Thoughts on Patton as a bargain fwd option?

key power fwd in a team that wont win 5 games, he cannot pinch hit in the ruck - far better options available

Patton is in my lineup. Sheedy said he was is an absolute beast at training and will make up for lost time with his injury plagued 2012 seasons. Get on him, at that price how can you not?

Patton is a key forward
GWS will continue to get smashed
didn't score above 60 last year - even if he improves he won't score more than 70 average... AT BEST

and that 70 average would be 100 one week and 40 the next due to him being a power forward

not worth it imo

In a field bereft of Rookies with JS an average of 70 might just be enough of a cash cow to earn some coin for an upgrade.

I don't think I'll lock in any rookies until rd 1 and will trade for the best ones on the bubble anyway.

Didn't Moribito do his knee in recently ? 4 months out i would think. start of June for a possible return at the earliest.

He did and would be a late season option at best, he has to get strength back in the knee and then prove it at WAFL level then find a spot in Freo's best 22

Not an obvious bargain, but one of those possible hindsight bargains.

Todd Goldstein.

In his best year, 2011, he averaged 99.4. This was an improvement of 25ish points on 2010, which was a 25ish point improvement on 2009. So 2012 was the first year he didn't improve on his average by a lot. I'd think 2011 would be his peak average, give or take a couple of points.

His 2012 had two main low points. The first 4 rounds, where he was attempting to get used to sharing the ruck around with McIntosh, and the last two games, where he was recovering from gastro.
In those 6 games, he averaged just 50

Take out those 6 games, and his average (1282 points from 14 games) is 91.6. This puts him around the price of Jarryd Roughead, @ $470k.

So if you are prepared to believe he can avoid slumps (can't avoid illness, but no HMac in 2013), then it's quite likely he could return to 2011 form in which case he is a massive bargain.

At this stage, I think I am prepared to take the risk, saving 70-90k on players who could average similar.

I can't believe no one is on the Chris Knights bandwagon. Will rotate through HF and midfield.

People are scared of his recent injury woes I suspect.

Another one for me (haven't picked either but could possibly fit one in to my structure). Apologies if it's been done
Travis Varcoe vs Andrew Krakouer

Certainly interested in him however, just how likely do you think he'll be in the best 22? That's my major concern with him.

Easily best 22, why would we recruit a player at his age to play at Coburg? Just my opinion of course.

He would provide great depth and competition for a spot in the side. Richmond recruited quite a few mature aged players over the pre season in Chaplin, Edwards, Knights and Stephenson and it's hard to see all of them slotting into the best 22.

Will be keeping an eye out for how Knights preforms in the pre season, at his best I certainly see him in the Richmond side, just not sure whether he'll ever return to that or not.

Surely Edwards (shane) is ahead of him after last year, the tigers rotate a hard mdifelder forward aswell usually using one od Lids, Cotch or Martin. They then also have King and Nahas who id probably think are prefferable options due to defensive ability and crumbing ability deep forward under the shoes of guys like Vickery and JROO.

NAB will tell us alot about him. Remember Richmonds side is now pretty hard to break into. A forward line of the 6 i named above. A midfield consisting of Foley, Grigg wings. Lids, Cotch and Tuck guts. Newman, Morris, Ellis, Rance another 2 tall backs one being Chaplin and all of a sudden richmond are pretty damn settled. Not to mention guys like Conca, Jackson, Houli ect who can play important roles

Knights will squeeze in somewhere. Wouldnt surprise me if Nahas was overtaken. Knights wasnt recruited for same reasons as Stephenson, Lonergan etc. We were always going to recruit mature agers with our rookie picks to add depth.

Foley is injured so won't play early. Most Tiger fans would hope that Jackson isn't best 22 anymore and a lot also prefer Knights to King/Nahas.

Could've been a nice unique if he had an injury free preseason. What's up with him? Any articles?

Check the Richmond site but I'm pretty sure hes been in rehab all pre - season. Won't play NAB Cup. Very unlikely we will even try to get him up for Round 1.

Yeah I did, couldn't find anything. Fair enough thanks
