My question is whether we persist with Newman or cut the losses and move on. Nothing would surprise me, but given the general theme of rebuild, one suspects he would be let go.

Have you been living under a rock for the last year or have you missed the part where he's been charged with GBH? How about the part where he went home during a WAFL game he was part of at quarter time, or the part where he was told to take the rest of the season off? When you rebuild you keep your talent...

Not exactly an ideal chain of events now is it? Talented, perhaps, however Sampi was a far better player and look how that ended up.
The list management team will seriously look at whether he's worth the effort.
I'm fairly sure I've been following football long enough to understand the concept of a rebuild, thanks. No, but I am just saying what normally happens during rebuilds. You get rid of players without talent not with.

Well then why throw our talent out the door? Yes he has issues, but it's not like his on-field performance was much worse than the 22 that fielded the park for us each week. Not to mention we are a football club, we want talented players. We turned a blind eye to Cuz for so many years why don't we try and help this kid's life and our club.
So if Newman goes to goal, you'd still want him to play football for us afterward? Is this your idea of a re-build?
He would want to be working his arse off in the off season.

If it rehabilitates him, yes.
Did you want Krakouer after he went to gaol? I know I did.
I think in this case it's safe to say no one would snatch him...He would want to be working his arse off in the off season. Also its not like you can randomly delisy and re rookie. 17 other clubs can snatch him.

I didn't.
But only because he was old and the asking price way too high.
you make great points about it not being in his history and I agree. It was a one off. Young kids do stupid things. He worked his arse off after coming back from the off season by all reports. But yes, I think we all hope that he doesn't have "idle hands" for the next few moths.
There is no sign he actually has a problem to rehabilitate from, screwing up (if he did it it is a big screw up) once can simply be just that, a screw up. There isn't anything else that I've read to indicate he has an issue with violence or the drink outside of this alleged incident. He hasn't breached bail which inludes staying away from licensed premises after 11 pm iirc, so he's not out on the turps. Or at least if he is, he's home by the time most others are getting on it.
Also, jail does sweet stuff all in terms of rehabilitation. If anything, the consequences of spending any time there are more significant than just a momentary loss of liberties.
Having said all this, while I understand people wanting to delist him if he gets jail, I don't think that should be used as a threshold in terms of him playing football at AFL level in the futre. Yes I understand we can't keep him on a list if he's in jail, that would be wastful. However if there was away to reinstate him onto the list after serving his time I would not be opposed strictly on the basis that he served time. I suppose what I'm saying is whether someone has served time in prision or not should not be used to determine their suitability to play football. An objective view of the act that puts them in jail is what should be focused on.
An example would be two guys do a burg. One rolls on the other to avoid jail, while putting the other one away. If neither were forced or pressured to do the burg, then is the act of the first guy who avoids jail any better than the one that does time?
^not enough elevation in the choppers to be an accurate reflection on Priddis' kicking.
The issue isn't even that he got charged. The issue is that following that he came back to the club in a shape where he was beaten by Woosh. Upon being sent back to the WAFL he cracked it and left. From a football perspective alone that's enough to raise serious alarm bells, talented or not. Talent, as so many others before Murray Newman have proven, counts for SFA alone.you
