I know everyone's probably starting to get a bit sick of these portfolios but I figured here is as good a place as any to get my designs out. Keen to get my ideas out, so here we go. Have already designed everything but will probably only get a few clubs in at a time. Certainly won't be getting heaps out tonight, I'm too buggered and need sleep soon...
Don't have logos but may get around to putting some of these in here as well at som stage soon.

Adelaide's current home design is fine. Nothing wrong with the hoops, but like everyone else I agree that there should be no side panels. The hoops have to continue around the whole way. The clash is my only main problem with their kits at the moment. Unoriginal birdhead design using white when they can easily use yellow (a club colour ) makes no sense to me. My clash is based around the 99-07 away jumpers, using yellow as a base colour. It uses the old crow logo instead of the current monstrosity and still incorporates thinner hoops. Tbh, I'm not totally convinced with the yellow shorts. They look a little bit sickly and otherwise white would look fine. Another idea would be a simple yellow recolour, but this is still 'modern' and would probably sell better looking at it from a club perspective.

Like everyone else, I cannot see any logic in what Brisbane have done to their guernseys. What they had was perfect and what they currently have looks tacky. Ideally they should go back to the old Fitzroy lion but unfortunately I'm not sure that is really on the cards anytime soon :( My preferred set, A, is just a slight variation on the old kits. The clash is based on the old Bears jumpers, offering a nice bit of recognition to both merger teams.
My main problem with the current design is the oversized lion. I'm not totally against the lion itself and would have nowhere near the same hate towards the guernseys if they looked like the ones in set B. The lion is reduced to normal size and the yoke is straight, like before. For those complaining about there being no Roy lion, it features as a small patch on the chest (although I personally don't see it necessary). The clash is also based off the old Bears guernseys but needs a bit more work. If I could, I would have made the outline a bit thicker so that the lion stands out better

Carlton:

Carlton already have pretty much everything right and tbh couldn't very easily bugger anything up. The home and away are the same as they are currently. Although I'm not actually really against their baby blue clash, the general opinion on this board is that it is disliked. Their old clash still used only club colours and probably is 'more Carlton'

Re: PAFC_04's 2012 Suggestions

This is obviously an unrealistic hypothetical question, but nonetheless...
What would Carlton supporters react like if the Blues were to introduce white side panels onto their home guernsey?

Not well.

Re: PAFC_04's 2012 Suggestions

Not sure about the gold lion on a gold background for Clash B. Swap lions colours so it would be morone lion on gold background.

Yeah as I said, that clash needs a bit of work still. Unlike the Fitzroy lion though, this one is far more detailed and can't easily be made maroon. I did actually try it and it looked disgusting! I think it needs a thicker outline around the lion but I was unable to do that with my own skills. If anyone could tell me how to do this or could do this for me it would be much appreciated :thumbsu:
Simple solution though - go back to the old lion!

What I'd do is simplify the damn thing, and then colour it. (assuming you have paint?)

Re: PAFC_04's 2012 Suggestions

I want to outline it though, not recolour it. The recolouring looked awful! I have a simplified lion anyway, and don't know how having it simplified would help me give it a thick outline

Re: PAFC_04's 2012 Suggestions

Oh, I thought you wanted it reversed like the old fitzroy lion. Well, colour the background and trace around that background the thickness you want, or use curve tool to trace the whole lion. If that works, I would be surprised :p

Re: PAFC_04's 2012 Suggestions

Yeah, its tricky. When I get some free time, I'll put photoshop back on this computer and have a bit more of a play with it.

Do that and you won't need any of my helpful advice anymore!

Alright time for some more...

Clash vs North
ClashNM.png

Was always a fan of the old Collingwood guernsey and for a club which prides itself so much on its tradition could never understand why they deviated from their original 'light' strip. For this reason (and because it looks amazing) it should return as the home guernsey from 2012 onwards. With the exception of last year, the current guernsey hasn't exactly had a heap of success, being worn in 3 losing and 1 drawn GF. Return to tradition, I say.
To fit in with this setup, the pies would need a 'dark' clash guernsey. There is no reason why they can't do the same as they do now and wear an inverse as a clash. Like Geelong and North, a simple change to white shorts (as away) will avoid a lot of clashes anyway, so realistically this will not be used a lot. The clash also has the option of hooped socks which can be worn against clubs like Port and Carlton (can also be worn with away)
The North clash is based off of the 2002-2004 away guernsey with the swooping magpie. This effectively creates only half a striped guernsey, with the other half of the guernsey being a yoke and a magpie. To further darken this guernsey, the stripes have been removed completely from the back. For this to work properly, it will be one of those cases wear the home team (NM) will have to wear white shorts.

Essendon:

Can't for the life of me understand why Essendon can't get their sash right  Last year's curve was too extreme, as is this years straight sash. Richmond seem to do this pretty well so I think Essendon should take a leaf out of their book. All of these designs revert back to having a 'normal' sash. The home and away are essentially the same as current, applying this principle.
Like everyone else, Essendon do need to get a clash. The fat sash looked silly and didn't really do a lot. In keeping with their current sash design, I have based the clash on Richmond's. I know that some people don't like this design but I think it is a great, simple, traditional design which imo also surprisingly works well. The only differences to the home design are red side panels and collar/cuffs. To further help avoid clash, red shorts are used. The AFL are currently allowing just red shorts as a clash, so there is no reason why this wouldn't be passed.

I know the legal reasons behind Freo's change but I'm still not completely sold on their change (maybe because it is so similar to Port's ). I just feel as though when they dropped the anchor, they dropped a huge chunk of their identity too. At first I loved the change, now I don't. There is no reason why they couldn't have left the agreement with Levi's the same and simply just dropped the red and green to leave the home being the same as the purple haze jumper. I preferred this over the former home as it was much cleaner and nicer looking. To fit with this change, the clash would have remained the same. I also slightly darkened the purple, making the designs look 'tougher' imo.

Set B is pretty much the same as current. Obviously they're gonna stick with the vees for a few years now and in time this change probably still is best for the club. Its sad to see the anchor go but I still don't really have much of a problem with what they've got. Its simple, traditional and mean; a lot of which the older strip lacked. The only minor change I've made is adding more hoops to the clash socks, making the strip more like the old heritage design.

Re: PAFC_04's 2012 Suggestions

I hope Collingwood go back to that home jumper with the black shorts, exactly like PAFC has posted. Love it so much :thumbsu:

Re: PAFC_04's 2012 Suggestions

Yeah, my thoughts exactly, their current guernsey is waaay too dark, but they'd risk it looking cheap if they lighten it, even slightly really.

Was it always this dark on purple haze? They probably put the purple like that for more of an intimidating look.

The purple haze and 2011 home certainly look darker than previous guernseys. Anything lighter in such a big quantity looks really bad and weak. It kind of worked on the old home because there was still a lot of red, green and white. However, a purple haze with the lighter purple would look terrible imo. I tried keeping the purple the same but it looked bad.
It does look a lot like navy, I admit, but it certainly does look intimidating and tough

This is actually a weird topic (and I'm not sure if it has to do with photo lighting, or if they were actually changing it) But have a look at the 2008 Purple Haze Guernsey-

1hazejumper246x316.jpg

That looks pretty dark, but if you look at the 2009 Purple Haze Guernsey-

numbers-246x316b.jpg

That looks quite light in comparison...

And it gets even stranger when talking about their current home guernsey... now this could be TOTALLY due to photo lighting, but if you look at the guernsey when they first revealed it-

launchstory350px.jpg

It looks quite light... fast forward to when they're using it-

Mathew_Pavlich_250th_Game.jpg

And it looks a whole lot darker, again, this could just be due to photo lighting, but it is a strange thought to think they may have changed their guernsey since they revealed it. When watching on Foxtel it looks navy blue, but to be fair, it does look quite intimidating.

Geelong:

Geelong has had some beautiful jumpers over the years so I have no reason to create anything 'new'. The home and away are absolutely perfect; nothing needs to change. I still prefer the cats wearing navy shorts instead of white, and if they're the home team they should get preference. I don't mind their current clash but I did prefer last years. Simple and a very nice mix of being traditional and modern. I also tried a simple inverse but this I believe looks better.

I've had the idea for set B ever since the GC were formed. I used to think the guernseys were too plain, boring and unimaginative (not matching their brand very well). I thought they lacked character and needed a bit of sprucing up. I got the idea from Gazza, their original mascot:

gc-235x300.jpg

The only change I have really made to this is raising the yoke. For those who are unaware, this yoke resembles the life saving flags and the beaches of the Gold Coast.
The clash is similar to this, just inverting the two main colours
However, the current Gold Coast home guernsey has certainly grown on me over the past year. I'm not quite sure why, but I now love it. Its definitely clean and simple and still looks imposing and modern enough. The wave on the away I find unecessary and should be ditched imo. There are no differences between the home/away on either set, except for the sponsors. If the AFL will let them, I see no reason why they should not wear red shorts away too. The clash for this set is the same as set B. It is more logical for the club to use a yellow clash instead of white, a non-club colour.

Hawthorn:

We've argued this to death but I love Hawthorn's current guernsey. The number panel I don't see as an issue and I think it helps to make it unique compared to Collingwood and NM. Everyone wears white shorts so what difference does a bit of white on the back of the guernsey? Anyway, leave it as is imo!
I also see Hawthorn's home as being a 'light' guernsey. Therefore, they need a 'dark' clash. Obvious replacement therefore is the old vee design. Only change is monogram reduced and put above numbers on the back. Enough said! :thumbsu:

Re: PAFC_04's 2012 Suggestions

Seem fairly good so far but as regards to the Essendon clash that is probably a bad idea because no club would like to copy another side directly.

Re: PAFC_04's 2012 Suggestions

Not doing GWS PAFC?
And I like the second GC set, but they might be too "Brisbane Lions-y"

Yeah I have done them actually, was just saving them for last because it was one of my favourites ;) The lions thing does make sense and may have been a contributing factor to them not sticking with this original concept. However, they could have used it to help build up the rivalry there too ;) Wouldn't surprise me at all if their guernsey developed into something similar in a few years. I don't care too much anyway, I'm happy with their current home now :)

Cheers :thumbsu: A lot of clubs already have very similar clash guernseys though (e.g. WC, Adel, Haw | Coll, NM) so I'm not sure it would be too big an issue. If they could avoid having to really deviate from their traditional design, I'm sure they would take this alternative
