goldstein? Hudson could lower Leuys output? Cox not getting any younger and starting price is very high. Sandi's body is a concern.

Wouldn't worry too much about old Huddo stealing much of Leuenhamandeggandburgers output. Will be not much more than breather fodder for the big burger this season in my opinion. Agree with the expressed doubts over the big member and Sandi - big Nic Nat might be 1-2 seasons off true premium consideration though? Close call. Close call.

No mention of Krueser or West yet!! Krueser seemed to get past last 9 games ok and should be full of confidence and West looks like being Cats #1 ruckman for some time. Handled himself very well late last year. Would have thought both a chance for at least second premium!!

Big Kreuze training the house down apparently. No foot or knee issues at all this pre-season. Just might be tempted as he's a nice price and I think his scores will be well up on last years average. I'm just not sure if he'll leap into Sandi/Mummy/Cox territory though. Very tempted....

I'd like to think he'll still be pulling on the Brown and Gold personally ;)

Im going for something a little different this year, it does have a no frills look about it:

McEvoy
Jacobs
Stephenson
Giles

Im trying for 4 premiums/over 500ks in DEF, MID and FOR so will go a little below budget in the Ruck stakes.

Why I am not going for...

Cox: He will drop in value pretty quickly and will have to pull out an even better year than last to keep his value, will observe first few rounds tho

Sandi: Worried about his toe plus I did a 2 week, 3 player trade to get him into my team last year and he got injured that week  so am cautious..

Mumford: I've been following the Swans website photo gallery of preseason training since Christmas and haven't seen one photo of him, am a little worried. Plus he is only one bad tackle/stray fist away from being given a one month holiday.

Goldstein: Got onto him last year when Sandi went down, will watch him with McIntosh/Petrie combo so it may take time for him to adjust.

My rucks this year are:
Berger
Kreuzer
Giles
Stephensen.
Kreuzer will break out this year with the improvement Carlton will have (shudder), and with Clarke gone the Berger should improve his average. The 2 rookies should play.

Anyone thought about Sellar as an insurance policy? $220k is a lot to have on the bench, but he could see a lot of playing time for Melbourne (in the backline) and make some money, whilst ensuring you have a backup on the bench.

Just a thought - he could end up with 0 games.

Dont do it rhaz.

IF he gets a game, he wont be a high scorer.

Personally Im not expecting him to play every week to be honest.

Guys, thoughts on Jordan Roughead, thinking he could be my McEvoy of 2012, young up and comer, ready to flourish with more responsibility (with Hudson now in Brisbane), only Minson and Cordy to compete against.

IMO McEvoy is a stronger body and has a better footy brain. Roughhead is an athlete that I think will be backing up Minson. IMO there are many better options. Probably more chance Trent West pulls a McEvoy than Roughy.

Probably start with:

Cox, Goldstein, Stephensen and Giles/Pattison

Will eye up MPP just incase
