Great strategic tennis by the team...especially Hewitt and Ebden yesterday. Ensuring we won the doubles in 5 yesterday and not in an easy 3 really gave Bernie the advantage today. Istomin was obviously buggered by the 2nd set. This is the kind of smarts that we'll need to get back in the world group. Here's hoping we don't draw Spain!

Yeah i don't think they took it to 5 on purpose.

But anyways good win for Tomic. Interested to see how he goes on the clay this year.

Djokovic injured.
Looked painful.

Either the left ankle, knee or even both might be hurt :(
I wonder if the court could be a factor?
It's being played on the campus of Boise State University in their basketball arena. So perhaps a temporary court might be a factor?

Sure, temporary courts have always been an issue at Davis Cup but if you slide as much as Djokovic does on a hard court, it's going to happen eventually. I didn't see the roll of the ankle, started watching after the first set but he did well in the last sets considering

Novak's injury is quite serious. A Serbian newspaper just reported that Novak started crying when the doctor told him the extent of his injury.

Looks like we will be seeded for the play off draw which makes an enormous difference.

Possible opponents: Brazil, Israel, Netherlands, Poland, Ecuador, Ukraine, Colombia, Great Britain.

GB would be away and Murray is available so that tie would likely come down to the doubles if we drew them.

God knows where the others would be held, can't recall ever playing any of them in recent times.

Colombia and Poland would be tough away on clay, would back us in against any of them at home.

lol, how on earth are we seeded? haven't played a world group tie in years. Yeah, most of those ties we're at least a solid chance. GB would be the only one we would be big dogs. A lot of possible strange away ties though.

Poland in Poland it is.

Janowicz and a good doubles pairing on clay, ouch. And Kubot on clay is no banker either.

Oooh Croatia at home to Great Britain, that will be a great tie.

Matosevic and Hewitt seem to play better against ball bashers like Janowicz don't they?
Also because it's on clay. Playing Tomic against Janowicz on Polish clay courts would be like sending a sheep to a slaughterhouse. Matosevic is a decent clay courter and could at least trouble Janowicz.

They will do the same as against the Uzbeks I reckon.

Tomic v. Kubot, Matosevic v. Janowicz, Hewitt dubs and sub in for Matosevic in the reverse singles if it goes to the decider.

Damn that's not a good draw... Still a crap load of tennis to play till then. See how the results go, maybe Tomic will have a good clay season, ow fit Lleyton will be?...

Janowicz is an interesting character, so should be an exciting tie.
hopefully the Uzbekistan tie was an indication that the Aussies have learnt from stupid selections. I still can't get over the stupidity of that German tie though, yuk.
