How exciting is our first home game under lights going to be ...

I so wish I could be there for that! I think the atmosphere will we great, even considering GCS away support will be non-existent.

I suspect that GCS will actually give us a bit of a game. Certainly need our players to be focussed on getting the job done.

I would agree, but I was more talking the suggestion above that the Hawks would have a GF hang-over as well as "the curse" to hamper them.

I think they will come out absolutely fired-up, like we did in 2009.

Also, we have been beating the Hawks by ever decreasing margins, and I don't think it's possible to cut it any finer than we did last time around!

I'd say they come out fired up against Hawthorn every time and the games are close because Hawthorn is a good team, because of the rivalry and because the players who took part in the 2008 grand final will not accept anything else. If they have a hangover, they have a hangover and we should belt them, but we certainly shouldn't be expecting anything other than them hitting us with everything, to finally get that monkey off the back. The games ebb and flow because it's two good sides giving each other their best shot, time and again. I wish Hawthorn was a crap team, but I think we can all agree that isn't the case. I stand by my previous point: if any players go out on the ground complacent, in a Round 1 game in front of 75,000+, against our fiercest opponent and the probable premiership favourite at the time the ball is bounced, they don't deserve to be wearing the guernsey. I can accept a loss, but I can't accept not having a crack in those circumstances.

can't wait!
night time footy at Kardinia would have been epic during the 90's & early noughties and Geelong would be one of only a few teams over the past decades who would not be all that used to playing night time footy as we have usually played nothing but Saturday arvo's and Sunday midday matches.

Not even sure the team in the 80's played a bloody night game at all
Except for those pre season Panasonic cup matches.

Would have been even better if it was 1 point.

I love how almost every single time we play Hawthorn, we're the team that changes things up while they play the same routine each and every time.
Was only this year they'd try it without Buddy and it nearly worked for em :p
Come rd1 2013, we again have completely different side with all new match-ups for them to dwell over while I fully expect the team we faced in rd19 to be almost identical (minus Young).

Coincidental?
It most likely is as injuries, suspensions and changing of personnel play a part but a lot of credit needs to be given to the coaching staff for constantly shuffling things around and making us a different proposition each time :thumbsu:

Yerp, give em a good ol' fashioned belting so they can start 2013 with a whimper. How demoralising would that be for the Dawks!

Clarksons Hawks were on a mission this year, their loss in the prelim to the Pies 2011 motivated them like we were in 2009,they went flat stick from the first bounce of the season, the aim was to blow the competition out of the water early and cruise to the finals.I reckon they ran out of steam.
I quite frankly can't see this tactic being used again this year by Clarko and risk blowing his older players up pre finals.
They will of cause get up for us rd1 but overall I expect a more circumspect start by the Hawks.
Early crack at the tray of Sausages Cats by 4 goals.

Think we may have played some night games in Sydney and Brisbane against the Swans and the then-Bears respectively during the late 80's.
Whilst I can't say at all I don't love the thought of night games at Kardinia Park, I'm going to miss grabbing lunch in town before going on a midday stroll with mates down Moorabool Street to the footy and catching the second half of the reserves, followed by dinner and beers at a nearby pub after the game.

As opposed to not having a crack in the 1st half of a final?

We were an absolute disgrace that night. A final we talk about all year and then be complacent from the start is unforgivable. I love beating Hawthorn but I would much prefer a win in a final.

Totally agree to not be switched on in a final is embarrassing and pathetic. Seriously contemplate them looking at there motivation systems, if you can't be motivated for a final then why the F play?

you just turned an exciting prospect into a bleak reality check :(

Even still, nightclubs may be the next best option if pubs close too soon...although the music they pump out makes it near impossible to have a decent convo at all, until you beat the smokies queue.

No arguments here; they're not mutually exclusive. Like I said, the numerous atrocious starts from last season should be fresh in the players' minds and serve as motivation for the team to fix it in 2013 and produce four quarter performances on a consistent basis.

produce four quarter performances on a consistent basis.

maybe we didn't quite have the numbers available to play from start to finish at a finals-like pace?
Having a full list (hopefully) 2013 and much better depth for the first time in a couple of seasons, may mean the rotations are more frequent throughout the season and allows us to play harder for much longer which is bad news for the opposition

What makes you guys think we won't play any Sat afternoon games at K Park in 2013? Even with the lights you'd still expect we'll get at least 1/2, maybe even 3 or more.

From a selfish pov would love to see some Friday night games in 2013 at KP. 10 min walk to the Barwon Club after work, pot + parmi, followed by a Cats game to kick off the weekend. :)

Brian Cook has done an interview on the GFC website and confirms that Geelong's fixture in 2013 will include:

- Back to back "home" games at Etihad Stadium in rounds 2 and 3 - North Melbourne and Carlton are the opponents. Round 2 is a 1.10pm Sunday game and the round 3 game is the following Saturday
- 6 interstate games
- first night game at Simonds Stadium in round 10 vs the Gold Coast on a Saturday night

Looks like the Melbourne games are once again split 2/2 between ES and the MCG!

Also confirms that from 2014 onwards - 8 home games each year at Simonds Stadium!

Why on earth would we have a home game at Etihad against Norf? Wouldn't it make sense if it were their home game, or failing that, our home game later on in the season at Kardinia Park?

What a bizarre decision by the AFL to schedule us a home game against North at the phone dome. Port- are you planning on using your bay covers in Round 2? We'll be lucky if the joint's half full!

Not surprised at everything else there, prepare for a rubbish FIXture yet again guys.

At least it is a 1:10pm game as opposed to 4:40pm. Twilight games just don't appeal to our supporter base.

I just can't understand why we'd waste a home game at the dome on a team with one of the smallest supporter bases in the AFL.

Although if it means we get a high-drawing team or even a mid-sized club at K Park instead then I'm happy.
