Khan Haretuku was a former St.Kilda rookie, probably wasnt ready at the time. At 22, he is more ready to play now than he was as an 18 year old.

has played predominantly deep forward, but has showed his talents as a ruckmen with a 15 hitout, 4 goal effort against Geelong in round 4.
A big strong prescence up forward, his ungangly kicking style looks awkard, but effect (14 goals, 6 behinds).

At a glance; Khan Haretuku
11 possessions per game
2 goals per game
1.5 contested marks per game
4.5 uncontested marks per game
5.5 hitouts per game

Leigh Osborne is an interesting one, really came out of no where this year for the Dolphins, he has been the defensive general down back. a neat kick, his run and carry has been a feature this year. not a big guy, but will not shirk a contest and put in 110% every time.

At a glance; Leigh Osborne
18 possessions per game
2 marks per game
3 tackles per game

Kyle Martin has been the best Dolphin by a mile this year. Averaging 24 possessions a game, Martin's ball use has been a real feature, running off a wing and playing on ball. I did catch the state game, and that high half forward was a different role he has played at Frankston. A tidy kick who makes every possession count, he is one player who has certainly started the year off in searing form..

At a glance; Kyle Martin
24 possessions per game
4 marks per game
4 tackles per game

Hey Knight, while your here, what ever happened to Tom Sundberg? thought he was a shoe - in the get drafted last year, but has literally fallen off the map in 2012.

Anyone else you were impressed with in the state game yesterday? (cough, Adam Marcon cough?, Michael Musicka cough, cough)

Thanks for the summary. Much appreciated.

By any chance do you have a list of measurements for the Frankston trio?
I really enjoyed watching them. All looked very draftable and all really surprised me.

On Osbrone what is he like defensively? He is a pure offense guy or can he also play a lock down role if required?

Marcon showed up and produced. Baird was great but shame he isn't on an AFL list this year. Galea showed some but looked to struggle at times against a taller defender which would worry me at AFL level but none the less did plenty of good things. Pendlebury read it well as always down back. Cook was fantastic and have to agree with those saying that he should be on an AFL list. Towes impressed me also. Cain was solid as a forward as always. Hartigan while his kicking was really poor on a number of occasions I'd still have some confidence in. Dwyer and Plemming produced as expected and showed they are both worthy of positions on AFL lists also. Really even contribution from the VICs but I did find myself leaving with a few more names of legit guys who can play and a number of guys I just haven't seen before which is always pleasing and probably a sign that I should pay more attention to the VFL.

As for Tasmania mostly Musicka - have to agree with Chris25. The guy can play. I'm sorry for not paying more attention to him last year to be honest. Looks like a player and if he can continue his development this season and put together a strong 2nd half to the season I suggest he will be on an AFL list. Cox also impressive.

Don't know what the story is with Sundberg this year. Hasn't played a game yet so I can only assume he is injured. He had a very strong season last year so it's disappointing not to see him out there this year.

Yeah, Martin has been the real bolter of this years VFL up and comers.
As for the measurements,

Here are the official stats (from the VFL record)

#6. Kyle Martin, 17 September 1990, 182cm, 82kg, 7 games, 4 goals, Noble Park/Sandringham Dragons

#18. Khan Haretuku, 19 October 1989, 199cm, 101kg, Casey Scorpions (VFL), 37 games, 32 goals

#30. Leigh Osborne, 13 March 1990, 186cm, 84kg, East Ringwood/Eastern Ranges, 7 games, 1 goal

Hope these help? What did you see in these three?

On Osbrone what is he like defensively? He is a pure offense guy or can he also play a lock down role if required?

More that rebounding type, perhaps a poor mans Heath Shaw.. Lovely user of the ball, definitely one to keep an eye out for the rest of the year bud ;)

Who were you most impressed with? (Obviously the Frankston trio)
Marcon was a real workhorse, not sure what role he can play at the next level though, that is my big question mark on him, perhaps a back pocket/half back flanker?
Im not sold on Galea as an AFL footballer. One - trick pony who is not really mobile enough to be a Stewart Crameri KPF. Don't get me wrong, gun at the next level, just think he will struggle to match up against the KPD at AFL level.
I was actually disappointed in Dwyers game, really came into it when the game was dying off (in that third term), Pendlebury was a standout (as always like you said) Gun! Chris Cain is fast becoming the number one player in the VFL. A complete package as far as Im concerned, forward, midfielder, even noticed a couple of links up from the wing/half back at one stage.
Hartigan (along with Duscher not playing) was the big disappointment of the game to be honest, came in with high hopes but nothing really stood out. (to be fair, being so lopsided didnt help the defenders out much).
Towers was another I had high hopes for but nothing screamed "pick me" (probably didnt help his first two disposals being a point and a turnover). Yes, he did get a ton of it, so that does alway help.

As for Tasmania mostly Musicka - have to agree with Chris25. The guy can play. I'm sorry for not paying more attention to him last year to be honest. Yeah, I was most impressed with musicka and the guy in the long sleeves Cox. Cox's skills were sublime whilst Musicka showed endeavour and his skills on show..
What did you make of big Ben Brown's game? (if you managed to catch it).

Don't know what the story is with Sundberg this year. Hasn't played a game yet so I can only assume he is injured. He had a very strong season last year so it's disappointing not to see him out there this year.

Seems like Yaco answered it for us bud :thumbsu:

Out of curiosity, have you seen much VFL this year?

Thanks for the measurements. Much appreciated.

Really liked Martin's ball use. Has some hurt factor but hits the targets. Foot skills a real highlight. Can hit the scoreboard. Could be useful as a rotation midfielder who can spend some time on a forward flank.

Haretuku impressed and was clearly the best forward. Looks raw to some extent but he looked like a presence up forward and looks like a poor mans Kurt Tippett. Really interested to see whether he can keep improving.

Osborne showed some real class and composure. Ball use looked good but also can create space for himself to give himself more time which impressed as a defender.

Would like to see more of the trio. All showed enough to suggest they are worth another look and all look very draftable based on that one taste of what they can do.

I agree with your thoughts on Galea. He is no doubt great at VFL level but I don't see him having any impact at AFL level against taller, stronger key defenders.

I was hoping for a much greater influence and greater production from Dwyer also through the midfield. Not nearly the best i've seen him play but knowing what he can produce this performance doesn't concern me so much. While it was a relatively low production game by his standards he still did some really impressive things. Looked really good up forward getting into the spaces left behind and just intuitely knows where to run to find the footy. I like that he can play both through the midfield and up forward. One of my favourites not on an AFL list at present and look forward to seeing what he can produce later in the season.

Pendlebury while I doubt he will get drafted is just such a natural defender and could easily fit into the Gold Coast or GWS backline as a plug and play key defender. Love his ability to read it down back and ball use also very good for a tall.

Cain was very good up forward and other than dropping an easy mark early on in the 1st quarter played a solid game as expected. Very much a known quantity and it just comes down to a club finding a role for him.

Towers I haven't seen much of in the past but for someone I haven't seen allot of I have to say he is one I'd like to see more of even if he did make those early mistakes. Mostly used it really well and played a good two way game.

Hartigan I also expected allot more from but you can't judge his game based on this performance against no name Tasmanian forwards. Mainly the ball use disappointed me but I'd like to see more of him later on in the season against better opposition. If he is to get drafted it will be on the back of some big performances against some stronger opposition and I'll make a judgement on that.

Ben Brown didn't impress me. A favourite of old. Showed great ability to read it, read it better than the VIC rucks, got into the right positions so does allot of things right. Just isn't strong enough and gets pushed around too easily in the ruck then up forward also his lack of strength was clear. As a mature ager just needs to be able to influence contests more and have a greater impact on the game. If he can put on those 10-15kg of muscle he could develop into a very good player - just a shame a club didn't give him the opportunity earlier to get him into the gym earlier so that he could be further progressed by this stage.

I watched the game yesterday and I was super impressed with him.

Kicked the opening goal of the match from a neat left foot kick. Put his body on the line a number of times yesterday, showed a but off toe and has tidy skills.

If I remember correctly, a ball winning midfielder who was solid across the championship for Tasmania last year?

Watched the game and my thoughts were;

Cain is a much better footballer than I gave him credit for.

Towers (?) - seen him once or twice before and I think he could really step up. He has some very draftable qualities.

Hartigan - was disappointing but i will take VFL form against better fwds and more pressure as a more plausible guide

Dwyer - shoudl have been drafted. His issue is he doesnt win enough footy - has to be that bc everything else he does is good. Unfortunately I havent really seen him change that around. Anyone got any CP stats for him?

Mihocek - seen him twice this year (Foxtel Cup being the other) and I think he has enough to be a rookie. Not sure whats happened to this kid but he should be playing VFL.

Osborne - Hadnt seen before. Can play. AFL clubs love state league defenders. He is probably high on the list right now along with a couple of WA blokes who are going well.

Ross - If he and Duscher arent the best players running around in the VFL i will be stuffed! Havent seen much of Wheeler but he would have claims as well.

Ben Brown - I thought he was ok. Young bloke who has plenty of time IMV

Musicka - He will be drafted this year I suspect. My understanding is a couple of clubs have watched him pretty closely and is likely to go.

Ps Why wasnt Luke Shackleton playing. Was he inj?

Cain has improved out of sight this year.. A much better, all round player.

What do you see in Mihocek (mya - check apparently :confused:)? played in defence and really struggled IMO.

Im not sure why Duscher didnt play :mad: really wanted to see him at state level..

Wouldnt surprise me to see Musicka go (along with a couple of other Tasweigans).

Certainly think up to 8 - 10 could get drafted on the back of their games last weekend.

Anyone catch the other state games, still trying to get my hands on a copy of the WAFL v SANFL game, absolute cracker i hear.

It was - go onto ABC iview and you will find it under the sports section.

Boy Hams was very good and still dont get why Blackwell doesnt deserve a shot. let me know what you think of his skill level and whether its passes muster!

Lacks pace. Especially for Subi ground.

Can't remember the name of SA full forward but he looked alright. Wonder if he stirred any interest. Not sure how old he is.

Saw a young Northern Blues player named Dirago last week really looked like a great ball user with good run and carry from halfback, definitely one to watch for rest of the year. Marcon & Lambert well worth keeping an eye on although Lamberts size might go against him. Still hurting badly over Saad, was pleading with Carlton all last year through emails to no avail. Would be a great partner for Betts & co ecspecially this year. Not happy. Would love Sam Dwyer at Carlton. Clubs can't see the trees for the forest.

That would have been Adam Grocke. Formally rookie listed by Port Adelaide. He certainly is a very strong mark but his kicking is always the problem. Fortunately he had his kicking boots on for the state game as his stats would have normally read 2 goals 5 instead of 7 straight.

Grocke - 27. Good kid, good family, was on port list but foot skills not so great. Can play a few different roles though.

I don't know it was just between that and the game vs Willy in Foxtel cup game I just thought his positioning, ball use etc is as good as some of the guys who sit on our rookie list. I don't want to name them but it just surprises me that we rate some of them ahead of him.

Coleman surely. How many clubs could do with a big forward with great dukes and kicks straight. Can also go into the ruck, perfect for todays game with the sub rule.

I hear Luke Tynan (brother of recently drafted Josh) has been putting in some pretty consistent performances for Casey this year.

I havnt seen him myself - have any of you guys seen much of him?

hasnt done much wrong has he.

when are people going to start talking about Nathan Ablett. Few clubs could do with a key fwd and if he produces some more good performances he will be talked up into a frenzy on the Boards

It about time somebody went through Port Melbourne's list and drained some of the talent that has been there for years. Sam Pleming would walk into quite a few teams defences, starting with Saints and Carlton, age is getting on but a club would get 3 years or more to fill a gap. Billy Burstin is ready to make an impact at the next level, 22 ready made CHF, left footer, reminds me of Crameri without the blistering pace. Dwyer and Cain are better than most clubs bottom 10 players.

Could be a Good Rookie Pick Up

We took Malcolm Lynch last draft.

Does anyone watch much of Port?

Is Michael Caine worth a shot? Melbourne are screeming for a small forward but I doubt we'll try to fix that problem with early draft picks.

Loved him in The Dark Knight. Getting on a bit though.

Chris Cain, I believe, has kicked 34 goals in the VFL this season. I was a little surprised he didn't get picked up last year TBH.

Who is number 6 for frankston -doesn't fumble fast well worth a chance to draft

Essendon should pick up both Ben Ducsher and Shane Valenti. Absolute guns both of them

What do you guys think about Marcus Marigliani from Sandy? I quite enjoyed watching him play for essendon. Actually I was astounded when he got cut.

Any chance of him getting picked up again by a club?
