Any chance of us doing a "Carlton" or a "Collingwood" & making a big play for a genuine gun player ? (Apart from Tippett, who some don't consider him a gun anyways). That player to me would be Kennedy from the Swans. The door is slightly ajar about a possible move from Sydney.

He would cost plenty of $$$ & a good draft pick/player or two.

In an absolute heartbeat. I'd happily give him the money that's been rumoured for Tippett and a 4 year deal. Don't think we're any chance really, though. If he goes anywhere, it'll probably be to the Giants.

POBT,
In my opinion, ( as ive said before) Clouston deserves another go at the elite level. This season he was exceptional for Redlands , playing CHF and kicked some 55 goals. Yes he has the qualities you mentioned in your above posts but also has the ability to take a close game by the scruff of the neck and turn the game into a win situation.

As he should at NEAFL level if he is any chance of getting another run at an AFL club. He'll be 26 before next season starts - you'd want to hope he was a game changer at the lower level!

Could be a blessing in disguise I reckon.

Is it a realistic prospect that J.Kennedy would leave Sydney?

I would have thought, now that he's established himself as one of their best players, and a likely future captain, as well as the Swans challenging for flags, that he'd be keen to continue on to have a great career with the club.

Also, I would have thought that Sydney would have little trouble in being able to afford a wage increase in order to retain Kennedy (along with the other benefits of playing for them).

I think it's just the fact that he put contract talks off until the end of the season that raised a few eyebrows. I'd still be very surprised if he left.

You aren't a fan?

I am but I just think for what you would have to pay to get him it isn't worth it. He suits the Swans' style of play on a small ground, not sure he would suit ours necessarily.

Yeah fair enough. Sydney paid way under what he was worth to get him, but anyone interested now would have to pay considerably over. As I said though, could be very good for GWS.

Now that the first round of delistings are done, interesting to see who we offer up for trade - possibles are Banfield, Bartlett, Ace, Karnezis, Drummo, O'Brien, Polkinghorne and McKeever.

Kennedy is the Swans' best player, and one of the top 5 players in the competition. He's already moved once, so is unlikely to do so again I would have thought.

Yere I agree Grim. It was more of a pipe dream for me. There is NO way that Swans would let Kennedy go. He has been their best player in the finals so far.

And tonight is tearing them up

I seriously Doubt that Ace is trade bait after Voss' comments, and I'd say after a 2 year investment we'd be reluctant to trade Bartlett too. I can't speak for the others, we've put alot of work in to Karnezis so I doubt he'd be on offer, but if there is any truth to the home sick rumours he may be looking for a move.

I reckon Drummo is a special for being offered up in a trade.

He's an interesting case. He's a restricted free agent, if memory serves, which means we have the option to match the contract he brings to us. If we do, then he either has to stay or seek a trade instead, and we'd probably get better compensation from a trade.

In addition, the clubs that would be most interested in him (an older player, injury prone, immediate impact) might be those with less to spend in their salary cap as it'd largely be those in the bottom half of the eight/two or three spots outside the eight, so we could potentially match offers without breaking the bank.

Could be a good fit for you if Saunders can get his body right.

As he's a restricted free agent do you envisage your club outbidding the lions by value or contract length?

If there is one man who can do it, it is Saunders.

From what's been discussed, he is moving down to Melbourne.

Yep, but as I understand the free agency rules, interested clubs still need to outbid the lions to gain his services...right? Just wondering if you have an inkling if North plan on doing that with a longer contract or more money - ie how's the state of North's salary cap? I ask because it could possibly have a bearing on the compensation the Lions receive, assuming the clubs don't choose the trade option.

Drummond was nothing short of a liability this year IMO. His one on one defense was woeful. He just doesn't have any confidence in his body anymore.
An education lesson. It is customary for us to pump up and accentuate the positives so that we can fool the AFL in giving us a higher compensation pick. Sheeesh.

Here are the rules:

eligibility_free_agency.jpg

The Guidelines as released by the AFL:

A player who has served seven seasons or less at one AFL club and is now out of contract is not eligible for free agency if his club wishes to retain him. He may only move clubs via a trade or the Draft. If he delists himself, he is subject to the draft and may be selected by any club.

A player has served seven seasons or less at one AFL club and has been delisted:

- The player is a Free Agent and is eligible to field offers from all rival AFL clubs.
- The player must decide on the best offer of his choice from one rival club.
- The player can move AUTOMATICALLY to the new club of his choice.
- The original club which chose to delist him does not receive any compensation draft pick.

RESTRICTED FREE AGENT

A player who has served eight or more seasons at one AFL club, is one of the top 25% highest-paid players at his club, and now out of contract for the first time since March 1 in his eighth season.

- The player is eligible to field offers from all rival AFL clubs.
- If he wishes to change clubs, the player must decide on the best offer of his choice from one rival club.
- His club has the right to match the presented offer.
- If the club matches the offer, he may choose to remain with his original club, seek a trade or enter the Draft.
- If the club does not or can not match the offer, the player can move to the new club of his choice.
- His original club will receive a compensation pick for the loss of the player based on the above explained formula.

UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENT

A player who has served eight or more seasons at one AFL club, is not in the top 25% of the club's highest players and is now out of contract for the first time in eight seasons OR has served ten or more seasons at one AFL club, has come out of contract once during that period after March 1 in his eighth season and is now out of contract.

- The player is eligible to field offers from all rival AFL clubs.
- If he wishes to change clubs, the player must decide on the best offer of his choice from one rival club.
- His club does NOT have the right to match the presented offer, and the player can move AUTOMATICALLY to the new club of his choice.
- His original club will receive a compensation pick for the loss of the player, based on the aforementioned formula.

In terms on our salary, I believe we are at 94.2% atm. It'll be lengthwise.

I'd be surprised if Drummond wasn't considering his options. Lions offer him 1 year, a Vic. club might offer him 2 and Sydney might offer him 3 (for only 8 games ;)) .
Ah yes, the old Sydeney Superannuation Fund recruitment policy. Had not considered that as an option, but you could be on to something there jackess.

I would like us to target 1-2 fringe players who have potential from other clubs. Trent Dennis-Lane from the swans would be a cheap trade option, and a player who would be keen for a fresh start you would think. He would add pace and goal scoring once he gets a better fitness base. Do a Swans trade like move on the Swans ;)
