im not a believer, however with the amount of natural disasters occuring lately is the earth trying to tell us something? will we listen to what it is saying or continue to mine the **ck out of it and pollute it?

You're so wise and full of logical reasoning.

Seriously though - I fully expect the Canary islands to go later this year and then it's good bye to most of the eastern American seaboard and much of Europe.

This thread will not end well!!

If you do believe in it you will be chastised on here for having an opinion that differs from the masses and open yourself up to ridicule. I don't think you will get many posters that will admit they believe something serious will happen in 2012 regarding the planet.

Each to their own though and FWIW i don't think it will be the end in 2012 but i do believe the earth will see a major event like a massive Solar Storm and/or Pole Shift that will have serious effects on the planet that we will have to deal with and it may change the way we live.

Like what?

Cylone Yasi was a result of a strong southern oscilation (La Nina), we had a strong El Nino for 10 years without much cyclone activity, its a normal thing.

Christchurch Earthquake/Japan Earthquakes happened at active margins known for earthquakes, both are not huge surprises.

Climate change is happening, but these events would have happened anyway.

People need to understand the mayan calender
It's not a prediction of when the Earth will end.
It's the most accurate calender known to man, with the date of December 21st, 2012 not being when the Earth is supposed to end, it's when the calender starts again.
That date though, is actually when all the planets in the solar system align. The next time that will happen perfectly will be a long time from now, when the calender comes to an end again.

There are also events of significance, in the Mayan calender post December 21st, 2012, and there is also nostrodamus predictions post 2012.

All this is, is the next date with ANY significance, that people can guess it'll be the end of the world.

There are only 2 ways the Earth is going to end in the near future, 1 will be if a massive asteroid collides with Earth, but that's highly unlikely (the gravities of Jupiter and Sol will probably direct the asteroids away.

The other is if Yellowstone Volcano blows its load. Western America is destroyed, a tsunami will take out alot of Eastern Asia/Australia and anything inbetween us and America. The Sulfer will destroy plane travel, and the dust will cause a mini-ice age.

And there is no way to predict when either of them are going to happen (though, Yellowstone was due to blow it's load a few millenium back.......)

That date though, is actually when all the planets in the solar system align.

Exactly and NASA have stated this is true and it has the potential to cause a Polar Shift which could be catastrophic to the planet even if we shift off the Axis by as little as 2 degrees. The last time the planets aligned like this was very close to the last Ice age or some experts believe by core sample analysis.

Is it just a huge coincidence that the Mayans calender ended on a day when the planets are to align perfectly for the first time in thousands of years when they were wiped out many centuries ago........

There are some very good documentaries on this on Youtube from the History channel with NASA spokes people talking about it etc and by no means does it mean the world will end etc etc but it is worth looking into with an open mind not a sceptical one and you may just be surprised as to what may happen and no one expert can truly say that this aligning of the planets will not have an effect on the planet as it rarely happens.

im on the the world isnt gonna end side.

at least if im right ill be able to gloat about it, unlike those who are believers.

Yeah everything i've read about Yellowstone is pretty scary. We're just walking on this big ****ing timebomb

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is it all or nothing with Yellowstone or could it erupt but not do nearly as much damage as expected?

If anyone can point me to a good documentary on this Volcano I'd love to learn more.

I am not scared for the end of the world because I'm a christian. Anyway, as DB said, this is just the next date people can predict the end of the world, 2000 was the one before. After 2012 people will find another date. There is no way I believe as a Christian to physically guess the end of the world.
No, no don't listen to me, listen to Stephen Hawking who is apparently the smartest man in the world and thinks he knows when the world will end.
Although I don't think the world as we know has much more years left (Jesus said the world will burn, GLOBAL WARMING people :D) and it may end in 2012, it could end before you finish reading this post, it could end in a billion years but I believe not with any relation to the Mayan calendar.

My 2 cents

Polar shift is something that has been talked about and apparently happens every million years or so. Word on the street is we are due for one but it doesn't happen straight away but over a few thousand years.

The Planet X theory is just a load of crap that someone came up with but has no truth.

I doubt Earth is gong anywhere any time soon.

There is a pretty good doco/semi telemovie floating around that gives some idea what will happen. Most of the damage comes later with nuclear winter scenarios affecting the entire planet.

The end result - we go back to a simpler time but we go on living.

I don't beleive in that.
The only cosmic occurance that I'd be worried about, is that with the Sun getting larger, and gaining a greater gravitational pull, the Earth will be dragged closer to the sun, and the Earth becomes too hot for most forms of life.

Nothing will happen in 2012, there were greater odds of the millenium bug ****ing up our technology than of anything (majorly*) bad happening in 2012

*there will be LOTS of idiots on the day commit suicide, or do something dangerous causing a loss of life, because they're stupid enough to beleive that something will actually happen, and they're thinking they're going out on a high, when in fact, they're just ****ing them selves up

This is a great doco on Yellowstone that covers everything. It is only part 1 of a series of 5 videos but well worth the look. Here is the direct link and the other series are on the right hand side of this Video.

Each to their own DB and wether or not we actually do have a Polar Shift in 2012 remains to be seen.

Regarding the Sun getting larger this is the first i have heard of that and it is mainly Solar flares that are being talked about and if the earth receives a big enough one it could have some damaging effects especially with the amount of new technology we have today and its force could quite easily knock out power grids and telecommunications on a global scale.

It's my own theory. Take out of that as you will :o

People like you make me sick. Sorry but it makes me rage that you can say I don't believe X because I'm this religion. Yet if I was to say something that is based on no evidence the same people would laugh it off.

As i said it was news to me!! You actually had me googling it to!

Should of known. :p

lol!! :D

they do however believe a man made an arc big enough to save the millions of species of life on earth

Lol. I have read every post in this thread and don't "laugh them off" because I believe differently. I didn't say in my post I am right everyone else is wrong, I actually said if you'll re read my post
I believe
as a Christian you can't possibly predict the end if the world. So before attacking me in a somewhat hypocritical post, just take it on the chin If my beliefs offend you.:thumbsu::)
