Some names to ponder who I reckon are squad worthy or not too far away -

Ibbotson, Douglas, Wingard, Michael Johnson, Roughead, Ziebell, Cunnington, Mundy, Goddard, Dempsey, Motlop, Christensen, Montagna

Some who I think are a little over-appreciated on here based on 2013 -

Pendlebury, Kennedy (WCE), Rockliff, Gibson, J Selwood, Carlile, Birchall, Cox.

What? Why?

He's played six games (for six wins) and been phenomenal in almost all of them. If he'd played one more game and been KO'd in the first minute, without registering a stat, he'd be a no-brainer. He would be the first picked from Geelong (well, him or Stokes) in my opinion. I'm not one of those people that thinks that 10 Geelong players need to get him, but for me Johnson is in, Stokes and Taylor are probably in and everyone else is very iffy at the moment (Enright's a possible; everyone else is playing catch up at this stage).

A few more games like he has been playing and he'd be a lock for me.

Glass is the only Eagle in contention at this stage of the season, possibly with the exception of Kennedy. Is in career best form too imo.
Mackenzie has been better than Glass and definitely deserves to be in the AA team to date.

I guess my point is if he'd had two additional sub-par games (say a combined 30 touches and one goal), he'd be in every side. I just don't think it's that important to have additional mediocre games. He'd almost certainly be in double figures in the Brownlow (sixth in the betting on Sportsbet).

To be honest, I'd say any other Geelong player could be argued out of the side at this stage. But Johnson has to be in.

A few of these names look like they're based on choices from a month ago. I don't think Selwood or Birchall would be anywhere near AA at this stage, after their recent form. Can't see Carlile being close either...he's had a very ordinary month.

Edit: Oh...Carlisle! Yeah, he's definitely in the mix for the full back spot. He's taken on all comers and rarely had his colours lowered to date. Jack Riewoldt is the latest to have minimal influence in a game against Essendon (joining Hawkins, Pavlich, T.Walker, Cloke...). It's no fluke.

Way to soon to include Stevie J. Not sure if Walkeor Rockliff would be in either.

Michael Johnson has been in outstanding form and should be included as has Paul Duffield.

Hanley does not belong in the centre.

Walters or Thomas ahead of Garlett.

I would put Minson ahead of Cox in the ruck.

Mate we're not going to have 5 AA selections.

Yeah mate sorry I spelt Carlisle wrong. I reckon he's been good and consistent but have liked other defenders better.

Nice team i like all the selections, Mitchell in the midfield is off as he has not been playing there fulltime this year as you can see in him being tied 66th in clearances and 10 contested possessions a game, off the wing would be a more fitting place. Douglas is a great call though.

I tend to agree.

McPharlin is going making himself a lock.

Walter was, too, but now he will to have come back strongly to still be a chance. Thomas kicked so many goals, the Carlton boys doing well from what I heart and there is still a chance of a ruck/tall/midfielder taking the second FP spot...

With our other backs thrown in here, they do well as a unit, but nobody stands out to much. When you pick one two others would have to be in the 40 squad at least.

Same when you think about our mids, but probably on a lower level with even more high profile others fighting for spots...

Only an unlikely top 2 spot could help players sneaking in...

Mainly watched Eagles games so can only comment accordingly. Just the fact Kennedy is leading the Coleman SHOULD mean he would be in the current team. He also does a bit of work up the ground.

Other than that, Glass has been good and can't be too far away and maybe in a month or so we can look at Nic Nat as a possibility. Other than that no other eagle has been consistent enough.

I know alot of posters will probably be like who? or what? but Ben Stratton has been in fantastic form and is our most underrated player in the team. Rarely ever beaten this year and has added an offensive side to his game. Birchall started strongly, Gibbo has been very solid too but I would argue Stratton is ahead of these 2 or chances at AA atm.

Jamison would be my full back. Only had his colours lowered once, by Tom Hawkins. Has kept J.Riewoldt, Cloke and Kennedy goalless. Curbed N.riewoldt's influence after he towelled up Henderson early. Beat Brown on the weekend. Only McPharlin has conceded less goals this season.

Obviously the possible team changes from week to week based on performance. Reading through I have seen a few suggestions for McEvoy as the ruckman. I trust that after round 9 that idea is dead.

Important criteria for ruckmen is to actually ruck and McEvoy is shown wanting. Also do not understand anyone selecting Cox, who has been beaten often this year. The appearance of Naitanui has made a big difference to West Coast.

He flew under the radar a bit this season. I knew he was kicking goals but was pretty surprised when he topped the Coleman on Sunday afternoon.
His defensive pressure and contested work is excellent as well. The fact that he has more than one string to his bow should sit in his favour.

NN is definitely building fast, but doesn't have the number of games yet to be in consideration. To date Minson followed by Pyke are probably the best candidates, though Goldstein and Cox have been having a steady impact. However I expect by seasons end things could look very different.

Whilst Glass has been excellent, the WC player that I actually think has flown under the radar is Hurn. He is having an absolutely excellent season.

Flew under the radar??! We get about 15 replays of every shot he takes at goal, because apparently the football public is still fascinated by the goalkicking routine that he has been using for...what...three years?

Having said that, he'd be a more than worthy selection.

Some thoughts on Wingard?

I'm not seeing him in many sides but to me he looks a perfect fit on the flank. After a very good start he hasn't gone downhill with the rest (Boak, Cornes, Hartlett, Westhoff) and has been head and shoulders above anyone else in that side for a month.

I have him ranked as the 14th best performed player in the AFL this season and number 2 for forwards.

Am I really that far off or are people just not seeing much of him?

Wouldnt see any issue if they chose Wingard.

None of the media seem to have picked up on it, and noone wants to say it i suppose....but it hasnt exactly been a season highlighted by great individual performances so far. Usually by now there are at least 5-8 standouts from a 22 and i cant even see more than 3or4 obvious picks. Usually at least 3or4 midfielders alone that most would think of as walk up starters, and i cant even find that.

Lots have had 2-3 great games and maybe another 1 or 2 v good games...but we are seeing plenty who have had great starts then just fallen away...or been pretty damn ordinary since.

Also, the top sides are winning as a team without in form name players starring week to week...apart from a few exceptions it has been hot and cold in terms of name players. There are teams 8-1 and 7-2 and its tough to pick more than 1 or 2 from any of them...bit unusual in that regard.

Its reflected in the way you rarely hear anyone in the media currently referring to more than one or two guys being "in AA form"...they're usually foaming at the gob over plenty by now with the halfway mark approaching. They tend to only stick their necks out when form is obvious OR someone else says it and they just hop onboard.

I cant even be confident about choosing beyond 2 mids (Gablett and Watson)...and i doubt any reasonable fan would say blokes like Mitchell, Pendlebury etc are in great form. Saying something when guys in average form are likely AA selections. Seems more like a search for consistency right now rather than the outstanding.

It'll sort itself out and become easier to pick far more standouts soon. Great that so many new names have a chance to grab their first AA tho...wide open.

Harsh on Boak. Has been his most consistent year.
