can't see us delist many player's this year so a third round pick wouldn't be handy for us at all unless we traded that pick for a player and/or better pick

my point is that we Tippett in the team their is little need for acorn so why not try and trade him. I think it would be hard to trade him, but should we get tippett early we could mask it a little as a youth player being squeezed out. And a 3rd round can still snag a very good player every now and again

it would be a good idea to upgrade picks as we are unlikely to get more than 3 through the draft this year (not including the rookie draft). that's assuming we get a couple players in trade week month. get the highest picks possible.

I don't see why Tippett and Cornelius can't play in the same forward line. Voss seems to like the West Coast style setup which has 3 big targets and I feel that Cornelius is our best bet to have that Darling like 3rd tall, but also have the ability to play as a traditional FF when Tippett hits the ruck.

Is it true that a player that is delisted but doesn't have 7 years at a single club they can't be signed as free agents and they need to be recruited through the draft?

Not a bad idea. What do people think of trading Acorn and pick 23 for a pick in early teens? Are other teams likely to go for it? Is it worthwhile for us?

I don't really rate Cornelius at all, I don't know about other people, but he seems like such a 'Melbourne' forward. Doesn't have much of a work rate, rarely goes for the physical contest, inconsistent, but has potential and shows glimpses with the odd spectacular mark and bag against Gold Coast or Labrador. Trade him to Melbourne with pick 48ish for their pick 26, he'd go reasonably with Clark and Howe in the forward line and get more opportunity, but he's probably behind Staker, Retz, Tippett, Brown and Karnezis at Brisbane. Thoughts?

That's not true. Anyone delisted at list lodgement 1 without their club offering them a new contract is an unrestricted free agent, regardless of their time spent.

A player has served seven seasons or less of AFL football at one club, and has been delisted by his club.
- The player is a Free Agent and is eligible to field offers from all rival AFL clubs.
- The player must decide on the best offer of his choice from one rival club.
- The player can move AUTOMATICALLY to the new club of his choice.
- His original club, which chose to delist him, does not receive any compensation pick for the loss of the player.

Think we should go after Koby Stevens (similar to Lisle situation last year-might be looking for more opportunities) or Jordan Gysberts ,if Melb putting him up for sale is true. Both inside mids seemingly on the outer at their respective clubs. Especially next year in what looks to be Black's final, get some mentoring into them before we challenge for finals.

Good to see you back Dan12 :thumbsu:

About 5 hours ago I was ice cold on Ace. Then I watched the first Gold Coast game for the year back, just because I'm going through our games for the season again. I'm back to 'unsure' on him now.

if the lions trade in Tippett they need to do it early in the week.

I think the Tippett trade will defy the trend of big trades stretching out and will actually be done in the first week. Different to the Clark situation last year in that both us and the Suns are willing to pay a reasonable price for Kurt, whereas Freo just wouldn't budge until right near the end.

In fact, I think most trades that have been spoken about will be done near the end of week 2. Week 3 might see a few unexpected trades go through, as clubs will be sitting around thinking 'what now?'

If it's not already obvious, I'm really quite amped for the trade period. Might be the only one in footy who is, but I can't wait.

Nothing will happen early, just like it always does. With 3 weeks clubs will take their time and wait for any possible better offers before finalising deals. The only reason they will get trades done is so they can get on with other trades. I would expect the Crows to let it hang, hoping the GC will get involved in a big way and start a bidding war.

I don't think the Tippett trade will impact many other trades we might look at, so i think we can keep getting on with it even if it does drag on. I would be surprised if the Tippett trade is done the first week.

I think he might have changed his mind over the course of the season, actually. Can't recall too many games recently where he's played three tall forwards. No doubt in my mind that we look like a better team with a bit of space in the forwardline.

Personally not entirely convinced that Tippett is worth pick 8 right now. If the club thinks it can push for the top four in the next three or four years, then its a sensible trade. I'm not certain that we can, but I can see the logic.

Have a feeling Rob Kerr might downgrade our pick 8 a few places. Might be able to get another second rounder.

E.g. Pick 8 and 49 to St Kilda for pick 12 and pick 34.

Trade pick 12 for Tippett. (Sorry Crows, that's our highest pick)

Then we might be able to package up pick 30 and 34 for a pick in the early 20s.

Just an example of how we could get Tippett and still end up with two late first rounders.

Unlikely to unfold exactly that way but it's just to show that we aren't confined to trading pick 8 outright for Tippett. Extra value can be squeezed out of picks with smart trading. the longer trade period might allow more opportunity for these sort of trades to be done.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

I would think GC would better pick 12 though BD wouldn't they? Maybe with the Caddy pick. Still think he may stay at GC however.

FWIW I hope we are exploring our options should we consider a power forward a must considering this probably still won't happen and even if it does people would have to be worried about his past 4-5 weeks of form.

All depend on whether Kurt indicates a clear preference or not. My example is assuming that Tippett wants to come to us.

Oh ok my bad.

Just out of interest is their any other KPF's on the market other than Cloke or Lynch who may be looking for a fresh start?

Seems Caddy wants out of GC with Bombers and Cats the front runners, AFL website

Would have thought with Melbourne activating both Scully compensation picks and telling 11 players their contract talks are on hold were in a better position..

But would Caddy really want to come to Melbourne of all places?

he would be use to the 50 point beatings most weeks..........

With caddy now offically on the move from the suns, and the suns getting another HIGH draft pick to play with does that put them in the box seat for tippet.

Whats the knock on jordy gysberts...havent seen much of him play,
