Broughton playing back is good for dream team, his first seasons were as a back. It's just those few games where he was pushed into the middle and scored 130 that makes his defender scores look average. I think he will be good for 90 points a game.

Yeh hes a tough one to call, i think many people still see him with ability to even avg up close to 100. Although he has shown he can score under 70 comfortably early in the year and also when playing deep back very defensively. I agree with you though his "playing back equating to shit scores, gets over played and isnt really that true".

I just think he is moving from a high scoring fremantle outfit to a poor scoring GC outfit that is much worse in now ability.

Guys like Harbrow, Bock, C.Brown have hardly improved or kept around their mark moving to GC, they have all gone backwards by a considerable margin.

And yet Ablett has progressed in his DT scoring ability and Broughton could become a player that others 'look for'. I see GC having a much bigger impact in 2013 but I am not selecting Broughton because it is likely that be will still be given shutdown roles at various times during the year.

Not sure why but Lyon obviously hated him. Had low TOG in defence but still played well, then gets moved to defensive fwd role which killed him for DT and destroyed his confidence as a player.

He's a really tough call DT wise because he's so versatile. The reason he gets so much discussion is his high ceiling as an inside mid, a role he plays really well. The issue is his other most effective role is lockdown defender. Can also play running defender well but with Harbrow and co at GC that seems unlikely. I guess the one advantage this year with Broughts is if you pull the wrong rein early 30 trades means the horse hasn't totally bolted

Has Ablett really improved his scoring or are there just more points (ie: i think his percentage of points from a game would still be the same if not worse than what it was at Geelong). I mean we now have Dane Swan scoring close to 135 each week. Over the past 5 or so years points are getting greater and greater each year.

Last year I didn't have one Dees player from memory, but for the first time in a while I think there could be some value with players like Viney, Pedersen, Terlich, and Matt Jones.[/q

josh tynan? grimes?

Tynan or taggert could be good options if named round 1

I didn't want to name them all, but yes, we have a number of options worth considering this year, which is at odds with recent history.

I've been to 9 training sessions prior to Xmas and Tynan was in the rehab group for just about every one, but I believe he's joined the main group. Taggert has been ear-marked as a mid and I believe the club will give him every opportunity, but I have my suspicions as to whether he's best 22. There's little doubt that Toumpas and Viney automatically push ahead of him and M. Jones has impressed since he's been at the cub.

They're worth keeping an eye on and may squeeze the odd game from the bench, but without injuries I don't see either has having great JS, or getting many games. Tynan has played forward and back and will need to find a permanent position. There's no room in the forward-line and he'll be competing with Terlich, Dunn and Strauss for a vacant HBF role.

I see better options elsewhere.

Yep your right, right now looks like better options elsewhere outside of Viney of those players listed but they are among a large group of rookies to keep an eye on. Clisby could be another with an LTI or promotion. Ive seen Terlich in a few best 22 sides on the dees board i think one of him or Toumpas will play just about every week.

He could be. But injuries may be catching up with him. Is he guaranteed best 22 anyomre at the West Coast?

Yeh few questions marks over him, too many for me. Age, scoring ability, job security you name it plus hes in an area where there is plenty of good gets to be had.

Is Atley a back i really dont see Atley being a good DT scorer for some time, just dont see him as a high possession player, high tackler ect

Gaffs an interesting one not sure what hes priced at, he certainly could be a keeper with the now 8 backs. I think he could attract the tag next year though. Either him or Shuey should improve, dont like seeing shuey smoke in off season though.

Atley's numbers are on the upswing and if he gets midfield time he could average 70-85 next year. Will obviously watch his progress through pre-season but I think he is rated very highly on the North board.

Gaff to me looks a super player and could be one to have a third year break out year. Whether he can handle the tag will be a big issue. But given the depth in the West Coast midfield, is he likely to cop the tag most weeks?

Even if Atley averages 85 he is not a good pick for the $$$$ you'll need to spend IMHO - could get the same points value from a rookie

Youd want much more than 70-80 odd from Atley and yes North Melbourne on this forum have the most delusional posters and rate every player they have as a superstar. Atley aint no ball magnet and wont be for some time.

I think Gaff and Shuey will share the tag, Kerr no longer has that impact and his kicking is horrific these days, Priddis is an inside ball winner and tackler that is left alone. Scooter may get more attention although he hardly has massive impacts. I saw a bit late last year in the first 2 names starting to get tagged much more, for me Gaff is too much like S.Hill easily tagged so he tends to get the attention, wingman traditionally really suffer with tags. Gaff also had huge numbers last year and only avg 86~ from memory, his tackling needs to improve drastically to be a good scorer. Hes not a bad option i just think he will get tagged plenty next year because hes so vunerable.

Atley as a defender is certainly one to consider. Thought he was only a mid, not sure what hes priced at, still dont see him as a dream teamer just yet.

Daisy Thomas remains an interesting pick for me i know when he avg 103 i still thought he had upside on that average. His year was better than people gave him credit for, he impacted some big games and had some big scores unfortunately his inconsistency in scoring and games was the thing that came to mind with the footy public. Hes still in a moon boot, but i can see him avg 105 if in the right midfield role. Clubs seemed to want to target Beams with the tag, maybe this can free him up, or does he get the tag playing in the middle?

Atley at 311 is rather cheap i think

Just looked at his season to see if he really improved as the year went on or when he changed roles. Didnt show that through his scoring and something i noticed which backs up my "not really a DTer" is his second highest score was just 74 for the year.

In one game he had 25 posses and only scored 62

Will Thomas get the same role he had back in 2011 with the likes of Beams and Sidebottom stepping up last year in the midfield?
