Youd want much more than 70-80 odd from Atley and yes North Melbourne on this forum have the most delusional posters and rate every player they have as a superstar. Atley aint no ball magnet and wont be for some time.

Atley has the makings of a very, very good player. Problem is, in the same mould as Varcoe / Dempsey, he's a real run and carry player. Receives handball, breaks the lines, long kick. Not great for DT

Very well said he doesnt look a player whos going take plenty of marks or lay plenty of tackles similar to those you mentioned they are good comparison in this sense. Although Dempsey did avg about 80 this year and he was one had considered strongly before last season and he also had an injury or two early that impacted him.

With Bock i guess no one will pick him if he isnt named round 1 but if he is than im sure plenty will get on board.

Jeremy Laidler priced at 45 (230k) based on his 4 games last year. He averaged 66 in 2011 from 16 games though.

what happened to him this year that caused him to only play 4 games?
i picked him in 2011 and he was pretty good for me.

Had a horrid run. Dislocated his left kneecap THREE times in 4 months. Is in Carltons best 21 though and an onfield leader, so JS is excellent. If Carlton play a more DT friendly game under MM (which I think they will) I reckon Laidler could average 70+ playing 3rd tall... if the kneecap stays in that is. Worth a risk at 235k

Guys like Laidler and Morris depend on 2 things.

1. Solid pre season coming off terrible injury run
2. How many rookies stand up

If rookie priced players such as Goodes, Docherty, Pittard, Staker or Stevenson look good there's probably not enough room for mid priced players with low ceilings in the backs

If Laidler had been discounted and was priced somewhere near guys like Pittard and Staker I would've seriously considered him, but I think 235k is too much to pay for him.

True ...Bower was priced @ 128k under the same cicumstance last year..go figure. But fit Laidler is worth 65-70. Don't know why people are jumping on Staker even at his price, have you seen his DT record? I'd rather take a risk with a first year rookie getting a game than pay 130k for Staker. Pittard has done sweet **** all himself in DT as well. I just thought that if Laids gets off to a good start, could upgrade him to a slow starting premo after the first 5-6 rounds....

Since he's been at Brisbane, he's been better than Laidler. 73 ppg in an uninterrupted year and 57 ppg in an interrupted year, as opposed to Laidler's 66 ppg in an uninterruped year and 45 ppg in an interrupted year. Plus he's significantly cheaper, plus he's a B/F so he can be rotated with someone like Broughton. No-brainer IMO.

Laidler had an interrrupted year when he averaged 66..but I get your point. How old is Staker anyway?

Where have Carlton been ranked for DT points in the past 2 years?

Ok here's one that I am yet to see mentioned in any discussion or in any early teams I've seen on the DT forums so far.

Adam Goodes (Bret Goodes' older brother)
Priced @ 82 average (424k)

Injury affected for most of last year saw a huge slide from his regular 99-95-99 season averages of the previous 3 seasons. Is apparently in tip top shape this pre-season and although he is one of the oldest players in the comp, when fully fit is still one of the best athletes in the AFL. Normally I wouldn't even consider anyone over 32 as their DT scores generally do drop off as they get older, but in Goodes' case I see last year as an anomaly rather than the inevitable decline of a DT champion.

Been seeing Sylvia's name popping up in a lot of peoples 2013 teams as a 'top end mid-pricer' @ F5 but is only 30k less than Goodes but nowhere near the DT player Goodes has been over his career. I realise he's younger, but still...

So my question for the DT's in the know, is Adam Goodes finished as a DT force or does he have another 95+ season in him?

I've seen Atley mentioned in multiple threads - please just stop it.

Not a DTer, playing in a team that is more likely to go down than up, priced in a range where he'd really need to be pushing 90avg to be worthwhile.

Nothing about him makes him a good buy.
Please move on.

The only people that rate Atley are delusional Norf flogs. Not that I will pick him, but for the same price (311k) I'd take Yarran instead.

Don't think I'll be going near Goodes myself at this stage. Wouldn't he still be recovering from the knee injury he got in the grand final?

He's a known slow starter and even when his form picks up, there's no knowing whether the inclusion of Tippett into the forward line will affect Goodes at all who will likely be playing as another KP forward.

What sort of price are we looking at for Breust?
Sorry for not answering the question, but since you guys have no DT thread what do you think Breust's upside is? IIRC he's injured? 3rd year breakout probably won't happen with 2012 being a great year for LB, but midfield time should lift his average, perhaps a 75-25 split between fwd/mid?

Don't know...where would one even find that stat?
Fantasy freako from memory Carlton in 2011 were a really top DT side, not sure about 2012.

Adam Goodes?
I think a really good year from him would get you an 85 avg, i just continue to see him falling away or maintaining at the very best.

Breust is priced at 75. I guess the reason hes being talked about a lot is because of the way he finished the year and looked as a play on the field or tv, looked really good and to be improving. Along with that more midfield time with the hawks midfield lacking pace and flair and losing Young on a wing, there depth has really started to struggle in this area. Also i think he scored 84,84 and 92 in his 3 final appearances against good oppo and without really doing that much i think he got mid teen disposals in all games.

I cant quite fit him in at the moment, i wish we still had to pick 9 forwards this year.

No Injury for Breust. I'm not sure he'll get too much time up the field. I hope he does but I can see him mainly being a forward again. You're 75-25 split wouldn't be far off.

With both WhiteX and Young missing from the team, i can easily see Breust and Savage filling those roles. Both are exciting and quick young players that hawks need to seriously inject into their midfield which is a tad on the slow side. Can also see Suckling pushing up the ground more to counter for Young's loss.

Will be watching Breust and especially Savage (so many games as sub) very closely come NAB. Are a tad expensive for my liking as a midpricer, but if they put up good numbers in the NAB and with 8 mids, will be tempting to say the least.
